I've had to go to my doctor recently for progressive symptoms all in the abdominal area. I realized that the symptoms started around the time I started Shakeology, however I didn't think a drink so healthy could be the cause. I mentioned that to my doctor, though, and she suggested I stop drinking it. I was skeptical, but I did stop. And the symptoms went away. I had persistant (24 hours a day) abdominal cramps that fluctuated in intensity- to the point where I just wanted to keel over. Then after roughly 2 days of being off of Shakeology I feel normal again. I'm still setting up appointments and getting tested for other things as some other symptoms haven't tapered off yet. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue? Are any of Shakeology's contents harmful? I'm just a little worried because I have tried green drinks before and I have never felt this way!

Thanks!

Kayla

I don't think its "harmful", but you have a gastro-sensitivity to some ingredient in Shakeology.

My first thought was maybe it had sugar-alocohol which annoys the stomach in some folks (me for instance)...but I didn't see that under the nutritional label under the Carb section.

Just don't use it...

Yeah, I just had doctor appointment number 2 with a different specialist who said she wouldn't be surprised if all my symptoms were a results of drinking Shakeology. I guess the herbs and whatever else has potential to mess you up. It's unfortunate because I liked the concept, but Shakeology is just not for me!

Thank you emoticon

has someone tried to drink it with water only half of the scoop instead of a full scoop per day, I just started drinking shakeology today n just drank half of the scoop because I was aware this causes gases problems with some people, so at first I'm trying to take it slow until my body gets completely used to it. Have any of you all reported this to Beach Body, this is something serious that they can't ignore to ensure their product, know what I'm saying?

Does anyone know how I can contact Shakeology? I looked on their site and they really don't have contact information. So the doctors thought I had ruptured a cyst and that's what was causing all the pain and problems. After the symptoms went away I figured I'd try shakeology again because I didn't think it could cause a cyst- that it must just be coincidence. Well, I had half a scoop of shakeology for breakfast and that was it. I threw up several hours later and broke out in a rash on my neck and chest. I'm assuming I'm just allergic to something in it and that it shouldn't be a concern to anyone else. It's just strange that I went from having severe pain to throwing up. I was using it every other day for several weeks and never threw up or broke out. It's a shame because I was really looking forward to those healthy drinks!

That's very interesting. I started drinking Shakeology several weeks ago and I started off with a lump in my throat when I swallowed. That went away and then headaches began. Now I have headaches EVERY day, off and on all day. The doctors have done blood work and tested my eyes. Next is an MRI, but, I got to thinking back and remembered it started with drinking the shakeology.
I also wonder if I'm allergic to something in the shakeology. I quit taking it two days ago and will wait and see if the headaches go away. If it is the shakeology, it will be a shame because it has helped me in so many other ways. :/

Post this in the "nutrition" forum, and the Beachbody fitness advisors WILL answer it. They are great at getting back to people. But it is most likely that you have a sensitivity to some ingredient in it. I've been using it since March (my husband too), and we have had no adverse reactions to it. I know MANY others who also drink it daily...again...with no adverse reactions.

However, I did have one friend say that she broke out in hives. She's not sure it's due to the Shakeology, and she's still trying to figure it out. I suggested that she discontinue the Shakeology to see if the hives go away. Not sure if she took my advice yet.

Everyone is different. Some people can't drink milk, so they stay away from it. Some people can't tolerate gluten...again...they avoid it. It just may be that Shakeology may not be for you.

But don't let that stop you from contacting Beachbody on the nutrition forum. They SHOULD be made aware of it!

Yeah, sorry I didn't grab this sooner. This isn't one of my daily forums.

I've sent this to Steve.

I also had stomach issues after starting shakeology. However, I also started a new multivitamin about the same time and I quit taking both about the same time and the pain went away. So at this point it could have been either causing the problem for me. I started taking the mv again without shakeology and haven't had any problems yet, so at this moment, the problem is pointing to Shakeology. That sucks because I liked it.

I started Shakeology in March this year, within the first 2 weeks of using it I lost 1-2 inches and 8 pounds. My nails, face and hair was looking great. Well about 2 months ago (so May/June-ish) I started having tummy issues, like feeling and looking bloated, having bad gas, still haven't lost and weight or inches, feeling a little nauseated. I went to the doctors and got blood and breath tests done, that was almost 2 weeks ago and haven't heard anything back, so I assume everything came out fine. I thought maybe I became lactose intolerant, so I starting taking lactaid pills, the bloating went away but thats about it. So starting today I am going without shakeology for about 2-3 weeks to see how I feel. If anyone has had these symptoms please contact me.

I've taken The shakes for the past five days, and thepast three have been hell. I can't even describe how my stomach feels really... Like a constant stomach cramp that varies in intensity. I really don't want to give them up but I don't know what else could be the cause of this pain. It sits high up in my stomach and there is absolutely nothing that makes it feel better. Not sure what I'm gonna do next...

What are you mixing the shake with? I tried soy milk a few years ago and that gave me stomach cramps just like you're describing.

I suffer from a GI disorder and recently had a flair up, well I tried Shakeology for the first time today. It was the first day that I did not experience any pain, cramping, rumbling or bloating. That is until I ate solid food. Of course I will continue to monitor my system, but today was a great day.

Every body is different, I used Greenberry mixed with water and a few frozen fruits. i wanted to keep it simple.I f all continues to go well I will try juice or almond milk next week.

I took it for several weeks and had some bad GI problems that coincided with taking Shakeology. I figured there would be a "cleansing" phase so I just waited for my symptoms to go away, but they continued. Gas, bloating, pain, and other more graphic problems. I finally said "enough" and quit taking it. Within two or three days my symptoms went away. I haven't taken it since and have not had a problem since.

I really like the Beachbody products and have been a customer for years (on my 5th round of P90X now), but this wasn't for me. Glad I'm not alone.

I've noticed some gastrointestinal discomfort as well as a little diarrhea when I use Shakeology. I'm wondering if Beachbody has any current research on this.

Has Beachbody been able to identify what causes this issue in so many people? My hope is that they can identify it and create a different formula for those that seem to be having this issue. I tried to do the shakes for several weeks and was having horrible gas that was unacceptable in the work place. I even tried it along with gas pills, probiotics, etc. Nothing helped. Beachbody, any chance you'll make a different formula for those that experience this issue? I'll gladly be a test case!

I've been researching the ingredients in shakeology. There are a lot of them so it's taking time. I'm about halfway through. There doesn't appear to be anything seriously negative and there are many things that I was happily surprised about when I learned more about them. So far from what I can tell, it is a legitimate product with a lot of good stuff in it. The downside is that many of the ingredients can cause issues for people with specific conditions and can negatively interact with other things.

As good as it might be, there's nothing out there that works for everyone, and shakeology isn't any different. There are things in it that can cause the issues described in this thread. The majority of people using it may never have an issue but that isn't much comfort if you are one of the few having problems.

If you are having serious issues, the best thing to do is consult your doctor and stop using the product. If the issues aren't serious, cutting down how much you use to see if your body will get used to it is an option. If you are on medications or stacking other supplements, it might be an interaction thing.

I plan to keep the shakeology truth thread up to date with my findings but I'm attaching what I've found so far for those here who are interested.
