RE: Protein Levels in Phase 3 of P90X Nutrition Plan
Hello:

I am doing P90X, first time through at week 10. I have been following the nutrition plan, using the portion approach, and eating at level III.

I am curious about the drop off of protein from level II to level III--it goes from 8 portions to 4, which, if my math is correct is a drop of about 100g of protein, plus the protein bar becomes optional.

So, I am still looking to build a little more mass (on resistance days, I stay in the 8-10 rep range), so is this enough protein to support that, or is Phase 3 of P90X not really about mass building?

Thanks,

Omar

This will help you with the Protein Question..
I'm pretty sure the 2nd Phase is about Bulking up, and the thirds just to get used to being fit.. BUT YET AGAIN, I can be wrong so don't listen to me, but the link is 100% Truth, from BeachBody Staff.

There is somewhat of a myth lingering out there about about needing lots of protein to put mass on, when it really doesn't make a difference. Protein is the building block for muscle yes, but your body can only build so much of it. Carbohydrates are more important to building muscle, from what I have learned because they provide the energy your body needs to build the muscle. The building blocks(protein) are there. If you do some research about putting on mass, you will find that most advice given is to eat alot, most of it being carbs, like phase III. I've done periods of mass gain, and I used phase III nutrition, and I was able to put on weight. I was only intaking about 150g of protein a day, but almost 450g of carbs per day. It will give you the energy to explode through your workouts, and the energy for your body to repair your muscles.

Basically, if you want to gain mass, you should very much so use phase 3 nutrition, and eat at a surplus. I only weigh 155, but I was eating 3000 calories a day when I wanted to put on mass. And I did. I gained about 5 lbs in a month.

And, phase 3 is way more fun... mmmm carbs!
