Just hit week 4 of p90x classic
And now I have a bout of lovely influenza, which is going to tank me for about a week. It really irks me that I'm sick as I was really getting into it and the wife was joining in when she could. Should I just pick up where I left off when my energy levels are back up, or continue on as if I've missed no sessions?

toecutter,

I'm sorry to hear that you've fallen ill. I just recently recovered from a stomach bug which COMPLETELY wiped me out for a few days. Here's what I did:

I felt fine on Tuesday 11/10/09; ate and worked out normally. I was in my last week of round 1 (i.e., a recovery week). Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, I fell victim to a stomach bug. I lost everything I ate Tuesday night, couldn't eat Wednesday (literally ate about 250 calories), and had to force myself to sit up in bed. Obviously, no workout. No workout Thursday either, although I could eat (a little) and could stand without dizziness. Friday I returned to work (as a teacher) but did not do any workout. I barely had the energy to make it through the school day. Saturday I did half of the stretch video, Sunday I did the whole stretch video. I then used the following week as a recovery week, but swapped out Cardio X (which I don't find that difficult) for Core Syn (which I do find difficult). I found that it took me more than a week to REALLY feel myself again, both in terms of my energy level and my ability to eat enough for workouts.

Does this sound similar to your situation?

If I were you, I would make your first week back a recovery week. Being in week 4, that's where you were anyway, right? Use that week to let your body get back to normal, then continue with week 5. My bet is that your body needs a week like that before you really "bring it" again. If you tried to jump right in to week 5, you probably wouldn't be able to do it as well as you like.

I hope this helps and gives you ideas of what you could do. Ultimately, you are the one who knows your body best.

Good luck!

Julie

Julie,

Thanks so much for the information. It makes sense to start with the recovery week, recovering in health and fitness essentially. The bug has just about run its course and I can't wait to get back at it.

Cheers!

Jay
