The Breakfast/Workout Question
The Breakfast/Workout Question
11/22/09 10:46 AM
I know this ? has been beaten into the ground but I am asking because I will be starting the P90X and want to do this 101% not 99%.

My question is on Early morning workouts do you eat a little first then a full breakfast after ?

My confusion is I read somewhere before maybe from the the bbadvice man or someone else and I cant find the thread/s is that it is best to workout on an empty stomach because with food in there the body will be digesting what you ate instead of going towards you're muscles.

I have also read that having a little something like a half a banana with a lil PB will "wake you're body up" after it just spent 8 hrs sleepin and will prevent Eating at you're muscles for energy.I want it to use my fat LOL

So here is what I have decided to try unless someone has a different idea Idea and I am open to any suggestions.Wake up Have a couple of glasses of water and a small amount of a healthy carb with a lil protein examples...half whole wheat eng muffin with tsp peanut butter......Half of an apple with a low fat string cheese.....a half protein bar.....half of a banana with a tsp of PB.....and a cup of coffee. then 30-45 mins later start the workout.

Sorry if this question is redundant Its just I am fine with the blocks and the phases and michs ladder.I just dont want to get to day 30 and someone says ohhh if you were doing it this way you would have gotten better results.I know I will get good results because I am fully comitted and want to nail down this piece thanks.

Some people can pull off eating like that before a workout, but most can't. You don't really need any protein before the workout it won't really do anything to help you, the english muffin may be okay if it's white and not wheat (idk anything about english muffins)
If i were you I would just go for a banana (or half a banana)

I also meant to add after the workout I will have the recovery drink and a half hr after that the breakfast and I will be in level 3 (I think) I am on the cusp of level 3 and 2 as I am 5'11 205 lbs 44 years old and from my calculations that is level 3 but of I were to get to 199 before this starts that puts me at level 2.I am starting 1/4/2010 as that is when my friends are starting and they wanted me to join them.In the meantime I am now working out 6 days a week to get p90x ready LOL

Stephen -

The banana won't wake you up. If you're having a blood sugar issue, it'll give you the extra boost to get you through, but if you're on a healthy diet -- like the P90x nutrition plan -- you really shouldn't need it. Your glycogen should push you through.

You'll find more details - and several other answers - here in the nutrition FAQ.

BBadvice--Sorry when I said Wake up I was using the term literally I meant waking my actual insides up by giving it a little carb and getting it going. If you think the p90x nutrition plan for all 3 phases is enough then that is good enough for me.I will wake up have a few glasses of water and a cup of coffee and get at it.I was just concerned about my body going after muscle if the stomach was empty while working out.My goal is to gain muscle, lose bodyfat, get ripped and drop a pant size or 2 thanks

If you're eating right, your body won't really start catabolizing muscle after just an hour workout.

Coffee is an excellent idea. In fact, I'm going to grab a glass right now.
