Question - push up pace
Question - push up pace
11/22/09 6:34 PM
Hi all knowledgable folks,

Whats more important when you're just starting out? Doing the pushups at the pace Tony sets and suggests? or slower to make sure you are going deep enough?

I'm talking mainly about the Chest & Back workout, and the opening standard set of pushups. I have been doing it a while, and find that although my reps increase, I can never seem to get to a faster pace and still hold my form and depth.

Am I still getting as good a workout? Or am I missing out on something by not being "explosive"? Or will it all come with time?

(btw, female, 33, 5'6", building strength but racing triathlons too)

thanks,
Cath

There are so many different varieties of PU's offered that all your chest and Tri's will be covered pretty much no matter what.
The key on all the pushup exercises is go to failure.
Speed isn't a big factor but you should be trying to get a full range of motion rep.

cool, thanks for that. I'd like to knock em out a bit faster eventually but will see what happens. Will just focus on form and reps to failure for now.
