5'8 160 21 yrs. Starvation Mode?

So yeah, my coach spence said b/c i'm rite at the barrier to go with the 1800 cals a day. My only question is how the heck do I know if my body is in starvation mode?


I mean I think i'm ranging between 1500-1800 cals a day and I feel amazing. Haven't felt this good in a long time even when i was amazingly sore I still felt great. But could I still be in starvation mode? I'm able to finish the workouts fine and really bring it!...and my body recovers within 15-20 mins after my workout which is when i take my protein shake with a glass of ff milk. My thoughts are if i'm feeling this good thats means i'm doing great but......am I?

I don't think you should go lower than 1800. Because you're body fat is already fairly low, I'd recommend level 2.

If you feel good throughout the workout, why do you think you might be in starvation?

That's what I'm saying! Like I feel great and at the end i'm beat but i recover within 15mins so that means i'm eating enough right. Today is day eight and I haven't lost any weight in the first week....but I don't have much to lose/it's the first week/muscle>fat so I'm a keeeeeeep on trucking.

If you are eating between 1500 / 1800 you could be in starvation mode as each P90X workout burns around 600 calories which give you a net calories intake of 1100 / 1400. Based you your gender, age, height and weight you maintanence calorie intake is about 2100 a day. That you should be eating to maintain your weight. You loose weight with a calorie deficit. You can figure that by adding in the 600 giving you 2700 total calories a day then figuring a deficit from there. Every 3500 calories = 1 lb. So a 500 calorie a day deficit = 1 lb per week weight loss. You never want to go 50% below you top calories so at 2700 you should never have a net calorie of less then 1350. If you are eating 1800 or less a day and buring 600 a day then you are at net 1200 and thus in starvation mode. Eat more and you will start loosing weight. Sounds strange but it's true. Let me know how it goes.
