Insanity + Weight Watchers?
12/7/09 1:35 AM
I have lost weight on Weight Watchers before and considered maybe doing it again, but now that I'm going to be doing Insanity, I'm hearing it may not be good to mix with it. Just wondering what people's opinions are on this.

Also, this is probably a dumb question, but is it okay to do Insanity with no shoes? I have done Tae Bo and Turbo Jam and other dvd workouts bare-footed, but I keep reading about how important it is to have great cross-trainers, which I don't have at this time. I've never been one to spend much money on shoes.. Again, any opinions welcome and appreciated!

Stephanie,

I can't speak to Weight Watchers because I've personally never done it, but I will tell you that doing Insanity on a low-card or low-calorie diet is not a good idea and in the long run, will only hurt you.

I'm in round 2 right now and have made a couple of nutritional errors- and paid for them dearly. You have to eat right to make it through the workouts, bottom line. Following the nutrition guide that came with the program and implementing a deficit is the key. Taking in 1600-1800 calories seems to be the number that works for most women, but you'll have to find wht works for you.

As for shoes- WEAR THEM. You will need arch support on this, trust me- there is a lot of time spent up in the air, but your feet take a pounding and will need the support of shoes.

Best of luck!

Kim

Thank you for your advice! I'll see what I can do. I've always had a hard time finding shoes that fit my feet right because I wear 6 wide, and the better brands don't seem to carry wide sizes.. unless anyone can tell me differently. If you can, PLEASE do so! (:

Stephanie,

I am doing Insanity with the Weight Watchers. I was on WW before I started Insanity and like the structure of tracking online and the accountability of weighing in every week. I am using the Nutrition guide that came with Insanity and just managing my portions with the WW. I make sure I put in my activity points and eat ALL of them every day. This gets you to the same calories that Insanity Nutrition guide recommends, at least pretty close. The workouts give me 6 to 9 extra points a day.

I have to tell you that I did not lose as much weight as I lost % of body fat so I do not rely on what the scale says, I take measurements to track progress. I have lost 3 inches in my waist so far in 5 weeks but only 3 pounds. I am very excited with the results!

I hope this helps!

Lorraine

PS - I also recommend finding some good cross trainers - my feet take a pounding even with my new ones. Have to tried looking online?

I'm 7 weeks into Insanity and haven't worn shoes. I tried to at first but it hurt more to wear them then not. No problems so far but I think I don't have much of an arch. Hope that helps. emoticon

Lorraine,
Thanks for your response! It was exactly what I was looking for when I searched for "insanity and weight watchers" on Google. emoticon I've been doing Insanity for 3 weeks and have only lost 1.5 pounds. I've eaten all my flex points and activity points but I'm wondering if I'm not counting enough activity points and if I need to eat more. I'm going to experiment with it and see what happens.

Thanks again!

New Balance is a brand that comes in wide sizes. I would go to a sporting goods so for a better selection and the sales people there are better than just regular shoe stores. Saucony is a good brand,Brooks, and Asics I know they make shoe in wide.

I am ready to start my third week of Insanity and I am also doing WW. I have had success on WW and I know it works for me. I do eat my Activity Points that I earn each day. I do need the extra calories to get through my workouts.

Good Luck with Insanity.

I don't wear shoes either because my place is mostly carpeted. The only problem is that my right toe hurts sometimes from doing the side to side floor hops cause I tend to land the hardest on it lol

hey guys

i have been doing weight watchers and insanity and i think that if you eat the right foods for your points on weight watchers you get a lot of the healthy foods insanity wants you to eat and im not hungry...with that though, i was just wondering how you all entered in you activities on weight watches. for example i input the recovery video as 33 minutes on moderate and it only gave me 2 points...is this what happened with you all?

i mean i know its just the recovery and maybe its because im just starting out but i was definitely sore!

happy new year to you all, best luck with your resolutions!

Julia

also, i used to be a collegiate gymnast before i got hurt, out of shape, and gained lots of weight haha and we didn't wear shoes in that and im not for these either, im doing fine so far, but am just starting so maybe things will change

The first time I did Insanity, I tried to incorporate Weight Watchers and I just couldn't do it. I was STARVING all the time. I dropped the WW and ate healthier (I basically ate ALL the time), and although I didn't lose any weight at all, my body changed significantly.

I'm back on Weight Watchers, but I'm running 5 to 6 days a week and the weight is coming off. I'm going to incorporate Insanity back into my routine now, but not 6 days a week....

Hi there,

I just finished week 2 of insanity and I am doing weight watchers. I do eat my activity points and have lost 6 pounds in 2 weeks, so its working pretty good right now. Although I am doing weight watchers and counting points I am trying to keep carbs down and only eat really healthy carbs like fruit and whole grain, high fiber grains. Trying to get a lot of protein too. I am using a generic whey protein shake as a recovery drink instead of the "results and recovery" because it is less expensive. Good luck!!

Sarah - How is your WW and Insanity going? Just finished Day 2 of Insanity. I am using the Insanity meal plan and put all the food in my WW tracker. I am like 7 points over my daily allowance. I'm not sure how many activity points I should give myself for the workouts. I want to lose weight as part of this but am thinking I should give the Insanity diet a go. If I put in workout everyday and use those points, I supposed I am going to break even on the points. What do you think?

I think I get 28 points a day.
Thanks,
Elizabeth

I am going over my points every day, and so I am eating all my acitvity points. I use the WW guide and rate the insanity workouts as "moderate". I am also running and spinning though, so I get activity points from there too. You could try rating the workout at the highest number of points for the minutes, or use some of your weekly 49 points if you need extra every day. I am sticking to the WW points guidelines and trying to incorporate things from the insanity guide too. I would decide what you are going to try, and try it for the first two weeks, then if you aren't happy with your weight loss, adjust it. Hope this helps!!

Sarah

PS there is an app for a smartphone, the points plus calculator app, that will also calculate activity points if you don't have the written guide.

Also, you could try switching from points to the "simply filling" style ww, which uses all power foods and no tracking points.
