Shakeology Alternative?
12/17/09 6:06 PM
I know what a lot of people are going to say, but I can't afford a $100 supplement. Just can't do it. I don't spend $4 a day on anything. LOL. I'm just hoping there is something out there close to it that anyone could reccommend...

You can do a lot with fresh fruit, a little yogurt and whey powder and a good blender.

Shakeology has a lot of servings, so it really isnt a $100 a day

I agree with Mike, but for the record, most people have no problems with dropping $4 on a Starbuck's latte every morning -- any they're not getting a fraction of the nutrients.

Throw every fruit and vegetable that they sell in the city, as well as some that are imported from other countries.

Why is everybody so gung ho shakes. I am trying to eat healthy and wish to avoid alternative fuels. I want to eat food not chemicals. I have noticed a number of people asking for alternatives and nobody offering them. Maybe it would hurt their profits. emoticon

Biochem Sports 100% Greens & Whey Protein, available in vanilla or chocolate is similar and tastes good. It has 22 servings in a can, less than 1/2 the price of Shakeology ($43). Has a proprietary blend of greens, vitamins, minerals & protein, 100 cals per serving, 1 g sugar & no artificial colors, sweeteners, etc. Google, "Vitacost" this supplement site sells it for 45% the retail price. This information has no link, but maybe competing w/ BB's products, if they happen to delete it, send me a PM and I'll send the information to you.

Thank you so much Cardiomamma. It's always interesting when you ask for alternatives or suggestions and all people give you are comments. LOL. I will definitely look into Biochem. Thanks a bunch.

I have to say that I'm a funny egg when it comes to taste, textures and smells (as they relate to food). Check out Muscle Milk Light as a whey protein source. The formula is enhanced to help you burn fat, has good fiber and is engineered to preserve muscle and it can be used as a Pre and Post work out drink.

As for the flavors and taste....they have so many it is like going to BaskinRobins 31 flavors only without the guilt. They have a lot of different flavors and they all taste great.

I think you will find you can easily afford this product. Muscle Milk Light mixes with about 10oz of water, no clumps, no weird smell or after taste either. There are clearly other great products out there and I am sure you'll get some great recommendations.

Good Luck,

Lucid

If you're willing to spend all the money on Shakeology you all might want to think out of the box and buy a Vitamix.
You see it in Pro grade kitchens and restaurants all over the world. Don't mistake this thing for a blender. It's a small airplane engine with blades. You throw fruits and vegetables whole into this thing and it atomizes them into juice. Now with a regular juicer you throw the pulp away. But with a Vitamix, it blasts the pulp and fiber into a smooth tasty drink. No big hunks of fruit floating around.
I was skeptical when I bought it.
It's a tool that's completely changed the way I eat,.... for the better.

I take Vega meal replacement drinks from sequel natural, which was out before shakeology and is pretty much the same thing.

scubabob: I've heard some people getting bad reactions to Vega, though. What have you found? And as well taste-wise.

There are no true alternatives to Shakeology. Sure you can find "meal" replacement shakes that are cheaper but if you review the ingredients the difference is obvious. The cost objection is one I have heard (especially from my wife) but if you sit down and do the math it works out to the difference of one meal per day which the average person spends just over $5.00 on. That's over $150 per month for your lunch so even at full price Shakeology is less expensive. Of course if you are just looking for a protein shake or vitamin shake you can go cheaper but then you won't be getting the benefits Shakeology offers and I for one haven't found any supplement that tastes as good and does as much for your health.

On a side note:

Not sure about the comment on "chemicals"...I have read and re-read the label on Shakeology; I don't see any chemicals listed. One reason people are "gung-ho" on Shakeology (not just any old shake) is you can't consume enough regular food to provide the nutrients/phytonutrients your body requires and be as active as a P90X'er, Insanity, etc. without supplementing your diet.

Hey Lucid. I want so bad to use this stuff myself, but I noticed on the label they are using sucralose in it. Maybe if we all get together and bombard them with mail, they will use something else like stevia?

I think the thing is, not everyone spends $5.00 a day on food/lunch in addition to the groceries they purchase weekly when they shop. I for one don't eat out every day or spend $5 a day on food so adding an extra $100 a month to that is more than I and some others can afford. This is why alternatives are being researched. If I could get it, I would but it just isn't in my budget no matter how beneficial it is.

Check out Nature's Plus Fruitein® Revitalizing Green Foods. It isn't exact but IMO it comes close enough.

I started taking shakeology and to keep the cost down I only drink it 5 times a week. I did try a product called Tru-food Vegan made by Now Foods. I did not like the taste too much.

Thanks for the response. I see your point about the cost...not for everyone.

One note: I also gave up every beverage except water and have reduced my supplements down to Shakeology and the Recovery Formula...that definitely helps the cost vs value difference.
