Breaking Down the "Resolution"

What is a resolution? A resolve or determination: to make a firm resolution to do something.

My personal belief is that requires short term and long term goals.

Winning $50,000 for my transformation took many short term goals.

I have always been an all or nothing person which is why I never have done well with New Year’s Resolutions. I would set these unbelievable lofty goals, all starry-eyed like a kitten on crank , ready to conquer everything that had ever held me back!!!

The problem with that thinking was once I failed at any portion of my “Resolution”, I felt as if I had failed “completely”, which always led me down a path of personal destruction, further and further from my ultimate goals. I never broke it down to a level that was achievable.

The New Year brings with it a great opportunity to look over the past year and take pride in what we have done well and get real about the improvements we still need to make.

Your “short-term and long-term” periods may be very different from someone else’s. Maybe my short-term goal is a 24 hour period while yours is a month.

That’s not important. What is important is establishing specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-targeted objectives.

That’s what this thread is about. Helping each other establish and reach our short and long term goals. Your goals may inspire others to take that first step in establishing or re-establishing theirs.

Definitely going to have to go out and start the car for it to run a while before heading out this morning. I dont have to be to work til 10 so maybe the sun will peek out for a bit?

My goals for this work week are pretty simple. Back to clean eating, so its oatmeal for breakfast, snacks packed, chili for lunch and since I will be getting home late, I'll get my dinner in before leaving the office.

Concentrating on sculpting and toning these coming months. Must get my bikini body back before vacation! emoticon Got a bit soft this winter.

Nice to get back to work after the days off. It's a lot easier for me to stay on track when I have a routine!

Had a great time last night at my brothers house. Good company and lots of laughter.

Went to the store this morning to get the frig and pantry stocked. came home to make my sweet potato chips and burnt them inthe oven, Ha! Now am thinking it sure would have been nice if I would have bought more than one potato. emoticon

The sun is shining and there are snow flakes blowing around ... plenty chilly out but somehow helps to have the sun shining.

Lots of goals this year. WIll spend this weekend breaking them down into achievable mini-goals. Love seeing the progress that happens over the "long haul" when the short term goals are met!!!

Hi Audrey! Just received word of your new thread, so thought I would stop by and chime in.

I'm not one that does New Year's Resolution, because I feel like why wait till the New Year to set goals? Just make it happen and incorporate it in your life -- at any time. So I've told myself that and I live by it. emoticon

I have set small, attainable goals for myself, so as not to overwhelm me with the bigger picture. So far, it is working wonders. I hold myself accountable each week, and each week I must check in and compare notes from my previous week. I started doing this in mid-December, and have dropped 7 lbs to boot! emoticon

2010 is definitely going to be a year of change for me, and I can't wait to see what transpires in the process. Thanks for walking with me through this journey!! emoticon

Love ya!!

Monie

Hey Monie! So weird you posted .. I was thinking of you last night. I love the idea of little goals. I know you and I have talked and it is so easy to look too far into the future all of the time and then our focus is off of the hourly and daily mini achievements that get us there.

Thanks for your inspiration. I am blessed to have had you and look forward to see what you achieve in 2010!

Monie .... Basically what I am saying is I can easily "paralyze" myself into doing nothing when I focus only on the long term.

Hi Audrey,

I found you too. Unfortunately, my workouts have been kinda sporatic, however between skiing, dancing and running up and down the stairs at work, I'm still relatively lean and mean. Just need to tighten up the middle section a bit and quit eating all the leftovers from the holiday parties.

I'll try to be back more often.

Shouts out to Monie, Kevin and Lizzie.

Joe
