Finished my first 30days -- lost 9lbs!
Hey all

Just finished my first 30 days and want to give you all an update

1. Lost 9lbs – down to 163 -- I am 5'9"
2. Lost 4% body fat, I am now at 16.7

To even have it hit harder to me, I picked up a 10lbs weight and was amazed that my body was carrying that extra weight and a bit disgusted as well.

No pics, they are uneventful actually, I look the same as day one except that my face looks narrower, which I am not too worried about it. At time I can see my definition when looking at the mirror but when my roommate took the pics I did not see much difference

Energy – my energy levels are up and my mental attitude is better

Food – I survived the holidays, really did not eat much sweets on my vacation or at work when we got food from our clients.

My favorite foods from P90X

Veggie soup – a good easy way to get your veggies for the day and a good snack food.
Pear/Granola Muffin – these rock!
Turkey Meatloaf – wow, simple to make and robust in flavor
Turkey Bacon – fast and easy protein fix for the morning along with a smaller portion of egg whites with spinach

Protein drink – I get the Whey protein from Trader Joes and mix it up with Chocolate Soy milk. I tried it skim milk and the protein powder taste is too much for me.

Dessert – No Pudge Brownies – a great treat – no fat and average calories intake. But make sure you only have one for that day. And they keep most and chewy for a good week or so.

Workouts
I started wit the bands but did not feel fulfilled because I could not keep track on my progression so I am switching to weights for the next 30. And at the tail end of the 30 day segment I felt that my workouts were getting more intense, I was sweating more since I body was getting adjusted and becoming more familiar with the routines.

Yoga is tough and I respect it, it is one of the most hardest segment for me, but it also shows I need to work on my flexibility.

**Pull Ups – I cant do them yet, I can only max 4 reps and cannot finished a video workout with the pull up bars so I am sticking with bands and hope to move up to the bar. Anyone that has advice on this, I would like any. I am thinking that I just need to build up my upper strength.

Mirror – On my vacation I was working out at a hotel gym and took advantage of the wall mirror since I work out by watching the video on my laptop. The mirror really helped my in seeing if my form are right. And it made a big difference.

At the end, I think the diet is a major portion for a beginner to get into swing of things. At the same time, there is a MENTAL portion that I think everyone needs to realize. You got to have the mental attitude to do this and more importantly maintain it as this should be a life changing perspective. And when I look at my progress, lift the 10lb weight that represents what I lost so far, watch the youtube videos of people’s transformation and my personal transformation in the bathroom mirror I feel that fulfillment and that drives me….

So there you go, lets see what the next 30 days will bring.

Cheers to all….

Sounds like you're making progress. Good job.

I agree, the bands aren't the way to go. Buy 10, 15, 20 and 25 lb dumbbells.

As for the pullups, they are tough, but you'll get there. I have the pullup bar and can do about 10. Instead of starting with the pullup bar or the bands, I use my wife's total gym set at the highest incline. This way I can get in around 20-25 reps which is helping me build upper body strength. I also use the assisted pullup machine at the gym.
