I've decided to take the plunge. I will be starting my first round of P90X on Feb 1st.

Post up if you are starting around the same time, whether it is your first go....or otherwise, or just stop in to say hey.

Chris

Just read all of the materials included with the "X", to be honest, I was really afraid of the nutrition plan...but after reading through it, it's not so bad. I like that there are a few different options. The fast food section will really help me out, mostly for travel days and business trips.

All ahead full!

Just order and plan to start 2/1. So new at this that I have not even had the chance to get a picture up yet. I did do the fitness test however...I passed but I sure have a lot of room for improvement: hope I can make it.

Hello everyone, just wanted to add here that I will be starting on February 1st along with you guys.

ohiomike - what part of ohio? I'm in Cincy - if you're in the GC area, there's a group for us, join up!

Steve - hope you get your dvd's soon, do you have the other equipment (pull-up bar, resistance bands/dumb bells, yoga mat, etc...)? If not, get them this weekend!

How did everyone do on the fit-test? I was able to do everything within spec except pull ups. I suck at those, always have. After this round of P90X though, I will be better.

Also, please feel free to add me as a buddy - I look forward to pushing play with all you and hopefully, you all will keep tabs on me too =)

Getting pumped!

Live in Dayton, but grow up in Cincinnati (Glen Este High School & UC graduate). How can I become a part of the GC group?

Just received my dvd's today. I have most of the equipment and look forward to getting started next Monday.

I have a recovery drink in mind and all that plan, but I think I will need something before the actual workout. One of my main concerns right now is nutrition before the workout. Since I plan do do this program the first thing in the AM, I really do not think it would be a good idea to have breakfast before the workout. I know I will be hungry and need something to provided the needed energy so that I can get through this workout. Any ideas?

PS-like you I did good on the fit test except the chin ups (did 1 and if I was being nice to myself-maybe another half of one after the first one).

Hey Mike - the groups thing is under your profile (if you click your screen name in the header, the third from the bottom on the popup is Groups). From there, search for Greater Cincinnati BeachBody (or just Cincinnati and it should show up). Your groups aren't any sort of message board or anything, it is just to see who all is around you also doing the program(s).

I am currently a student at UC, after taking a year and a half off to work, I am going back to finish my bachelors in math and finance. I should be graduating at the end of 2010. I, too, was born in the 'nati and have lived here all my life, currently living downtown.

I hear you about the eating schedule. Back when I was 18-19, I used to workout everyday in the morning. For me, the best thing to do was to wake up, immediately drink 8-16 ounces of water, do my morning stuff (but not eating anything), and head to the gym. On the way I would open a 24 oz gatorade/powerade/whatever and have a little bit then and through the workout. My workouts were generally 45-75 minutes (depending on which day I was on). By the time I was done, I would be done with the drink and be pretty burned out, ready for my protein shake/recovery drink. When I'd gotten home, I would have the shake, shower/bathroom finish getting ready. By that time it would probably have been about 2.25 hours after I've woken up, maybe 25 minutes since the shake, I would be a little hungry and have an egg white (hard boiled egg minus the yolk) or two, a glass of 1% milk and a banana (or half apple or some fruit, blueberries are also great). Taking a protein bar and the rest of the fruit (or the whole fruit if I didn't eat it) for a snack, and I'm on my way. Fruit would be eaten in about an 1.5 hours. No more than 3 hours after the egg is lunch (one option was turkey sandwich w/ veggies like tomato, lettuce, cucumber, onion, green pepper, banana pepper, brown mustard, maybe a pickle, pretzels). 2 hours later, protein bar. ~3 hours later, dinner. 2-2.5 hours later, bowl of cereal (like wheaties or total or special k or something high in fiber).

Basically, I wake up around 6, eat once around 830, snack around 10, lunch around 1130, snack 2 around 2, dinner around 530, cereal around 8, bed by 10 or 11. The break from 8PM to 8AM is long (I know) but the higher fiber keeps your metabolism up through the night. If you don't go to bed that early, you can always switch dinner with cereal or have another protein snack around 5, and then a balanced protein/fiber dinner around 8. That may keep you fuller, longer. Interestingly enough, after just a few days of that regimented schedule, my body just wasn't hungry immediately after waking up. I just got used to eating after the workout.

Obviously, as a student, it was much easier to do that routine. When I started working, it was much harder to do that, I got away from working out in the morning, then eating through the day stopped, etc... and here I am. Ha.

I think they say in the nutrition plan that subbing the protein shake for breakfast/lunch is a good thing. As long as you are eating healthily in the other meals, I would support that.

Anyway, sorry for the uber-long post, just wanted to give you a possible routine that did work extremely well for me. I look forward to applying a similar structure to my days come Feb 1. I have already started the healthier snacking and the early to bed/early to rise mentality. Obviously, do what works for you.

Ok. Have everything I need I think... My chin up bar is a little cramped....but I'm going to make it work.

I will be working out in the evenings after I get off at work.
The diet part...as you guys mentioned is the tough part....I guess I may have to do the shake supplement thing as well.

What size dumbells are you guys using? Just interested in seeing what everyone else's plan is

Good luck guys!

Hey Steve,

I am rocking the resistance bands instead of the dumbells.

http://cgi.ebay.com/5-RESISTANCE-BANDS-SET-For-P90X-YOGA-EXERCISE-TRAINING_W0QQitemZ250571177702QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3a5734bee6

They're cheaper and I can still build them up to about 50 pounds of resistance. I also have access to a pretty nice facility (the rec center at the UC) if I wanted to lift weights. For the curls test I used ~25 pounds (based off the bands) of resistance 28 reps. My goal is to be able to do all 5 bands/30 reps straight by the day 90.

If I were to go buy some dumbells, I would go with an adjustable set. I know the ones on this site are pretty expensive, one could probably find a better deal online or in a store some where. A more affordable way to do it would be to get two sets (comfortable for me would be 30 and 40) and then slowly build your "gym" as you need to. That way I could start with the 30, knowing that I would work up to the 40 quickly.

Unfortunately for me, my arms are not equally strong, nor are my biceps equally as strong as my triceps or my shoulders or my neck, etc... I think most people are like that too.

I will be using resistance bands as a replacement for the chin up bar this first go through. With the timing of my workouts there isn't a free doorway to put up the bar (there is only a small pantry door to use a door anchor for the resistance bands). I may get the bar part way through and shift to evening workouts, but my upper body will still get a pretty good work out with the bands, it's probably my weakest area.

I'm starting the same time!
I got my dvds in and I tried a few to see what they would be like. They are pretty grueling. I have dumbbells and a pull-up bar but I ordered resistance bands because I would prefer using those to the pull-up bar. I still need to do all my starting measurements. Good Luck everyone!!

I got my DVDs yesterday and I will be starting either 1/31 or 2/1. I'm thinking 1/31 so that my off day is on Saturday which is probably the day I'd miss a workout if I were to miss one. I may start on Monday with you guys, though. Good luck to all of us.

I ordered the resistance bands from the website with the door attachment extra thing. I haven't gotten them in yet but i'm wondering how does it work though because in the video it looks like they are slinging their band around a pull up bar attached to the ceiling. I just wonder how the attachment works if anyone bought that so you can use it like a lat bar in the video.
