shakeology stomach schisandra complain dizziness dizzy effect side stimulant coumadin upset
5/12/11 9:05 PM
Dear friends,

1.) I have one customer who just started Shakeology. She claims she gets dizzy a few hours after drinking it. It didn't happen when she was sampling it.

2.) I have another friend who sampled it and he claims it gives his body a boost of energy sort of like a stimulant effect. He blames the Schisandra powder as a stimulant. I've read up on Schisandra, and has been used to increase energy and increasing physical performance and endurance. - www.naturaldatabase.com - I have a subscription.

So has anyone else had customers who complain about how Shakeology makes them feel? Especially regarding the dizziness and stimulant complaints.

Thank you.

-Joe E.

It's hard to say what this is, or even if it's the result of Shakeology and both effects could be from various lifestyle alterations that happen with a new diet and exercise program. The latent dizzy feeling seems like it's more to do with glycogen depletion and is likely from her entire diet. The stimulant effect could be from many things if you want to break it down that way. The amount of schisandra is small compared to how it's used alone as a tonic--a fraction, really, and it isn't all that powerful (I've experimented with huge dosages and felt nothing). And this is the same for anything that could be itemized as a stimulant (greens formulations often provide a rush too, though without the crash that happens with sugar). That said, some people react differently to foods and there is no way to pinpoint what they issues are. If someone doesn't like Shakeology all we can do is advise them to not use it.

I've been wondering too. I've had 2 persons tell me that after drinking one, it ran them to the restroom. Is this command and no one has said anything? I've been drinking it for a few months and nothing like that has happened to me.

I don't think it's common. A lot of it can be a placebo effect. Also, I think that if someone has an unhealthy diet to begin with, then they drink this awesomely healthy drink, their body kinda gets "shocked" by it. Their body is not used to healthy food. That's just my opinion.

Hellooo!!! has anyone had this problem more recently?

I had an older customer try it for her dinner last night and said she was sick, both top and bottom! EEK!
Has anyone else encountered this? I personally LOVE it and have had no problems.
Would you suggest she try starting with a smaller serving and working her way up--or avoiding it completely?

Thanks!

I haven't had that problem, but as I stated earlier, this super healthy shake can be a shock to one's system. With that said, I will tell you this: I did the 3 day cleanse, it works too, and they don't call it a cleanse for no reason...sorry to admit this, I am human and this is real life.

what's her regular diet like? anyone that goes from one extreme to another (clean eating to bad or vice-versa) will have some adverse affects in the beginning as the body gets used to this new "fuel". but no, i've never heard of it cleaning someone out north and south.

A friend of mine is lactose intolerant and she has no problems as long as she doesn't mix it with milk. She uses almond milk. You can use soy milk too. Check the ingredients on the pdf file. Take that to your doctor to be extra safe.

The FAQ's on shakeology.com (bottom of page) address this specifically. Bottom line - 10% of the whey isolate used in Shakeology has the *chance* of affecting lactose intolerant folks.

This seems like a good thread to ask this question. I've been using Shakeology 6 months now, one glass a day. I love it and it has helped me in so many ways. Just yesterday evening I went to emergency room and discovered I have a blood clot in lower right leg. I'll be on coumadin for months they tell me. I'm also taking another thinner, I forgot the name but its a shot to the belly. I'm still in the hosptial by the way. From what I'm reading on the net, the foods that counteract coumadin aren't off limits per say, but that if I'm going to eat them, then eat the same amount every day so they can keep my blood levels stable. The foods listed were vitamin K and stated those were leafy greens and alot other green veg's. Does anyone see a problem with continuing on with one glass of Shakeology a day? Since its a measured amount daily I think it would be a plus to be on Shakeology during this time. I have the Shakeology PDF's on my laptop ready to ask the doctor when he comes in the morning. THe ingredients list Vitamin K1 (as phytonadione) 40mcg.

Okay, as you know, vitamin K does the opposite of coumadin, it causes clotting. And the injection is probably Lovenox or a type of heparin derivative. You are correct about being consistent with your leafy greens intake. 40mcg of Vit K is 50% of the daily recommended allowance by the FDA. Here's a good article from the gov'ment about foods and their Vit K content. /jfca18_751-758.pdf]Vitamin K content of foods[/url]
But know that broccoli from one source might contain different amounts than another source. It's just important to be consistent. Your body needs vitamin K. I do not recommend eliminating in from your body. The amount in Shakeology is fine, imho, as a pharmacist. You just have to make sure you're documenting all of your vitamin K intake. As Jim Rohn says, "Keep a journal!"
And of course make sure you're doc knows about it all.

I had a sample of Shakeology and was sad that 2 hours later i was extremely dizzy. I want to promote shakeolgy, and am afraid if I buy more It will still make me dizzy! I Have a very healthy diet 3 meals a day and one snack of carrot or a banana.. I only eat veggies, fruits and mywhite meats . Everything is low in fat. I tried mine for breakfast. Maybe I will be ok if I try it at lunch?

Two hours later? That doesn't sound like it's from the shake. Was there anything else you did that day that would have made you dizzy? I think that if it was from shake, it would happen with in 30 mins. All of the ingredients in shake are quickly absorbed (I think), especially since your stomach doesn't have to do much work. Did you do a workout that day, pre/post shake? I'm trying to blame something else on the dizziness, LOL! I can often find other things to blame for undocumented side effects if I can talk it out with people.

How low in fat? Your brain is 60% fat so you need a respectful amount to function. Dizziness IHMO sounds like malnutrition. I know shakeology is a meal replacement but if your ever craving fruits, veggies or meats (basically any food that not high sugar fat or salt because those are just junk food cravings) it's most likely you body telling you it needs them and you should eat them.

Don't think all fats are bad in fact some are extremely good for you.

I always remember a story I saw on a show called "I shouldn't be alive" where a guy was stranded in the ocean. He had a way of getting fish but only craved eating the eyes and liked the taste. I remember thinking who would even think to try the eyes? Turns out the eyes have a high fat content (needed in a survival situation) while having a high nutritional value (you still wont find me buying fish eyes at the grocery store). Interestingly enough not only does the body have a way of telling us what it needs it changes are taste buds to suit the foods we need.

It wasn't that long ago (1950's) people ate only wen they there hungry, couldn't find processed foods if they wanted to and ate until they were satisfied (not full).
