I always remember a story I saw on a show called "I shouldn't be alive" where a guy was stranded in the ocean. He had a way of getting fish but only craved eating the eyes and liked the taste. I remember thinking who would even think to try the eyes? Turns out the eyes have a high fat content (needed in a survival situation) while having a high nutritional value (you still wont find me buying fish eyes at the grocery store). Interestingly enough not only does the body have a way of telling us what it needs it changes are taste buds to suit the foods we need.

I saw that episode. YUCK!! Yeah, the survivor's body somehow told them to like the fish eyes, that's crazy right!!?? Anyway, my body tells me to like Shakeology!!!! Yummmy!!

Yeah that was a good show it's hard to believe what people survived and interesting how. It probably has something to do with how are neurons in the stomach and brain work but I have no idea how. lol until it's explained to me it'll just be one of those crazy things the body does. I've been doing shakeology for 2 weeks now already lost 10 pounds I'm loving that.

Two hours later? That doesn't sound like it's from the shake. Was there anything else you did that day that would have made you dizzy? I think that if it was from shake, it would happen with in 30 mins. All of the ingredients in shake are quickly absorbed (I think), especially since your stomach doesn't have to do much work. Did you do a workout that day, pre/post shake? I'm trying to blame something else on the dizziness, LOL! I can often find other things to blame for undocumented side effects if I can talk it out with people.

Well, I was dizzy prior to the 2 hours, but I am saying it lasted beyond two hours. I just got my first order of home direct, and I definately do eat VERY clean and very healthy. My Diet is balanced. I will let you all know how i do In the morning with my first try on greenberry. I am praying it isnt why!. Maybe I need to add some fruit and thinkgs tot he shake. I had it for Bkfast, which is what I am doing tomorrow as well. I will let you know!

Hi guys. I know I took forever to get back to you. Guess what, i do not get dizzy after shakeology. I believe it has to do with the fact I drank wine the night before and already lowered my blood sugar. I experimented to try and find a reason to give to others. Well i drank one night 2 glasses of white wine, and The next morning within 20 minutes or so i was dizzy again. So my suggestion is do not drink. I found that it is a bad idea, and no fault of the Shakeology
Now I am feeling better, having less muscle pain, and my hair and nails are growing like crazy. I have always had adult acne. Whenn i first started i had it worse, almost like my body as in detox mode. Now I alsmot have NO acne at all maybe a small red bump on my chin here and there, and it only getting better. It has only been 30 days, and I can say Shakeology lives up to the hype!!

It's funny you mention that. Way back in January of this year, I gave a co-worker a couple samples of Shakeology. He told me it made him dizzy. Well, he's an alcoholic. So this could explain something, LOL! He was hating on Shakeology after that. Just proves the point, if you don't eat healthy already, it will be a shock to your system. I'll have to try some Shakeology the day after some drinks, I'll let you know if I get dizzy. Thanks for sharing!

The first time I tried Shakeology I like the taste and had no side effects but after about the 3rd day I had a bad pressure/pain in my upper abdomen and felt like I was going to vomit. I tried lowering the amount I drank and just could not tolerate it. I never used it again. That was over a year ago. I used the green drink at that time and have decided to try the chocolate this time. I do not have the healthiest eating habits and figured this would be a way for me to get much needed nutrients. Multis usually make me sick too especially if I take them without eating so I shy away from those.

When you say "Multis", are you talking about multivitamins? They upset a lot of people's stomachs. Especially if taken on an empty stomach. If you're not a healthy eater, and you suddenly start eating healthy, your body isn't going to like it. It's so used to its old habits. It's sort of like a junky trying to kick the habit. There's going to be a bit of withdrawal. At least that's what I think. I've heard of people who eat really bad, then try Shakeology and it just rocks their digestive system. It's like exercising for the first time in years, your body is going to be sore. I have to believe the same will apply to your intestinal tract and diet. You know what I mean? This is my opinion. I believe Shakeology must be given a 30 day try to really know how it will affect you.

vitamin k content of foods coumadin
2/16/11 7:55 AM as a reply to pharmacistjoe.
pharmacistjoe:
kgiltner:
This seems like a good thread to ask this question. I've been using Shakeology 6 months now, one glass a day. I love it and it has helped me in so many ways. Just yesterday evening I went to emergency room and discovered I have a blood clot in lower right leg. I'll be on coumadin for months they tell me. I'm also taking another thinner, I forgot the name but its a shot to the belly. I'm still in the hosptial by the way. From what I'm reading on the net, the foods that counteract coumadin aren't off limits per say, but that if I'm going to eat them, then eat the same amount every day so they can keep my blood levels stable. The foods listed were vitamin K and stated those were leafy greens and alot other green veg's. Does anyone see a problem with continuing on with one glass of Shakeology a day? Since its a measured amount daily I think it would be a plus to be on Shakeology during this time. I have the Shakeology PDF's on my laptop ready to ask the doctor when he comes in the morning. THe ingredients list Vitamin K1 (as phytonadione) 40mcg.

Okay, as you know, vitamin K does the opposite of coumadin, it causes clotting. And the injection is probably Lovenox or a type of heparin derivative. You are correct about being consistent with your leafy greens intake. 40mcg of Vit K is 50% of the daily recommended allowance by the FDA. Here's a good article from the gov'ment about foods and their Vit K content. /jfca18_751-758.pdf]Vitamin K content of foods[/url]
But know that broccoli from one source might contain different amounts than another source. It's just important to be consistent. Your body needs vitamin K. I do not recommend eliminating in from your body. The amount in Shakeology is fine, imho, as a pharmacist. You just have to make sure you're documenting all of your vitamin K intake. As Jim Rohn says, "Keep a journal!"
And of course make sure you're doc knows about it all.

-Joe E.

I am a 33 year old on Coumadin. I take 1/2 the prescribed amount so that I can keep my vitamin K content in check - this helps me know how much I am getting. BUT..there are MANY foods that have vitamin K in them, but the nutritional information does not say it.

My question is, other than the Vitamin K, does the supplement affect how the Coumadin works? The docs will say don't use any supplements because they are not monitored by the FDA, and therefore, it is not known what will happen.

Yes, the Gingko powder may affect it. But as I stated before, I believe constancy is the key. Doctors are right to tell you to stay away from supplements while on cousin for the reasons you stated. You have to look at it from a risk vs. benefit perspective. Is it worth the risk? I would say not, although if it where me, I'd still drink it. No supplement is going to affect INR's more than vitamin K. I'd have to look into each ingredient to really say, but I don't think there's much, if any, information about them out there. Better safe than sorry I guess. I'm sorry I'm flip flopping on this topic, it really boils down to the individual. Ultimately, just listen to your doctor.

P.S. I'm sorry you have to take that stuff, its nasty.

Okay, I ran a drug interaction check on most of herbal ingredients in Shakeology with Coumadin and Lovenox. A lot came back as interacting "moderately" with both, more w/ Coumadin than Lovenox, no surprise there. Ginkgo was labeled as a "major" interaction on both, no surprise there either. But it is my professional opinion that the amount of these herbs in Shakeology are not enough to dramatically change ones INR. And I'm not including the FDA approved vitamins in this discussion.

One ingredient that's a bit broad is the Citrus Bioflavonoids. Where do they come from is my question? If they're from grapefruit, then we have a problem, if not, then no problem. Also, I noticed Shakeology has "Spirulina" and "Blue Green Algae." Spirulina is a blue green algae so I'm a little confused on that.

Ingredients that my search could not cross check were Sacha Inchi, Yacon, Hydrilla, Pea Fiber, Quinoa, and Kamut. I don't think there's much info on those out there. I assume that pea fiber is just that, a fiber, so I wouldn't worry about that one.

I'm going to make a pdf file of my findings here. If you're interested in it, drop me a message. My email is [link cut]
It may take me a few days to get it made. I have a pile of papers here. I'm also going to research those ingredients I couldn't pull up at work. I should have done this a long time ago. This is fun, hehe!

Cheers!!

shakeology causing me to go to bathroom a lot
2/22/11 8:52 PM as a reply to numanagement.
Hey NuManagement!

Actually it is pretty common for people to become more than regular when they start drinking Shakeology. I, like you, have really not had this problem but I know many who did. After they were on Shakeology for a few weeks they went back to normal or if they had irregular BMs it helped them be more regular.

It should be a good sign the Shakeology is doing what it's supposed to do, that being said it could be something else. Everyone is different

If you watch the test subject videos, I think all of them mention this effect emoticon.

Take it EZ,

Teri

Thanks, Joe, for your help on this, and sorry for the long time between posts - I just figured out how to follow them!!! My docs have approved the use of Shakeology and doing the chocolate is helping me keep my levels in check. if anyone else is doing Shakeology and on Coumadin, don't take the greenberry. I'm not sure what is in it that is different than the chocolate (I thought it was the same ingredients just with cocoa powder) but the greenberry drove my INR down to extremely, dangerously low levels.

And yes, it stinks having to take it. Being a girl that LOVES salad, spinach, brocoli, etc, it is hard to give those things up. But, a mostly happy medium was found in Shakeology!

I've been drinking Shakeology for weeks without any major problems. Gas is normal to me since I take whey. But once I tried the cleanse, after day 3 my stomach felt like it had imploded. I had major abdominal pain, nausea & headaches. It's been 2 days after the cleanse and these symptoms have not subsided. I haven't taken Shakeology since I finished the cleanse. I'm fit and eat very healthy.

I've read other threads with people having the same problem. I'm guessing the serving size is too much for me. I'm 5'2 & weigh relatively light. I'm going to stay loyal to Shakeology and drink only half a serving daily because I still believe it's a great and healthy product.

I know this thread is already resolved, but I thought it was necessary to add/address this and not ignore it or sweep it under the rug.

This thread is still going. More questions have been asked. I changed the title to reflect that.

Has your stomach returned to normal? I'm sorry for the problem. I have no idea. When it comes to stomach aches and food, anything is possible in any person. You may do it again with no problem. Have you ever had this problem before? I wouldn't cut the serving. Or maybe drink half in the am, half in the pm.

I'm sorry I don't have a magic answer for this question. Let me know if you're okay.

I haven't had stomach problems in the past. My stomach is still cramping, but it's definitely not as bad as day 2 when the pain was at it's peak. I started turning red because the pain was too intense for me to handle.

I've tried Alka Seltzer and that didn't work. I think my digestive muscles became really hyperactive and the muscles are still contracting. I'm still trying to figure out what happened to me.

It's definitely nothing I ate because I was on the cleanse-strictly, shakes, green tea, water, fruits.

You're right, everyone has a different reaction. Unfortunate that I was the rare case!

Thanks for your concern. This is definitely something I have to wait out. I just hope they come out with some information about side effects soon.

I was reading your profile. You say you're a peskatarian. Maybe your intestinal system is not adjusted to Shakeology. I know that when people go from one extreme to another, i.e. meat eater to vegitarian and back, they experience a degree of digestion problems. You're issue might be just that. I think that if you continue to drink Shakeology, you're body will get used to it. How long have you been drinking it? Do you drink it every day (like you're supposed to emoticon?)

I was drinking Shakeology everyday for a month before I tried the cleanse. Peskatarian just means I'm too lazy to stop eating seafood. Ha! But in all seriousness, I'm sure tons of vegetarians drink Shakeology without negative side effects. I think it was just a freak occurence since it seems like I'm the only unfortunate one in the entire universe that this happened to.

The pain finally subsided and I'm just going to bury what happened to me 20 ft. into the ground and leave it in the past. They lucked out big time. If it happened to someone else, they'd be asking for a refund or some sort of monetary compensation emoticon

I do hope they do more research on the product or become FDA approved, though. Providing more information in general would be awesome since it's a pretty strong product.

I don't think Shakeology will ever gain an FDA approval. Herbal products have a long way to go in that arena. It's in our best interest that they don't get approved. The cost will skyrocket and the availability will diminish. You just have to trust me on that. Congress tried to pass a bill to control herbal medicine, but it never made it past committee. John McCain sponsored the bill. http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-s3002/show

Anyway, I believe Beachbody is coming out with a vegan form of Shakeology. It might even be Kosher. We'll know what's in store at summit. Can't wait!!!

Ever since I started shakeology-chocolate I have had a digestive "issue". I know this cleanses your body and I DO NOT have or have ever had a terrible diet. I have always eaten whole foods and veggies but have found that this has really messed up my digestive tract. I really love it and hoped it would go away after awhile but it seems to be worse/ Possible that I may be allergic to something in it?

Unfortunately Cheryl I'm having the same issues as you are...I even took a day off yesterday of Shakeology but only after having it three times I'm still having pain today. I eat a healthy diet and workout so I really don't know what is causing it either. I'm hoping it's the fact that I accidentally grabbed soymilk at the grocery store instead of almond milk to mix it with. What are you blending yours with? My mom started Shakeology same time as me and is having no issues at all, and I know she doesn't eat as clean as I do...who knows!

Hope this clears up soon, I love the taste of Shakeology but i can't handle this kind of digestive pain.
