4 weeks into Insanity and have health questions
I am currently in week 4 of Insanity, and have been having some wierd health effects. I've noticed since starting that my sternum occasionally pops, and the middle of my chest feels tight and like there's dull pressure on it all the time. I also sometimes feel slightly nauseous about 1/2 hour to an hour after working out. But never during or immediately after the workout. I usually eat a protein shake 1 hr after the workout, and drink about 2-3 glasses of water during the workout.

I'm wondering if this could be due to the pushups in the workouts that could be causing some muscle fatigue or inflammation in my chest, or if in general I'm over-exerting myself and it's my body's way to say take it easy? I certainly don't want to take a break from the workouts, and am hoping this is easily explained. Any ideas? Is this normal? Please help!

I'm thinking this is more of a medical question and you should talk to your doc, especially if sternum is popping. If it were me I would halt this until the doc checked me out.

Thanks. Doc checked me out today and says the popping and slight tightness is normal when starting an intense workout program such as this, and that it's probably a bit of inflammation in my chest. Went back at it today, this time with a heart rate monitor, and I think all is fine.

Cool. That solves the tricky part. You post-exercise protein shake is aiding your shakyness. Post exercise you need glycogen recharge fast and protein absorbs slowly and can inhibit other nutrient absorption and prolong your body's ability to restore glycogen and this repair breakdown from the workout, leading to a nausiated shakey feeling. Instead finish your workout with 100-200 calories of a 4 parts carbs to 1 part protein snack (something like Recovery Formula). You'll feel a ton better.
