What is a good replacement for Kempo in the 90 day routine?

I have been substituting Plyo (with random push up sets during the breaks) for Kempo. Kempo is not doing it for me either.

I don't suggest doing Plyo twice in one week. A workout that intense coupled with another intense legs routine is really all you need to hammer your lower body. Overtraining those areas, especially on consecutive days, are a sure ticket to the sideline, if not now then eventually.

If you're not finding Kenpo X as challenging for you as prescribed, then you also have the option of looking into Kenpo Cardio + or any of the interval training discs from Tony's One on One series. Or you could supplement the Kenpo workout with a bike ride, jog, hike- something to get your heart rate elevated.

Best of luck,
Kim

CardioX would be another option.

I like doing bodyweight intervals as well (burpees, plyo lunges, kettlebell swings, pank runs, etc.). 30 secs per exercise, 4 exercises in a row = 2 minute round, rest 30 secs, repeat. All kinds of bodyweight exercises and calisthentics that can be mixed and matched.

While Plyo twice a week can be a bad thing - Shaun T managed to sell an entire program with nothing but plyo interval training 6 days a week =D - ok jokes off.

I've been doing Insanity and/or Interval + substitute for Kempo - I try to keep it fresh. I've been hearing great things from my team about adding weights to the workout. They'll use weighted gloves, vests, and ankles to truly give them the best workout possible. I must admit that doing all those punches & kicks with added weight could bring it into the realm of your liking.

Then as KD said there's the Cardio X option. Remember you can sort of tailor your own cardio workout from P90x. Take you a good Yoga stretch followed by a standard warm-up - then throw in about 4 of your favorite plyo moves - add the parts of kempo you like // you get the idea.

Just my .02 and good comments from everyone.

It's not all plyo, though- I think Tony's is geared specifically for jump training with INSANITY is more cardio-oriented, even though he does hammer your lower body as well.

With my martial arts background of 30 years, I love kenpox. You can make it more challenging by doing the moves faster and kicking higher, also punch and kick with more movement and intensity. You can also add a heavy bag for more intensity. Don't take the 5 second break go right to the other side and go fast as usual. You can also use weighted gloves. But don't go to heavy because your body actually needs a lighter recovery ways with more cardio. I just do faster kicks and punches all the way through with less breaks than the DVD. You will see the difference. A great substitution is Cardio X.

Oh my gosh, I love kenpo! It's my favorite of the week. I didn't think it was hard enough at first, but I made it more difficult by doing the moves as sharply, quickly, and with the most intensity as possible. My back is still killing me from it. And if you still don't feel like you're being productive, go for a jog afterwards.
