Inspired by the discussion about the new random cardio one on one workout, I thought I'd create an Excel spreadsheet to generate a random workout based on a defined workout structure. I may have got a bit carried away on the features, but I thought some might find it useful.

It is here
Workout Generator

If the link is broken or disappears, you can email me for a copy at
brucexs AT yahoo DOT com

The Workout Generator creates workouts by selecting random exercises according a workout structure.

The generator comes with exercises and pre-set workout structures based on workouts in P90X and Insanity. You can also create your own structures and add or change the exercises.

The generator requires Excel macros to be enabled. The source code is open and can be reviewed if you want to do that before enabling macros.

It has been tested on Excel 2000 and Excel 2003 on XP.

Thanks for the idea I created a Workout Generator workout generator that randomly picks from different categories and includes the workouts I use. The Misc category are ones I do not do that often but can work in from time to time. Check it out and let me know what you think. If there is enough interest i can create variations on different tabs.

Your spreadsheet is a nice idea to keep the workout dvd's from p90x and one-on-one as they are, but allow people to create a randomized program using them. I think many people will like that approach.

For me, although I always get good ideas from the one-on-one's, I find many of the work outs not intense enough or too focused on a one or two body parts for my liking.

My workout program currently looks like this

Day 1: One of the insanity workouts from the first month

Day 2: 20 minute bike intervals plus 20 minutes back/shoulder/arms cardio intervals
OR 24 sets randomized workout back/shoulder/arms

Day 3: One of the insanity workouts 2nd month OR plyo X intensified with less rest

Day 4: A Yoga workout

Day 5: Randomized Chest and Back OR randomized Core Ball OR Randomized upper body OR Randomized Insanity-Style upper body

Day 6; Randomized Leg plus bike intervals OR randomized Legs and Core OR randomized Plyo Legs

Abs twice a week. (Insanity has lots of abs and chest in addition to cardio and legs)

Just about done week 2 of a P90X/1 on One Hybrid Round 3. I made a Random Workout Generator that will pick workouts for you from P90X/P90X+ and One on One. I use it to select each day's workouts. Shakes it up a lot. I have compiled links for all my One on one Reviews. Here are individual reviews on each of the One on One's written over the last 6 months.

BruceXS,

I saw a link to your workout generator and decided to try it... it was something I was looking at doing for a while myself (though don't have the excel skills to do what you did). Just wanted to say WAY AWESOME! I've been doing P90X and other BB products for exactly 1 year now. Today was the first day I did one of the random mod's... Shoulders & Arms. It was awesome because I think it will help from becoming stagnant after having done P90X specifically for so long. I even had S&A playing in the background to get a feel for the timing and it was perfect. I also added a "balance", or Yoga, section on the spreadsheet you made, which I am looking forward to doing, though that will be a bit tricker to figure out how to do. Plus, lets face it, it wouldn't flow near as smoothly as regular Yoga X especially with all the salutation stuff.

Anyway, bottom line just wanted to say THANKS a million!!
