How long did it take you to lose weight?
I've started Turbo Jam again, which I love and have so much fun doing... but my results are a little discouraging:

3/10/10 187 lb (started)
4/22/10 186 lb

So I lost 1 lb in about 6 weeks! Wow.

How long did it take the rest of you to start losing weight with Turbo Jam? Was it immediate, or did it take awhile to see results pay off? I know sometimes it takes a little while but I would've thought it would be faster than this, esp. since I went from completely sedentary to the videos 3-4x/wk and cut out junk food. Any advice on what I should be doing? Please tell me your experience!

I'd also like to hear how long people took to get their results. I've been doing the Turbo Jam system according to the workout schedule since 3/25 and here it is 4/22 and I've only lost 1 lb. as well. I like the workout, but I'm starting to get discouraged...

Thanks for the help!

Can I ask how many calories you are eating in a day? That is usually a gret place to begin. You need to be aware of the calories your body needs to build the lean muscle you are trying to build. I know from being on different (well known) eating plans, I may have lost the weight by eating 1200 calories in a day but I was actually doing more damage to my body than good. My body was starving. Yes I was able to lose the weight for a while but then I hit this wall that even though I was eating good food and staying within my calorie restrictions, I just could not lose any more. Over the next couple years, I slowly put on 5 or so pounds a year until I was back up to where I had started. I was still eating healthy mind you, my body was not having it though. So, I do always like to start with your suggested calorie intake. Have you used the online tool for calculating your calories?

Second, I am using Turbo Jam as well and I have been for several weeks. I know the scale hasn't moved much for me but that doesn't bother me because I take my measurements each week and add them into the online goal tracker. Just in the first 2 weeks I lost 7 inches over my entire body. To me that was amazing. So, even though I had only lost a pound or two, I had actually lost 7 inches. Amazing in to me. So, from then on I have based more of my success on my inches lost than pounds. Yes I still weigh myself, but my goals are more measurement oriented than by weight lost.

I would love to help you figure this out. If you want to tell me about your calorie intakes and whether you drink enough water each day, that is a good starting point.

Hi Kim, thanks for offering your expertise. I wonder if maybe I am not eating enough calories too? I have been skipping breakfast - not on purpose but just b/c I'm not hungry and don't usually feel like eating in the mornings. I've never really been much of a breakfast person. But I think I need to work on eating a breakfast of 400 calories or so every day. I did use the calorie calculator (which I didn't even realize was here until you mentioned it - thank you!) and it is estimating about 1600 calories a day, which is what I thought. I like to do 400 calories 4x a day, but I don't really think I've been hitting that, and like I said I was skipping meals, sometimes even lunch.

I do actually drink a ton of water; ice water is my favorite drink in the whole world. I always have a glass of it at hand, even at work, where we have a chipped ice machine on my floor! I drink water with all my meals & snacks (except breakfast, when I have coffee).

Thanks Kim! This helped me too. I just started Weight Watchers online to keep track of what I'm eating. I have been taking in too many calories (I love my pasta!).

Thanks for the helpful advice!

Hey Jana, I'm a carb addict too! Don't miss sweet stuff, but bring on the pasta and breads! Even though I eat the whole wheat versions, it's still carbs. Was just reading how most of the celebs are on low-carb diets. Not sure I can do that as a lifestyle, I'll just have to use moderation I guess! I've used Weight Watchers in the past and it really helped. Now I use sparkpeople.com, which is free and helps you track your calories, even recommends free meal plans for you; you can adjust your calories and all kinds of nutrients, etc.

Anyway, I'm at 179 now, so scale is starting to move! Yay! How's your progress Jana?
