tskinner:
So I'm moving home after college, and my brother has both p90x and insanity and uses both, but he's a lot bigger (taller and mass wise) than I am. I'm about 5'11'' and weigh only 130 pounds. My goal is to gain weight and look all around cut and toned.
So my quick question is, should I focus on using only p90x or insanity, or switch it up like he does? From what I've gathered, insanity is more for fitness and p90x is about building mass, which would be more in line with my goals. Is this accurate?
I'm looking to start around June 2nd, so I'm sure I'll be joining a group here when I do. The support here is awesome!
Thanks!
They are both great programs but with slightly different purposes. Insanity will get you crazy fit because of all the cardio, it also will lean you out. P90X is a mix of strength training and cardio. To bulk up you need to lift, so P90X is probably what you want to do.
When you want to gain weight you need to eat heavy and lift heavy. If you don't get a surplus of calories you won't be successful no matter how much you weight train. When you eat a surplus of calories you can't help but gain fat along with muscle mass. Most of us will bulk up for a while and then cut back the calories to a slight deficit to lose the extra fat so our new muscle shows. So there is a process to bulking up and getting cut.
Also, what good is it to have bigger muscles but not be able to do much with it? That's why there is flexibility training in P90X as well. It's a very well rounded program.
