This is exactly what I'm looking for. How awesome! I won't be finished with Insanity until June 13th, then I'm going directly into this P90X-Insanity hybrid. I'll be right behind man!

Team Warrior Fitnes 808 is at it again. This is going to be a great workout routine along with our training for the September event.

So if anyone wishes to join us when we kick start this off May 31st, your more then welcomw to. I'll be doing the shakeology cleanse before this butt kicking workout begins. Its a good way to clean out ones system before hitting a new workout program.

One of my "why's"
5/24/10 12:57 AM as a reply to claymh808.
I enjoy training in the martial arts and it really helps keep me focused during the P90X or Insanity cycles. This is an article from one of my favorite blogs.

Something I come across time and again in martial arts forums is the debate over the importance of physical fitness and conditioning in martial training.

Some of the arguments center on the technique vs “muscle” issue. This is the ”so an 80 yo person can’t be a proficient martial artist if they are not training like a MMA fighter?” tack. This person argues the “use their strength against them”…”it’s all about technique, not strength”…”a fight will be over in seconds”… “conditioning and self-defense are separate disciplines” party line. They believe that martial arts are more about leverage, target selection and technique than the individuals physical conditioning. You tend to see many “traditional arts” people in this camp, especially “non-sparring” arts.

In the other camp are the people who believe that a fit and strong person with martial training, perhaps not a “technician”, but with basic skills, will trump an out of shape fighter. Many people who think this practice the more “sporting” arts; MMA, Boxing, Thai etc.

Personally, I think that many of the people who “poo-poo” conditioning are perhaps looking to justify their lack of it. Or explain why they are not doing a conditioning program. I think that it’s important for anybody who takes “combative training” seriously to be spending a significant portion of their training time on physical fitness. Yes, technique is important, but all physical activity will be faster, stronger and more efficient with a fitter body.

Granted, not all martial arts schools have the time or ability to condition their students AND train them in the art they practice. Some arts, simply based on what they do, are a workout in themselves. But MANY arts do not present an opportunity for physical conditioning, as many practitioners stretching out the belly of their Gi’s can attest to. The “martial arts” as fitness sales gimmick is not always as advertised.

H2H fighting ability aside, I believe that fitness training is as much about developing “mental toughness” and “fighting spirit” as it is about the body. I wrote about this in a previous post called “Embrace the Suck“. If you are not pushing yourself past your limits in the dojo AND the gym, you are cheating yourself.

In addition, when it comes to the soldier, the LEO and anybody in a self-defense/survival scenario; there are MANY other physical tasks beyond fighting that need to be considered. Running from threats, chasing suspects, carrying packs, jumping fences, dragging/carrying wounded people and simply doing anything while wearing a ton of “guns n’ gear” require you to be physically fit. It also helps in avoiding injury while you are doing these things.

In closing, let me clarify that I AM NOT saying that if you are not as conditioned as a Olympic athlete that you are misguided in your training, but we can ALL focus on being as fit as we can for our age, our needs and our time allowed. Thats my opinion. What’s yours?

Anyone else want to jump in? Feel free you don't sign up under me or whatever this is about helping each other through the next round of whatever program you are starting. Clay and I are using the programs to help prepare for an event (Eskrima Tournament) in September and I think the hybrid of P90X and Insanity will benefit us the most. Jump on in if ya want to!

Blend shakeology with ice to make it a smoothie helps to break up the drink. Do this for three days, and then you'll have completed the Shakeology Cleanse.

Then come May 31st. It's time to go to work.

Great job Clay, don't forget about the tournament in Sept.

I sent an email out to see how some of my customers were doing and I'm stoked to find out that one of my customers dropped 15lbs while using P90X in preparation for 2010 International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Championships. I think that is freakin awesome and it only gets me more stoked to get started.

What an awesome day to kick off our hybrid workout!

Started off the day with a trip to the beach, left early to make sure we got a good spot. When we arrived at the park it wasn't as packed as I expected, we got a great spot under some shade and the tide was out but there was still enough water to create shallow pools of water for the boys to play in and enjoy. Then as clouds arrived and the beach began to busier we left to grab some lunch at Cholo's a restaurant on the N. Shore. Lucked out and get in right before the crowd and the place filled up. Some good grub there. Came home and chilled with the family and now it's time to end the day with a solid workout. Pure awesomeness!!

This is what Clay and I enjoy doing, this is some old footage from 2008, Insanity has helped me with my cardio, all my training buddies are in much better shape so it is my goal to get in just as good of shape or better. I'm aiming for better but it will take some time and with Team Beachbody Clay and I will do this.

This is some footage from last years tournament and what we are using the hybrid to prepare for. Watching the clip just help keep me motivated.

Day 3 P90X Arms and Shoulders.
hybrid workout kettlebells p90x arms and shoulders
6/2/10 8:22 PM as a reply to CoachRobertK808.
Straight from my blog:

Today was day three of our 13 week P90X \ Insanity hybrid program. Today’s workout was P90X: Shoulders and Arms, great workout I felt pretty wiped at the end of the session. I even used my heart rate monitor to see how many calories I burnt and according to the watch I burnt 1,149 in 1hr and 18 minutes. Now the workout isn’t that long but now that my 8 yr old is out of school I have two kids at home. At times they keep each other entertained but there were times where interruptions were unavoidable, LOL. Either way its all good. I love my kids and I hope that seeing me workout will inspire them to get involved with fitness and or sports activities. Another thing is that I’m missing a set of dumb bells and I had to improvise with my Kettlebells 35 & 53 lbs, dumbbells 5 and 20 lbs and my bands that came with the P90X kit. All in all everything worked out fine, I know I can go heavier with the curls but cant quite curl the 53lbs KB yet but I did what I could and pushed myself as hard as I could with the tools that I had. I used the 5lbs for some of the fly and shoulder exercises and it was really cool using a lighter weight I could really squeeze the triceps really hard, yeah I know I can go higher in weight it was really cool feeling the triceps get squeezed. Also when doing fly’s for the back of the shoulder aka inverted fly (posterior deltoid) it doesn’t really take much to work those muscles because they are rather small, eventually you’ll get stronger and require something heavier but there is nothing wrong with starting light. If you go too heavy then instead of working the intended muscle you may recruit other muscles who will do some or most of the work instead of the muscle that the exercise is designed to target. Well.. thats about it I also recorded to videos a pre and post workout video clip, eventually I ‘ll edit them both into one clip.
