Insanity Results - Post P90X
insanity
7/6/10 5:30 PM
As expected, I did not see major physical changes in 63 Days of Insanity but my cardiovascular fitness and Fit Test results were better than I anticipated. My body weight stayed pretty constant at 175lbs throughout the program with the exception of a pound or two here and there.

I'm 34 years old and 6ft tall. Body fat was 8.9% when I started and haven't checked it since completing Insanity but I'm guessing it dropped about a point or two...maybe not.

Let me know what you guys think and any specific areas that I need to work in before starting the X-Sanity hybrid in a few weeks.

Thank you for the comment. Are you currently doing Insanity or a different beachbody program? Let me know if I can help provide any guidance or insight on some of the things that worked for me over the last 150 days (X + Insanity).

Yeah, I'd like to know what you learned through your experiences as you look great.

I'm currently very similar to you, at least in a few regards, 34, 6 feet, 172 lbs - but I don't look near that good, not yet at least.

I just started Insanity, I'm giving that a go for the next 61 days (day two was today). Anything you can share would be great.

Ryan.

Sure Ryan...Success in any of these beachbody programs in my opinion is dependant on:

1. Diet. You have to fuel yourself properly to get through tough workouts like Insanity and P90X. The key is unlocking your fat cells by taking out starchy carbs and minimizing, if not eliminating sugar. Since totally eliminating sugar is near impossible, I tried to limit myself to 150g of carbs per day.

2. Intensity. You are only going to get out it what you put in. If you can bring max intensity to each and every move, you will see results. It takes longer to see physical changes take place in some people so don't get discouraged. Don't get too caught up in what the scales say. Judge your success by how you feel and how your clothes fit.

3. Support. You will find plenty of that here. Pretty much everybody is here to help others achieve their goals and pass along wisdom gained from tackling the great programs beachbody has to offer.

We can chat more through PM's or email if you want a more detailed description of my diet and supplements. I'd love to share it with you.

Nathan

csanped411: checked out your profile...looks like you made some major improvements as well.

Way to go. Is that from P90X or Insanity?

Dude, your day one photos are what we're all striving for. LOL! I couldn't imagine looking like that and thinking, "I gotta do better than this," but you did it. I haven’t looked like that since I was 19 and graduated from the TEAMS. With that said, at 41 I am slowly making my way back; just not at the pace I would like.

Keep pushing and posting as you are an inspiration to us all. Good luck!

Enigma: This newfound fitness I have attained is an absolute addiction. It's kind of like my golf game (also an addiction), no matter how well I play, I want to keep improving and lower my handicap. Probably a bad example if you are not a golfer but I think you get what I mean.

With the right intensity and proper nutrition, there is no reason you can't achieve similar results. I've commented many times before, how the human body can be transformed in only 90 days is mind-blowing to me but is totally do-able.

Good luck in your road back to that level of health and fitness that you had 22 years ago. You can totally do it man.

Thanks Nathan. I know I’ll get there; I’m just impatient like everyone else. Oh, and I know what you mean about the golf analogy. Before I got married and had kids I had a 2 handicap, and played all over.

Yeah, I’ve been playing since my senior year in high school. My cousin was on the PGA tour for a little while, and even won a couple here and there. It’s a great game, and frustrating at the same time. I am in the process of teaching my 5 year old how to play, and then will start work on my daughter; she just turned 3. I figured that was the only way I was ever getting back out there again. LOL. Thanks for the encouragement.

You're ripped in all three pictures. Great results. I'd say the only thing I notice is that in the last picture, the size of your muscles seemed to decrease while your abs, obliques and even intercostals became completely shredded. You're still pretty ripped in those other pictures, just in that last one it's to a completely different level.

The advice you offer is really good. I'm currently on my first round of Insanity, on day 3 of the recovery week.

I've been feeling a little discouraged because looking in the mirror, I know I still have a considerable amount of weight to lose (at least 40 lbs) and although I've gotten a lot more definition and lost a lot of weight on Insanity (20 lbs in the first 4 weeks) I know that to get the definition and ripped body I'm going to have to do another round of Insanity or do my first round of P90X.

It's definitely worth it from the changes I'm seeing. But I'm getting impatient. I started this journey into health back in February. I have made significant strides (over 80 lbs lost) but I'm getting discouraged. I'm starting to feel like maybe I had gotten way too heavy and stretched my skin out too far to ever get an amazingly ripped body like you see in the infomercials. I started out at 6'2" and 308, I'm now down to 220.

Do you have any tips for someone who knows they're going to have to do more than just one time around in these programs to get the level of fitness and the body they want?

TNM: Major props for your weight loss so far man. That kind of weight loss in that amount of time is monumental. You obviously have made a commitment to yourself to make positive lifestyle changes and I applaud you for that. Please don't get discouraged. You have come too far to lose the focus and determination that got you to this point.

Achieving the visible abdominals that it sounds you are looking for requires a pretty low BF%...like in the single digits. At 6'2, 220, you are probably around 15-18 BF% I would guess. Please correct me if I am off base. I never want to assume anything. You will need to get down to 10% at least. Now, overall muscle definition is definitely do-able but to get there, I would definitely recommend jumping into P90X after Insanity wraps up. Insanity has the ability to sculp your body in ways that only HIIT cardio training can do but the X will transform you entirely.

Your diet is going to be key in the max phase coming up. It is tough to get the right amount of calories so you have enough fuel in the tank to power through these tough workouts but not overdo it. It's tempting to operate with a major calorie deficit but your ability to go with max intensity will be compromised. Eat plenty of good fats from nuts, lean meats and the occasional protein bar....and lots and lots of vegetables, about as many as you can stand.

A piece of fruit before a workout always helped me.

Keep going hard man. Don't get discouraged. You didn't gain all that weight in two months so you can't expect it all to come off in that amount of time. I'm rooting for you! Let me know if you have more questions about the diet. I'd love to help. Send me a PM with some pics if you don't want to post them here.

I totally agree with Nathan. I am 5’ 11” and I was just over the 300lbs. mark myself. I have since lost 100lbs. and am dealing with the stretch marks and excess skin that comes with being that size, so I know exactly what you’re talking about. Though I may not have that “Beach Body” yet, I look fantastic with clothes on. LMAO!!!!

As Nathan said, we didn’t put all that weight on over night, and we can’t expect to lose it that way either. I said the same as you in my thread, “I’m getting impatient with my results,” but when I look back, I’m so much farther than I was. Also, you are in better shape then you were yesterday, and you will even be in better shape tomorrow than today. Keep pushing and posting and soon we too can look like Nathan, or at least come close. LOL! Good luck!

Nathan:

Thank you for your encouragement. I keep forgetting that 80 lbs in the span of 5 months is a huge deal. It took a lot of hard work and very strict dieting to get here. It's hard to remember that to get to the next level (body definition) is going to take more hard work. I think I'm going to repeat another round of Insanity after this one. The way I lost 80 lbs in 5 months was a very strict 1000 calorie diet, consisting mostly of fruits and vegetables, brown rice and beans. I think, with the weight loss I've experienced, I'm ready to come off of this diet. But I'm addicted to the concept of low calories = weight loss, while everything I hear on this site is that you have to fuel your body. I'm going to bump up my calories and come off this diet and follow the Insanity nutrition guide to the T. I was modifying it to fit into my dietary requirements with what has worked for me. I added protein shakes, but I think even then I'm lucky to be getting up to 1200 calories per day. I need to stop being addicted to low calorie quick fixes.

Enigma:

Thank you for your kind words. It's so easy to get impatient when you look at the results and success stories. But then again coming from a guy who was drastically out of shape before starting this, getting into shape isn't going to be simple, easy, or instant. I want to tell that gentleman in the P90x commercials that he's my main motivation. The one who started out at 347 lbs and lost it all and got ripped after 5 rounds of P90x. It took him a whole year to get where he is. I have a feeling, for guys like you and I, we're going to need to do a few rounds of these beach body programs to get the ripped bodies we see on the infomercials.

Onintwo, you look amazing. But I don't think you needed Insanity. If anything I'd stick to P90X to try and put some more muscle on your frame. I think Insanity is more for cutting fat, whereas P90 is more of a balance of cardio/muscle strengthening. Or even a solid weight lifting program in conjunction with Insanity(first month of the prgram)would be good. Rock on dude. You look great.

@rrrobd: Thanks for commenting man. No doubt, Insanity is perfect for cutting fat with all the intense cardio that is involved. Although I was able to achieve some pretty good results from the X, I knew deep down that for me to truly be fit, I needed Insanity in a serious way. I have always hated all forms of cardio unless it involved a basketball so I was scared to death of starting this program. Looking back, I am so glad I did. I was tempted to skip Insanity and just do another round of the X or go right into the hybrid. I am going to get so much more out of my upcoming X-Sanity hybrid after doing each program all the way through one time.

I'm definitely guilty of vanity at times but I was not overly concerned with packing on more muscle mass. I wanted to get ultra lean and flexible for golf and just overall fitness. Now I am ready to start working on building up my arms and chest to new level while trying to stay flexible and strong through my core.

@TNM: In my opinion, you are definitely going to need to up your caloric intake to get through Insanity. Following the Elite Nutrition Plan is a great idea but I would suggest watching the carb intake by limiting yourself to around 100g of carbs a day. I am so impressed that you stuck to brown rice, beans, and fruits/veggies for as long as you did but I think you can move on to eating real food that tastes great and gives you the right fuel. Again, there is nothing wrong the Elite nutrition plan but I would recommend cutting out all starchy carbs (rice, even brown rice, breads, even whole grains) and get your carbs from veggies, an occasional piece of fruit, plenty of lean meats, and nuts for snacks. We can talk more through email (averill94@hotmail.com) about the specifics.

Lastly, I thought I would share a quick picture of my starting point 6 months ago. I've said it before, how the human body can be transformed like this in such a short time is mind-blowing to me. Glory to God for giving us the ability to make lifestyle changes that produce such dramatic results. We are all blessed!
