I will be starting my first round soon, and decided to join you and start on the 1st as well. Let's do it!

I'm 6 ft 1, 157 lbs. I'm in pretty good cardio shape, as I either bike or play tennis almost everyday, but I am skinny and I am looking to gain some strength and muscle. Plus, a couple of my friends joined the marines and showed me up with their 6 packs and guns at the pool this summer, haha.

Anyways, I'm going to do my best, but realized that this is a great resource to get advice and encouragement, so here goes.

I was going to say good, luck, but I'm sure it will be determination not luck that yeilds our results. emoticon

Congrats on making the commitment to start! Yes, you are correct - determination to stick with it will be the most difficult part.

Are you going to do Classic/Lean/or Doubles? Have you received the set to read up on it yet? I found myself reading/reading/re-reading to get prepared.

I plan on doing Classic, i mostly want to gain muscle not lose weight. I'm not sure what I'm going to do for nutrition yet. I have read in some other threads that I will have to be eating a lot in order to gain mass. I think I will just try to eat what I think I need for the first few weeks and see how that goes, and change accordingly. The other thing I am not sure about are supplements, but I will probably go without for the first bit and see how everything goes.

Lots of people use online websites like fitday & thedailyplate to track everything they eat. I use a spreadsheet just because I don't always want to log online to check my nutrition. I started my first round by using the portion plan. Then - when I actually bought a kitchen scale I found out I was way off on my protein portions. Then I started putting everything onto the spreadsheet to see if my ratios (protein/carb/fat - 50/30/20 for FatShredder) were correct. I found out that my 1st 2 weeks were chaos then got them all straigtened out with a scale and the spreadsheet.

Alright, thanks for the tips.

I think I mostly need to focus on getting lots of protein and carbs. The calculation of body fat in the packet says I am at about 7 percent so, I'm pretty lanky. I may post some initial pics so that i will will be held accountable for my results, it should be a good motivation to work hard. Plus, it may help you in advising me with nutrition and supplements.

You are right - focusing on your nutrition is key to your success, just as much as the workouts themselves. Yes, pics will definitely help you watch your progress. Take them from all angles and versions. Also be sure to take your measurements before starting. Changes in your measurements can also be a huge motivator.

OK - counting down........is everyone ready? I did Classic my 1st round. I'm trying to gear myself up for doing Doubles this round. I figure that I have the entire 1st month to get prepared (mentally). Really looking forward to seeing what FatShredder nutrition in Phase1 can do.
cwe - if you are already lean, you may want to consider another option for starting (vs FatShredder). Or if you decide to give it a try, just listen to your body. It will tell you if you aren't getting enough carbs.

Re-checking my nutrition spreadsheet getting ready to start. I'm going to really shoot for hitting the right protein/carb % ratios on P1. Can't wait for that 1st workout - I might be saying something different the next day when I can't lift my arms emoticon

Hello, My name is Bridget. 41 years old.
This time last year I was running (albeit slowly) 5ks. However, last fall I got a desk job with VERY long hours, and have gained 7 lbs over the last year, have lost ALL my muscle tone (was never BUFF to begin with), and have become very sedentary.

When my clothes started getting tight, and the bathing suit started not to look so good, I realized I had to do SOMETHING, or risk becoming old and fat very quickly.

I've heard nothing but GREAT things about P90X, and have been reading lots of the message boards, so ordered it this past Monday, 7.26. I figure I'll receive my package early next week (hopefully sooner)..

I'm SOOOOO ready, but also extrememly terrified. And genuinely a newbie to the program.

I'd love to join up with you all, because I know I will need motiviation and guidance through the rough spots and the unknowns...

Bree - welcome! Your story sounds very familiar to me ;-) Congratulations on making the commitment to yourself. These message boards are very helpful to answer your questions/accountability/& general support.

If it makes you feel any better, I too was terrified before starting. Check out my Bio and you'll see how long I was terrified. All though it will be hard - you can do it. Especially if you have done 5K's before. I think you'll love it.

Glad to have you with us,
Missi

Hi Missi!!

Bree - I was pretty scared when I started P90X too! But, I did it. Not perfect, couldn't do some stuff, still can't do a pull-up unassisted, but you know what? I completed it!! I got results, not what I was wanting, but that was my fault. Trying to get my nutrition part worked out. It's a great program and will work!

Missi - can you put a subscribe thing on there so we can subscribe to the thread?

Hey Renee - thanks for coming over to start again with us! I put the "subscribe" on - let me know if it worked for you (I'd never done that one before - so thanks for the reminder).

Getting super excited to start! I felt like I really fumbled around when I started. Partially because I was afraid to ask people too many questions. So, anyone 'lurking' on this thread and not posting, you better join in! Go ahead and ask your questions, post your thoughts, there is always someone here to help.

Renee - I hear ya on the nutrition. I know for a fact that I basically wasted my 1st 3 weeks in that part. I probably got it right 50% during that time. So I'm excited to see what goes on during FatShredder on P1. I think I've got a bit more flab to loose so hopefully I can stick with it w/o bonking. We'll see.

Missi

Missi - Nope subscribe thing didn't work.

I'm planning on doing the FatShredder again. My biggest problem is me and planning. It's going to be crucial this time around. Since school starts in a months (DD13 and me), all her activities, job, & life in general - if I don't plan well this time, I'll end up doing what I did last time. Flying by the seat of my pants and ending up eating protein bars and quick stuff.

Told hubby this morning I'm not buying anymore crap to keep in the house. He said I'd like in on that. It was all I could do to not hit him! emoticon Crap for me is cereal (even healthy kind), always overeat on it and healthy snacky foods. I haven't bought his crap for a long time. DD13 eats Oreos, but she'll make a package last about 2 months! So, for him to say that ???? What is he thinking?? Anyway, told him it's gonna be a lot of chicken, veggies, etc. He gets tired of chicken very fast. Told him I'm gonna be trying to eat 5 small meals a day, not snacks and meals. So, we'll see how it goes. In 2 weeks he's leaving for Sturgis, I'll be surprised if it lasts that long. If ya can't guess this topic in our house always makes me angry. I always feel like I'm beating my head against the wall!

Hi all,

I would like to join in if you all don't mind.

This will technically be my 3rd round, but I lost about 3 weeks on round number 2 due to a vacation. The first two times were doing the classic program. This time I want to do lean just to mix it up and build up my cardio. I am pretty good about making my exercise goals, but I suck at diet. As a matter of fact I don't diet so I have had good results but not much weight lose on the program.

Anyways I will start on the 1st and see how it goes. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Cheers!

Hey Ex! Glad to see you over here for a new round of X! What are your goals for this round? You are such a veteran by now you probably have it all figured out. If I recall you had quite success at your last round (even w/a 3wk vacation)- loosing inches in the mid-section in particular. ??

Renee - I must be a "thread posting moron". I can't seem to find how to do that. I'll email you separately.... Regarding eating - I have to get rid of ALL cereal prior to P1 eating. I sure ate enough during P3 and it was wonderful ;-) Chicken is chicken, period. But you really can't beat the oz/protein ratio it provides so I just grin & bear it. I do buy a lot of frozen fish to mix up thru the week. Plus, fish doesn't take as long to thaw out.

My weakness right now is fruit. I have a huge blackberry patch and probably eat about 4+cups a day! Wonder if I considered 1 serving "1cup pureed berries" then I'm probably only eating 1 cup a day. Plus, I figure that if I'm eating them while picking in 100 deg weather and sweating to death, whatever I eat while picking doesn't count. Luckily the season should only last about another week.

Nutrition: I'm a vegetarian, so I'm a bit concerned about getting enough protein while still keeping the carbs low. At least in Phase 1. Generally, anything that is vegetarian AND high in protein, is also high in carbs (except egg whites. emoticon

Miss, I hope you do not feel guilty for eating blueberries. They are NATURAL and WONDERFULLY healthy for you. You could probably cut some carbs elsewhere to make up the difference.

so my first dilemma.. I expect to have my dvds by early next week; however, the week of 8/9 I'll be at the beach for vacation. I'm not so much worried about sticking to the nutrition part, but I don't want to set myself up for failure by "planning" on Pressing Play all week, and than NOT doing it..

But on the other hand, I'M READY TO start NOW!!! I don't want to wait two whole weeks before starting...

Any suggestions? Thoughts?

Hey Bree - I counted last Saturday as my Day 1, but the week before was kind of an exercise / recovery week for me after doing P90 Circuit 3/4 for 6 wks straight.

I didn't want to let go too much though. So what I thought to do was to watch the Classic Day 1 - 7 videos, then do Day 1, 2 and 3 at like 70-80% of intensity just to get used to those routines. I took Friday completely off and went 100% on Saturday.

Maybe once you get the DVD's you could do something similar...? Just a thought. It worked nicely to help me be that much more coordinated with the pace of the routines and yet at 70% or so, I wasn't fully taxed either, if you get my drift.

Good luck!

Rich
