My Husband and I are completing our 1st round of P90X on the 10th and will be starting a P90X/One on One/Insanity hybrid program on October 11th (Columbus Day). Come join us for some added motivation!! Beginners and Alumni are always welcome emoticon

I am have been in the banking industry for 10 years, but my real passion is helping people reach their health and fitness goals! I am currently in the process of obtaining my L.E.A.N certification in nutrition and will be working on a Personal Training certification soon after.

My husband and I love P90X and the Beachbody Community and wouldn't have had the transformation that we did without the help and guidance of some wonderful, inspiration people right here on the boards. It's time for me to pay it forward.

I am here to help!! Let's bring it together for the next 90 days and beyond!!!

MY P90X TOP 10

1.Don’t let the 1st week determine what you’re made of. A lot of people feel defeated after the first couple of workouts because they aren’t lifting the weights they want or finishing the workouts. Make it your goal to improve every week, even if you only do one more push up!
2.You will be sore, that is, if you bring it like you’re supposed to! Take care of those sore muscles by fueling them appropriately. The Recovery drink is an awesome postworkout drink.
3.Push play every day, even if you don’t feel like it. There were some days where I just didn’t feel like working out, but I never EVER regretted pushing play.
4.Follow the program the way it was intended. This program works guys! Trust that it will work for you and give yourself a realistic timeframe to start seeing results. For example, it is not realistic to have a six pack after your first week. I really started seeing a difference around day 45. Others may have noticed a change around day 30 or 60. Everyone is different, so don’t be too hard on yourself. Want to liberate yourself completely? Throw your scale away!! Best decision I ever made for myself.
5.Learn to love Yoga. It is a VERY important part of this program and should NOT be skipped. Yoga will help stretch your muscles and protect them from injuries, while helping you become more flexible and balanced.
6.Utilize these boards for extra motivation. I have met so many amazing and inspirational people through the Beachbody Community. If it wasn’t for my husband and my Beachbody friends, I wouldn’t have made the transformation that I did! Now, I am continuing my journey with a P90X/Insanity hybrid that I LOVE. Also, take your before, 30, 60, and 90 day pictures and POST them for the world to see! Is it embarrassing at first? Yes, but I guarantee you that your fellow beachbody friends will notice changes in your body that you won’t. We are always our worse critics. Finally, we are all assigned a coach when we first sign up. Your coach should reach out to you and guide you through this process. You can always change coaches if you find one that you connect with better by e-mailing beachbody and requesting the switch.
7.Don’t expect to see results if you are not fueling your body right. Nutrition is 80% of the fight. If want to see amazing results, then you must start eating clean NOW and follow the P90X nutrition guide. I have a lot of experience with nutrition and am currently working on a L.E.A.N. certification. If you have any questions, let me know!
8.Don’t look at this as a 90 day program. Instead, look at this as a lifestyle change. My hope for you is that you fall in love with the program like so many of us do and will continue well after you complete your 1st round.
9.Listen to your body. If you pull a muscle or injure yourself, modify the workouts until you are back to 100%. Tony always says that if the bottom half is broke, work the top half!
10.Have fun! Don’t take yourself too seriously. You WILL look funny doing superman/banana….we all do. I even videotaped my first attempt at real pull-ups around day 60 and I am glad I did. I not only did 1 pullup, I did 2…..and now I have proof emoticon

Hey Everyone,

For those of you who don't know me, I'm Dana's husband. Even though I have not posted previously, I have been reading all the posts, and really want to thank everyone for your inspiration. No matter who you are, everyone has the occasional day where you really, REALLY don't want to work out. But these boards are a great source of motivation to us all, and I look forward to getting to know everyone better.

We are just wrapping up the final week of P90X (Round 1), and really excited to kick off this hybrid next week. As Dana has mentioned, we have already given INSANITY a little "test drive", and oh man.... I need a recovery drink just thinking about it! emoticon

I think we're up for the challenge though, so if you're just starting your first round, third round, or tenth round, feel free to come along for the ride.

WOW I just finished up Total Body+ for the first time in a long time. For a 40 minute workout that's awesome. Got a great sweat, burned off a bunch of calories.

Brett - Welcome to the boards! I know you've been lurking with Dana's posts for the last 90 days, great to see you out here with us as well!

I'm a sweaty mess, need a shower and have to get back to the airport!

Hey guys! I was looking for a group starting P90X next week and came across this thread. I will be starting my first time with P90X on 10/10/10. I chose to start on Sunday because I work 16-20 hour days on saturdays through November so I would like my Saturdays as a rest/stretch day.

I just finished Power 90 yesterday and will be using this week as a recovery as well as completing the fitness test. I saw awesome results with Power 90 losing 30 lbs and 6 inches off my waistline. I am eager and looking forward to the next level!

I like your top 10 list. I definitely found the beachbody community to be a great place to stay motivated. I kept up with a group of people doing Power 90 with me and it was extremely motivating to help me reach day 90. I am looking for the same thing with P90X because I know that it is going to be difficult.

Still waiting on the yoga mat and recovery formula. Should be here Saturday! Can't wait till the first workout!

Hey guys,

Dana and I finished Core Synergistics tonight. For some reason, I don't remember sweating nearly as much last time... must be selective memory.emoticon

FitMaestro - welcome aboard! You already have one program under your belt with GREAT results, so I am excited to see you "bring it" this round as well.

One piece of advice though: definitely take pictures before starting on Sunday. If you follow P90X to a tee, you WILL gain muscle mass (and with that mass should come some weight). Some people get discouraged when they initially see the scale start to go the other direction, but the proof is in the pictures my friend...

Brett

I am definitely taking pictures. I took pics with P90 and I am glad I did because I like SEEING my progress rather than seeing it on the scale. The last 30 days of P90 I didn't lose much weight but there was a huge difference in pictures.

I've been reading through the nutrition guide and see that my current eating plan is very close to the eating plan in the P90X guide book. I need to increase my protein and decrease my carbs a little bit for the first phase but I think I can do that. I can't wait till sunday!! I'm ready to bring it!

Last night was Core Synergistics and like Brett said, I was surprised at how sweaty I was. I definitely felt like my core was stronger than the last time I did this routine. I think I have Insanity to thank for that!
Last night I had a work event to go to and didn't have time to make dinner after working out so Brett blended up a Shakeology drink and I drank it on the way to the event. It definitely gave me the energy that I needed to get through the event and made me feel amazing! I will be purchasing monthly supplies of this for sure! I also saw that you can make recipes with the mix
This morning I cycled for 45 minutes. I hadn't been able to do that yet this week, so it felt amazing to start my day off right. I wish I could do that every morning!
Tonight we are going to do a mix of KenpoX and Insanity Plyo Circuit. We will definitely be dripping with sweat after this workout. CAN'T WAIT!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FitMaestro I saw your before and after pictures through your profile. GREAT JOB! You can't definitely tell a huge difference especially in your midsection. I can't wait for you to start seeing results from P90X. It's so addicting! I'll post my before and after pictures sometime next week when we finish out first round.
Out for now,
Dana
I am psyched about the finish line... and mostly because it ISN"T a finish line, This program has been one hell of an accomplishment and a commend anyone who sticks with it, and this really is the door opening to a whole new world a health, fitness, and life in general!
Dana and Derek, I am very excited to be continuing this journey and adventure with you!
and Dana GREAT top 10 for any one getting started on this program.
Hey guys & gals,
I would like to follow this group. Actually I am in my 2nd week of my first round of P90X. I am a 48 and not really into working out but am into the DVD's so far. My plan was to start with the 10 Minute Trainer then go to P90 then to P90X. So I bought a copy of the 10 Minute Trainer at a 'AS SEEN ON TV' store but suspected the package. I didn't open it for awhile and when I did I noticed I was probably short 2 DVD's so when I brought it back I figured I would have to exchange it and P90X was my only choice. So I am a 'fish out of water' right now. I usually like to finish what I start with the exception of exercise programs so I am hoping that joining a group will help. I also have a friend doing P90X for at least the 2nd time and am trying to get advice from him.
I picked this group mainly because of Dana's top 10 list in particular #7. Food is a big downfall for me. I like sweets and soda and am now trying to get to one Carb a day plus one fruit as according to Phase 1 meal plan. I am looking for good tasting soda replacements, not a big fan of diet soda's. I am finding that I am hungrier than usual with the workouts. Eating Turkey Jerkey, Turkey bacon, almonds, and cheese sticks so far plus regular meals. Any advice for Phase 1 is much appreciated.
As far as the exercises go I made it thru week 1 alive. I actually really like the Kenpo X and made it thru it. I also like the Plyo X but haven't completed that one yet. Tonight is Arms again. Looking forward to following this group.
Thanks,
Allen
Hey everyone,
I got up today and plowed through P90X Interval X+. Great workout, especially for early in the morning. It's not quite on par with Insanity but still a great sweat. I'll be doing this week at less than 100% and calling it a recovery week so I can start my Phase II with everyone on Monday.
Allen - Welcome to the group. Just be aware that the copy you got of P90X (and TMT) at As Seen on TV is a bootleg. That's ok, you didn't know that buying it, but Beachbody doesn't allow any of their products to be sold at retail establishments. Please don't take that as a criticism, just letting you know that if you want something in the future, please order it directly from Beachbody. You're on a good road, though you may struggle if you don't feel P90X ready. When you have to modify any moves, do that. Work your way a little further every week through PlyoX until you're getting through it all the way. Dana is probably the resident nutrition expert here, so I'll defer to her on snack choices. For me I eat way way way too many protein bars and shakes.
Matt - Great having you here too! Hopefully more of the 7/11 team will come over and join in (as well as more new folks).
Dana - good to see you through the wall you'd hit! Even after 7 full Rounds of P90X or hybrids there of, and 2 of Insanity, I still end up soaked and wasted after an Insanity workout!
FitMaestro - I'm going to have to check out your pics as well.
Allen Hi there and welcome! I'm glad you liked my Top 10. I will be adding another Top 10 for nutrition, so be on the lookout for that. Nutrition is one of my definite passions, so I'm glad we found each other! It will take time for you to nail it, but for some people, it's easier to press play than to stop drinking cola! If you want this bad enough, you can do it. Remember, if it was easy....everyone would be doing it!
As far as snack options, there are ENDLESS clean snack options out there. I love snacking on carrots & hummus, apples & natural nut butter, homemade protein bars (I have many good recipes), cocoa almonds or other plain nuts such as walnuts, pecans, etc. I also love cottage cheese and fruit. Just Tomatoes, Etc. is a company that makes dried fruit and does not add ANY sugar or other ingredients. It's just dehydrated fruit, period. I have a book called Nutripoints that ranks certain foods with points in each food group. I find mine in Fresh Market and an organic store called Naturally Yours. I can also give you tips on which fruits, vegetables, etc are better for you than others and help you determine what you should pair together and when you should eat certain foods. I'm all about clean, natural, good-for-you food, which will fuel your body for your workouts and make you feel great all day long emoticon
Matt Can't wait for you to start with us! Your energy is just what we need on this board.
Derek I destroyed the KenpoX/Insanity Pure Cardio combo that I did tonight! Icing the shin now as we speak emoticon
RE: 10/11-Throw the Krispy Kremes Away and Start P90X on Columbus Day!
10/6/10 4:59 PM as a reply to fitchickcoach.
Ok Allen, you got me all fired up on nutrition, so here are 10 things that I live by and think every one should know:
1.I have been eating the same bread for almost 2 years now thinking that it was healthy. I read where you should be eating whole grain bread and to not be fooled by psuedo "healthy" bread. The first ingredient should be Whole Grains. A lot of the "Whole Grain" breads out there list the first ingredient as whole wheat flour. These breads will also most likely list molasses as an ingredient which shows that the bread was just dyed and is not truly whole grain bread. Ezekial bread is a GREAT option. I LOVE their sprouted grain english muffins.
2. The big conglomerates out there are only out to make money. They are not looking out for the best interest of the consumer. The statement made above about whole grain bread is a GREAT example of this. You have to look out for yourself if you truly want to eat clean and live a healthy lifestyle! Want some great examples? Watch Food Inc, or Supersize Me. It will change the way you view the food industry and food itself forever.
3. I used to have a cup of coffee in the morning and a Sugar Free Red Bull in the afternoon. If you are fueling your body with the right foods and exercising, then your body does not need the caffeine! Stay hydrated because water is nature's natural energy booster. I no longer have any need for caffeine and have cut it out of my diet. I do allow myself one caffeinated drink on the weekend as a little treat to myself
4. Squeeze some lemon in your water. Lemon is a natural bile thinner and bloat minimizer. Cucumber is also a great addition to water!
5. Just Tomatoes, Inc is a company that makes dried fruits and vegetables. Most companies will dehydrate the fruit and then add a bunch of sugar to it. Not sure why when fruit already contains natural fructose and is sweet enough! Just Tomatoes, Inc makes organic dried fruits and vegetables and doesn't add a thing! They are great in recipes or on their own!
6. I buy organic olive oil, but find it hard not to pour too much when I'm using it to cook. I found a device that works as a spray bottle. You pour the olive oil in, pump it a few times, and voila! This allows me to regulate the amount of oil I use, eliminating unnecessary calories. I found this device at Bed Bath and Beyond.
7. Spice it up! Spices are a great way to boost your metabolism. Some of my favorites are adding cinnamon to bananas, putting chili powder or cayenne pepper on chicken or turkey, and putting tabasco sauce on scrambled egg whites. Mrs. Dash has a lot of spice combinations and they are sodium free!
8. Refined sugar is the devil. It makes you fat, wrinkles your skin, causes diabetes (if consumed in excess), etc etc. I watched a show on TLC last night about a young girl who drinks 30 cans of regular soda a day. Needless to say that her blood tests proved that she was prediabetic and on a road to complete destruction. This is an excessive case, but try to stay away from the white stuff as much as possible!
9. Watch out for deli meats. I know they are convenient, but a lot of them have nitrates and other nasty stuff. There are a few good brands out there: Boar's Head and Emil's are definitely two of them, but make sure you stick to their natural line.
10. Drink Shakeology! Even if you use it to replace a few meals a week, it will make you feel amazing! It gives you energy and helps you plow through that afternoon slump. I love love love Shakeology!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You don't need to make every single one of these changes, but you owe it to yourself to try and make small changes each and every day. Your body will thank you in so many ways, I promise emoticon

Thanks Derek and Dana --- Now I am more fired up than ever to eat healthy and continue the P90X journey. Derek you are right I had no idea about the As Seen on TV stores, I thought they bought multiple copies for a discount then sold them individually. Of course everything looks legit or I never would have bought it. I will look to Beachbody for all future purchases. Thanks also for the advice on PlyoX.

Dana --- Thanks for the snack tips and Nutrition List. I do have carrots in the rotation, looking forward to the homemade protein bar recipes and looking forward to finding cocoa almonds (sounds good). I also like cottage cheese, I should have put that on my list. My wife went out and loaded up on lots of the other things. She is great, gotta get her interested in P90X. I am all for any of the tips you want to send me.
Now to your list.
#3 I'll work on this one and I don't even drink coffee for the caffeine.
#4 my wife also likes lime. My question here is, is it ok to add Stevia or Splenda to make the lemon water lemonade?
#7 looking forward to trying cinnamon with bananas --- sounds good
#8 & #9 scary
#10 I would like to try it although it is expensive. I thought I read somewhere about someone trying samples. I don't like the taste of most of the whey protein shakes I've tried therefore I am very cautious about trying it.

Thanks again for the tips and advice. Keep them coming.

Dana, good to see that you've started up "your" group! Your tips and motivation were certainly a real highlight in the group that is just now finishing up.

Today is my Day 1, so I'll be a few days ahead. In the grand scheme of things, that doesn't mean diddly so I'd like to be part of this group.

My 11 year old son, Evan, joined up with me as I was doing Chest & Back this evening and he had a lot of fun! He definitely embodies "do your best and forget the rest". He couldn't do everything of course, but that's not the focus.

Looking forward to seeing everyone bring it!
