HERE'S MINE!

STARTING WEIGHT: 266 CURRENT WEIGHT: 195

Need I say more???

As many others that I've met here thus far, I am a former athlete turned couch potato that found the fire once again to get myself back into shape. I could only use my knee surgery (from 2006) as an excuse for so long. I refused to pose in pictures with my girlfriend because I was humiliated by the way that I looked. I refused to go shopping because I knew I would have to buy a pair of size 40 pants, so instead I wore my size 38's until they could walk on their own! One morning, my coworker challenges me to a bet. Who can lose the most weight in 30 days? Never one to back down from a challenge, I accept. Eight months later and there's no looking back. My goal went from simply losing weight, to getting healthy, to now getting myself into the BEST shape of my life! I never would have thought that ABS were a possiblity. I do now. Do YOU??

I know that the time is NOW. If you're like me, you've made excuses for years. If you're reading this, you're that much closer to changing your life. Or maybe you already have. Have YOU made the decision???

As for my Beachbody journey, I completed 30 days of Power 90 as a warm up, followed by a full round of P90X and INSANITY. I just finished a P90x/Insanity Hybrid and LOVED every day of it! Thus far, I've lost over 70 lbs, and over 18% body fat and that continues to improve daily. My goals are to hover around 190 lbs, and get down to 8%-10% body fat.

I FIRMLY believe that if you have changed your life in the ways that I have, that you undoubtedly had some support along the way. I believe it is my responsibility to pay it forward and use my knowledge, encouragement, and resources to help others find their DREAMS the way that people have helped me. I am fortunate to have found people on these boards who share the same common goals and beliefs, and believed in me when I wasn't sure I believed in myself.

I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!

So, if you're ready to change your life... If you've already begun your journey... If you desire to help others the way that others have helped you... Or if you just want to connect with people who understand the way you're feeling today... ASK ME HOW! Nothing would make me happier than to help others achieve the success that I have seen myself.

This week begins yet another round for me. Again I'm incorporating P90X - Insanity - and this time I'm adding P90X:MC2!

WILL YOU JOIN ME? I want you to keep me accountable. I want to be accountable to YOU! Are you starting this week? Month? Year?? Do you want to be part of a team who will support you no matter where you're starting from? Folks, this isn't just about fitness, it's about LIFE!

Let's build a team that INSPIRES others not only with our words, but with our LIVES. So... I want to know...

WHAT'S YOUR STORY??

Thanks for reading, and thanks for your support! Keep Pushing Play, continue to BRING IT, and remember to DIG DEEPER!

So there's the old me. Almost 270 lbs and miserable. About to burst out of my beloved Cubs jersey that continued to grow tighter and tighter each season. The only thing more depressing than the way I look is the way the Cubs make me feel every year! emoticon

The next picture is me - PROUDLY representing in my P90X tshirt! - after finishing a TRIATHLON in August. You see folks, anything is possible. I am the proof. Now I want to continue my journey and help as many others as I can along the way. But in order to do that, I need your help too! Let's build a team that thrives off of each other for support in fitness, nutrition, and LIFE!

Are YOU with me??

Great article about how to minimize mistakes and maximize your results!!

Fail to Plan & You've Planned to Fail

In today's world we are always rushing, which leaves little time to eat a regular meal. Here are a few helpful ideas - such as planning, how often to eat, etc. - to help you on your way to a healthier lifestyle!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By: Jamie Eason

Your alarm goes off at 6 AM every week day morning. You hit the shower, quickly dry your hair and get dressed before making a mad dash for the door. Once again you have no time for breakfast and at your 8 AM meeting the donuts and danishes begin to beckon until you finally cave in. Sound familiar?

Always Rushing

In today's world we are always rushing, which leaves little time to eat a regular meal. Morning comes and you are lucky to grab a cup of coffee, lunch time consists of fast food while catching up on emails, and by late afternoon you find yourself snacking on sugary snacks and empty calories from the vending machine.

Finally, at dinner, you opt for a quick bowl of cereal or a frozen dinner before positioning yourself in front of the TV to finally unwind. Sadly, as you reflect on your day, remembering the foods you ate, you rationalize that you only had about 3 meals and you never really pigged out, so it could have been worse.

News flash! Your diet stinks! You are destroying your metabolism and sabotaging much needed energy. After a day like that, with such poor food choices, you can forget about staying motivated to work out. You are setting yourself up to fail if you do not learn to plan ahead.

Planning Ahead

Any time you do something profound in life, to really create change, you make a plan. You don't go into a business presentation to land the biggest deal of your career without planning. If you move from city to city, generally, you have a plan.

We plan weddings as well as vacations, so why not plan your meals to make healthy changes? Designate a day to do your grocery shopping for the week. It may take 15 - 20 minutes to plan a menu and up to an hour at the grocery store, but make time and make it a routine.

Grocery Shopping:

Make a shopping list that includes healthy breakfast options such as quick cooking oats, corn tortillas for breakfast tacos, and Ezekiel bread with natural peanut butter. Load up on protein like eggs, which you can hard boil for easy packing, fat free string cheese, fat free cottage cheese, nuts and a good low calorie, low sugar protein powder.

Celery and natural peanut butter are a great option to curb mid-day hunger pains. Ideally, plan small meals to pack for the day and get your body into the routine of eating every 3 or 4 hours. This will get your body into a rhythm, aid in controlling hunger pains, and most of all, help your metabolism.

Do not become a slave to calorie counting, but be aware of portion control. When eating 5 - 6 times a day, instead of your usual 2 or 3, you will likely be able to resist the urge to binge. However, we are all only human, so that means that in times of stress or fatigue, when we are in need of a "pick me up", you must be prepared with healthy options on hand.

Eating for optimum health is like a marathon, you have to set a pace and stick with it to reach your goal. Slack off too much and you will never get there. Make it a sprint by going too hardcore and you will burn out before you reach the finish line.

Day By Day

Take it day by day and make fixing your eating habits a priority. The benefits you will experience will touch other areas of your life, perhaps motivating you to maintain your exercise routine or at the very least, encourage you to get out and enjoy your friend and family more.

Wow amazing and kudos to you for making that step- I am so happy that I have joined this wonderful community. Being able to log onto Beachbody every day and hear stories like yours is what helps to keep me motivated. Mother of one who gained 80 pounds and went on numerous diets and programs off and on in almost 6 years I made the decision once my son started kindergarten that enough was enough and I needed to lose this post baby weight once and for all and get healthy; now in three weeks with the help of Shakeology and HHA I have lost 12 pds. I work out 6 days a week every day it is an hour at the gym and an hour with Shaun T pushing me to keep going. I am hoping to try other programs once I have finished HHA and I feel stronger and happier every day. Thank you for being another inspiring story! emoticon

BTW, I too had a knee injury that I suffered from and used that as an excuse not exercise but now I believe my knee is stronger that it has ever been.

Tried the new P90X:MC2 Shoulders and Arms 2 routine today!

Oh. My. Gawdddddddd.

I never thought I'd get a bigger PUMP than I did with Back & Biceps, but this one just blew it out of the water. The very first move is an inverted Pike Press where it feels like you're almost doing pike presses in a handstand! Some new moves in this routine, some familiar, and some variations of some that we've seen before. My personal favorite was a 6-motion shoulder fly. INTENSE!!!

There are a couple moves in which Tony uses a bench. You can definitely modify if you don't have one, which I do not. If any of you are trying this program for the first time and would like some advice on how to make it work for you, please ask!!

What workout are you doing today?

Thank you KY and C- I am def in weight loss motivation mode and it is easy to keep up now that I have people to help keep me motivated and Shakeology to help give me extra energy to get through my grueling 2 hours a day lol but it has been so worth it and I can't wait to get it all off. I am currently 220 now and I am hoping that I am able to reach at least 200 by Christmas if not less, it would be great not to have to hide from taking pictures for the first time in 6 years! I would love to have you both as buddies and keep you all updated on my journey. Thanks for the encouragement!

KY- I tackled Back and Bi today and just think Katie is a moron. ;) next time, just doing 'music and cues' -- give me the lowdown on that one on one- is it set up the same way as the X s and arms? that is my favorite upper body workout emoticon how long is that one on one?

Have a GREAT day!!!!

Hey!

Prebabymom - 20 pounds by Christmas will be a cakewalk! (But only if you don't eat too much cake! emoticon )Think about it, that's less than 2lbs per week, which is TOTALLY doable, especially when you're starting out! Thanks for the buddy request, and I can't wait to follow your journey!! Keep accountable on here, post your workouts every day and let us know if you have ANY questions!

Cherie - I think you will LOVE this new one on one. The format is a little different from the original Shoulders & Arms. In that one, you rotate three exercises twice, then move on. In this new one, you rotate two exercises three times before moving on. There are 4 total circuits. It's a cool format in that you do two HEAVY lifts three times, then move on to two lighter weight lifts three times. I used 15's, 10's and even 8's! Like I said though, its an AMAZING pump from this workout.

More later tonight after my MUCH needed massage!!

Thursday Morning = YOGA.

Now, I was one of those haters who never wanted to do Yoga when I first started P90X. "I'm a guy, I don't need to be flexible... I want to lose weight, Yoga won't help with that... I'll just substitute another video in there instead of Yoga..."

Well, after 3 rounds of Beachbody products, I can tell you first hand that YOGA WORKS!!! There are a couple of things to remember when it comes to Yoga's importance on Thursdays (Or whatever the 4th day of your workout week happens to be). First, Increasing flexibility decreases the chance of injury. Plain and simple. If you get hurt, you can't workout at all, so why not do everything you can to minimize the chances of that happening.

Yoga builds muscle! No... seriously!! You know when you first try yoga and your legs and arms are shaking? That's because you're using your tiny little stabilizer muscles that you have probably never used before! Building muscle = increased metabolism = weight loss!

Also, hopefully you know how important recovery is to your journey. Your muscles don't get bigger when you lift the weight. They get bigger while you REST! Yoga provides a relief for your body from the pounding it has gotten for the last few days. It's also why you do it TWICE during the P90X recovery weeks.

Back to the pounding tomorrow with INSANITY Upper Body Weight Training! One of my personal favorites! If anyone is interested in a copy of my hybrid, please don't hesitate to ask!

What workout are you doing today?

So I just got the new P90X:MC2 Base & Back in the mail. Has anyone tried this one yet? I've heard its just a MONSTER! From what I understand, it's a combination of Legs & Back and Plyo. The tagline? "This is the workout that brought Tony to his knees!"

Yikes.

Good Morning!!

MAN DOWN! MAN DOWN!!

Insanity Upper Body Weight Training this morning. Personally one of my favorite workouts. Then I threw in Cardio Abs afterwards....

First, lets back up a couple days. Wednesday's P90X:MC2 Shoulders & Arms session - I tweaked a little somethin somethin in my back. Seemed ok, a little pain, but I got a massage and that seemed to help. Fast forward to this morning. During the WARM UP of cardio abs, while doing the High Knee Twist, it POPPED again. Same exact spot. I fell over to the floor in pain. I even screamed! Laid there for about 5 minutes, attempted to get into C-Sit position to do cardio abs (I'm an idiot) and it just wasn't happening. It's still just hurting and spasming like crazy! For some reason it also feels like it's connected to my left bottom rib. Who knows, but it hurts!!

Cher - Perhaps you could chime in?? Any thoughts? Recommendations? Hot? Cold? Rest? Stretch?

Sara - Thanks for stopping by!! Great to see you! Still want to pick your brain a little more about Turbo!

Prebabymom - Look forward to hearing from you today! What is your workout of the day?

KEEP Bringing it people. Let's get this team moving and off to a great start!

WOW Ky, AWESOME pictures!

Hope it's ok that I chime in. Maybe you guys could help me out....

I am 30 years old, 5'3 and 130 pounds. 12 years ago (wow, was it really that long ago?) I graduated high school at 98 pounds. Got in a bad relationship and gained weight. Got married in 2005. In early 2006 I topped the scales at 160. Started weight watchers, got down to 150 and in May of 2006 got pregnant. Gained only 22 pounds with my pregnancy. Had my daughter Jan 31, 2007. Got back down to around 155 in the year and half after that. In November 2008 started going through a divorce. Good news, I am not a stress eater. Dropped 30 pounds in about 2 months, not in a good way. I was about 122 in the Fall of 2009. Since then, put on about 15 pounds, and in the last few months took a few pounds off.

My question is, what is the best way for me to get rid of these last 10 pounds? I would like to be at 120. I have Insanity, been messing around with that for about 4 months on and off. I also just got an elliptical last week. Would like to eat better, but I always seem short on time to "plan" food. The weight I want to lose is pretty much in my stomach (would REALLY like to get rid of the extra fat and tone that up). I know I need a higher protein diet. I need a good workout routine, something that doesn't take too much time, and a kick in the pants! I lost all motivation.

I ran my first 5k two weeks ago, in 40 minutes. My next one is next week Saturday and I feel so unprepared for it!

Is there someone that could suggest an Insanity/elliptical mix workout program? Or would that not make sense?

Ok, hope that wasn't too many questions....

Thanks!

-Holly

Holly! Welcome!!

Thanks so much for sharing your story! It's awesome to know where people are coming from in their journey! I'm such a huge believer that this is about peoples LIVES, not just about their workout and nutrition stats!

So as for your questions. Those 10 pounds are going to be all about your DIET. Sure, working out will help you "tone" up, but really, you need to burn the fat with the right foods. In terms of your workout, my personal suggestion is simply to pick ONE thing and stick to it daily. So, if you enjoy Insanity (my personal favorite!) then choose a day (How about this coming Monday?) and PRESS PLAY. Follow the calendar, and stick to the workouts. Schedule a time to do it every day. For me, I know if i don't do my workout first thing in the morning, it probably won't get done, so I'm up every morning at 6 to make sure I get my sweat on!

Most importantly though, stick to the diet! You don't need to follow the nutrition guide to a (Shaun) T to see results. BUT, choose some of your favorites from that guide and supplement those meals with other healthy foods. My favorites are anything QUICK I can cook in bulk and pack away for the week. Every Sunday night, I cook 5-6 chicken breasts and 12 hard boiled eggs so I know I have something to grab for a quick meal or snack. Don't stress too much over your ratios of protein and carbs. If you eat only good, clean foods, it wont make too much of a difference! Eat TONS of veggies, eat some fruit (only in the morning) and make sure you're eating 5-6 times per day, every 3 hours or so.

Here are some of my favorite QUICK food items: Cottage Cheese, greek yogurt, tuna fish in a can (in water), whole wheat english muffin with NATURAL peanut butter, handful of almonds (or walnuts, cashews, most nuts are good, try to get unsalted if possible). Those are just a few of my favorites.

Also, have you considered shakeology at all? It's a great 140 calorie MEAL that really tastes great and fills me up (and I'm a big guy!). The cost averages out to about $3.75 per serving, which if you think about it, is MUCH less than the cost of your average meal anywhere else! Let me know if youre interested in learning more about that.

Thanks again for checking in! Keep posting here so we can see how you're doing! Also, GOOD LUCK ON SATURDAY! From experience, a 5K is no joke, so you're doing a GREAT job!!

Hi!

I did legs and back this AM and now am 2/3 the way through Clean and pitch X. anything that isnt nailed down is going.

KY- Sorry re: the back!!! Its hard to say, my inclination is to tell you to lie on your stomach, do some gentle cobra stretching (like up dog) and ice or heat whatever you feel better with. I would say be careful w/ any bending or bend/twist and dont do ANYTHING that hurts- PERIOD!!

Holly! hi! KY has perfect advice. I think that adding in some WEIGHTS will help you too- and make sure you have healthy fat in your diet- it is essential to have that to keep your body operating like it should. TO really change your body- a weight program is necessary- too much cardio just doesnt cut it. I have been th ere, done that. I ran 6 miles a day every day when trying to lose baby weight- and the last 15 lbs woudl not come off until I did the X and when I dialed in my diet (more protein, more healthy fat, and more regular eating so I didnt get ravenous)

Keep bringing it everyone! emoticon

First - Thanks for all the advice! I really appreciate it.

Second - What is the X? Is that a weight program? If not, can you recommend a good one. I do not have any weight equipment currently, and not a whole lot of money to spend, but I would like to do something and do what I can.

Thanks again for all the help!
