want to do insanity, but will I lose muscle mass??
I have done a whole round of P90X, a hybrid of P90X and Insanity, the Cathe STS program with her STS Cardio series, and now I am doing another round of P90X/Insanity hybrid. I have always wanted to do a straight round of Insanity, but I'm afraid that I will lose some of the definition and toning in my upper body if I drop out the upper body weight workouts. However, I really want to lose another 5-6 pounds and lean up which Insanity seems suited best to help me do that... Any thoughts??

I do not have personal experience with this one, but I did see pics of a guy who did Insanity after P90X. Muscles were smaller, but overall definition and toning had improved. Also, a friend of mine did Insanity after P90X. He noticed that his strength decreased. For example, he was not able to do near the quantity of pullups he could while doing P90X.

You could Insanity and perhaps do a P90X workout in lieu of the recovery workouts. Another option is to add 10 minutes or so of weight related workouts after each Insanity workout.

Yeah--that's what I was thinking. I have worked so hard to get my reps up in pull-ups and push-ups, and I would hate to lose that progress--that being said, I am a 30 year old GIRL, so I'm not looking for crazy big muscles, but I definitely like the definition and tone that P90X has given to my upper body. Maybe I will just keep mixing up my hybrids of the two workouts. I can't wait for the next P90X to be released for another new challenge!

If you eat correctly, you should be able to not lose muscle. However, they could appear smaller because they will be leaner. Post X-ers, I think, have an INSANITY advantage because their muscles are so developed that the results kick in right way.

INSANITY (in my opinion) does lack the back workouts, so maybe supplement with some pull-ups etc.

Over all, I think doing a full (i.e. not hybrid) round of INSANITY will be good for you. It will work another slice of muscle confusion into your overall workouts. Then go back to do more P90X.

If you have not done INSANITY yet, be ready for an eye-opener. You might think you're in shape, but You may have to change your opinion :-)

Must re-emphasize the nutrition. Seems many folks do not eat enough with INSANITY. The amount of calories burned is ... insane. So you have GOT to eat a ton to fuel the workouts.

Whatever you choose... 'B R I N G I T'!!

yes you will lost muscle if you do a straight round of Insanity. But I have a solution.

If your schedule permits you can do your P90X workout followed by and Insanity workout. What happend is you will build the muscle during the P90X workout and then with your glycogen stores depleted you do your Insanity workout and you will be burning fat as fuel. You need to eat at a slight calorie deficit.
If time is a factor do 35 minutes of P90X workout....including the warmup, then 20-22 minutes of the Insanity workout followed by the cool down. (60 minutes total)
My buddy is a body builder (professional), and he says to limit the cardio to 20-30 minutes to prevent muscle loss.

Now the other thing that is good is HIIT Cardio. It's great for fat loss. I'm doing a Insanity / TF hybrid where I did 3 Insanity / 3 30 HIIT workouts per week. Lost about 5 the 1st 30 days but I don't appear to have lost any muscle mass.
Remember that the 1st month workouts are around 40 minutes with about 7 minute stretch and the 1st time thru the warmup is not real high intensity so I think the full workouts qualify me for 30 minutes or under.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice! I'm going to do Insanity with some back exercises thrown in. I am familiar with the challenge that Insanity is. In fact, I did Max Interval Circuit this morning. I'm also going to faithfully wear my GoWearFit (bodybug) to make sure I'm getting enough calories.
