TurboFire is KILLING my feet!
help hiit fitness shoes better shoes turbo fire help advice
11/11/10 6:33 AM
Ok, so I'm in week 3 I believe of TurboFire which I ADORE! Love, love, LOVE TurboFire. ...however, my feet & ankles do NOT love it right now.

My feet really hurt from all the jumping but I don't like doing it low impact. Don't feel like I get as good a work out. Also, my ankles REALLY hurt from it all as well.

I'm sure it's time for some new shoes, probably with EXTRA cushion.

Any suggestions? What do you guys use?

Thanks!

Suz...

What kind of shoes R U using now? Crosstrainers? If so, which kind?

It could be that U don't have enough cushion on ur floor during the HIIT workouts. Also, if ur wearing runners, that is DEFINITELY the problem!

I just got a new pair of Nike trainers. You definitely need a cross-training shoes specifically designed for aerobics with extra cushion and a flatter sole. Running shoes typically do not have enough of a cushion in the forfoot, too grippy, and have a raised heel. You want a low-profile shoe with more cushioning overall, especially in the forefoot. Nikes are known for their cross-training shoes. That is what they do best.

BAREFOOT!!

A few weeks into Insanity my feet were killing me. I tried new cross trainers. Insoles. Floor mats. Everything! Nothing worked. Until I read on the boards to try barefoot.

It's been about 5 months since I've been doing my workouts barefoot. I've had ZERO issues. Don't believe all the propaganda about the need for sneakers or cross trainers. Many studies have shown they do more harm than good.

Since going barefoot I finished Insanity and just last week finished a P90X/Insanity/RevAbs Hybrid. Give it a try. If you do give it a few days. At first it'll feel very weird but I promise over time you'll be glad.

I have to agree with the cross trainers. I got some Nkie's as well I Just got what was onsale at Soikrts Authority. ZThey are white with a lite blue check they work perfectly. I also have hard wood floors and I have not had any problem with my feet except for my instep in occaision but I think that has to with the way I lace the shoe. I started out in a runnung shoe but I wear a nuetral shoe so the cushion wasnt the issue the shoe didnt have enough support for th side to side stuff and my ankles were completely unsupported.

Make sure you are leaving the floor and landing on your feet properly. I know that when I'm jumping and I land wrong, it really hurts. So make sure you are leaving and landing softly and on your toes. =)

I hope this helps you!!

Coach LeeiaL,

Right now I do have running shoes! :x I have these: Nike Women’s Air Max Moto+ 6 Running Shoe.

I have very limited space to work out in. I work out in my TINY bedroom that does have carpet, however majority of the time I'm usually standing on a plastic office chair carpet protector.

I never would have thought that...I don't know why! I'm definitely going to look into some cross-trainers. THANKS FOR THE ADVICE!

BAREFOOT?!?!?! Really?! I totally just cringed when I read that, haha! I just feel like it's such a bad idea...especially for my already achy ankles!

NOT ruling it out though. I'll probably give it a try.
Thanks for the tip!

I was using older running shoes before too and I think the cross-trainers are definitely better. I can move a bit easier across the floor and the lower profile puts less pressure on the forefoot.

I've been wearing workout socks along with crosstrainers for the past few weeks and my foot pain is gone. Workout socks have more support and provide cushioning that regular cotton socks don't have.

I wear Bridgedale, they are amazing!

BAREFOOT for me too! I have done Insanity and I agree that my feet hurt if I wear shoes and not if I don't. So barefoot is what works for me, but everyone is different.

Sweetest,

When I first started TurboFire, my feet were also hurting very badly!!! I went out and got some good cross-trainers but it still took a couple more weeks after that before my feet stopped hurting. I am now in week five, and it wasn't until the beginning of week four that my feet finally stopped hurting. My point is, after you make sure you are wearing proper footwear, I think that it takes time for our feet to get used to TurboFire workouts, just like any other part of our bodies. There are little muscles, tendons and ligaments in our feet that have to get "toughened up," along with the rest of our body parts (ie, leg muscles, arm muscles, etc.) Thats just my two cent unscientific opinion. emoticon Hope your feet stop hurting soon!

Question - Chalene and most of the TF participants in the videos are wearing Nike Shox -- running shoes.

I would've thought Cross Trainers would be the best choice, too. That's what I've been wearing (Reebok - not sure what they're called exactly) and my legs/feet have been really hurting with the jumping during the HIIT workouts and fire drills. Really killing my motivation.

So - I've been thinking of buying a pair of Shox - anybody had luck with them during TF?

I've noticed that too & thought about buying them but I already had Nike running shoes that were KILLING my feet. I like the running shoes for the strength training classes but for the actual Fire / HIIT work outs...definitely go for Cross-Training shoes.

I tend to pronate and had no idea I was doing it till I went to a fitness shoe store and they watched me walk and jog. Had to get a high stability Brooks to stop the pronation and now my feet feel great. Plus I was doing TF on tile...needed to put down some aerobic flooring pads you can get on line...

I bought a pair of Nike Rockstars and they are working great for TF. They have extra shock absorbers under the heal and that has made a huge difference.
