P90X and Insanity at the same time.
Would it be advisiable to do my P90x workouts in the morning at 6am the later on in the day do an Insanity workout in the afternoon? So id be getting two workouts on or is that a bad idea. i wouldnt be doing the extra insanity everyday just like two or three times a week when i have the free time.

I think that's a bad idea. These are both elite workouts and they both demand recovery time. If you want to experiment with a hybrid, great, but limit the workouts to once a day.

I know you posted this a few months ago. I just started insanity yesterday and I as well was thinking of doing both, but actually right after each other. I work with a personal trainer and was planning on doing insanity after working with him. In the biggest loser kind of shows they workout 6 hours a day, so I don't see why not..... suggestions

I'm a certified personal trainer, and I'm telling you that's a horrible idea. Have you ever noticed on that show how someone is always being carted off to the hospital for an injury? It's no coincidence. They're pushed WAY beyond their current fitness level and that leads to injuries. Overtraining can be just as dangerous as not working out at all. Your muscles need time to recover. If there's no recovery, they're much more liable to get injured. When there's no recovery, you won't be able to workout at your normal level, so you won't see any results that way either. If you follow the nutrition plan and do your workouts, you'll get there. It's unhealthy to lose weight the way they do on "The Biggest Loser."

Perhaps you missed Denis' note just above yours that strongly suggests it's a bad idea. You will get limited additional results and almost certainly end up with a serious injury. Both Insanity and P90X are aggressive enough without adding addl workouts to them.

I know you all advise it isn't safe, but I think it's all based on your fitness level and how well you know your body. So here is what I decided to do for my schedule:

Friday: Personal Trainer, Insanity
Saturday: Insanity, P90X
Sunday: Insanity, P90X or Hip Hop Abs
Monday: Personal Trainer, Insanity
Tuesday: Insanity, optional: Hip Hop Abs
Wednesday: Personal Trainer, Insanity
Thursday: REST

Obviously if I think I'm doing to much I will cut back, but working out 2 hours a day, is not unhealthy.

As for the fat shows, they lose that much weight b/c they're obese. They're working out 5-8 hours a day, and having meals prepared for them. They make them go to bed at a decent time. They have someone holding there hand the whole time. No stress and only to focus on losing weight.
I on the other hand, have to deal with working full time, preparing my own food, and all other responsibilities, I am overweight, but by all means not in the kind of shape the people on the fat shows go in. I am well aware of the signs of when to slow down and stop. I've taken fitness classes and nutrition classes so I'm well aware on when to not push yourself that hard. Although P90X and Insanity are too very intense workouts, I've noticed quite several people who do additional workouts on top of the program. Such as weight lifting, running, yoga, abs, etc. Just know your body and push your limits, but don't over do it.

personally i've been doing a strict p90x schedule at night with random insanity workouts in the day about 3 or 4 times a week for over 2 months now and i haven't had any problems. i really don't think insanity is THAT big of a deal as long as you don't over do it although doing too much resistance training is definitely a bad idea. as long as you be smart, listen to your body and are in somewhat decent condition already i think it's ok.

also i should add that so far while i've been doing both i've only been doing the insanity workouts from the first month which are shorter.

There are mixed and contrasting opinions on this question scattered across the boards, and to their credit, the BeachBody staff are doing their due diligence by recommending against more than one work out per day. This is the conservative approach and abiding by it does indeed reduce the risk of injury and over-training.

HOWEVER, the conservative approach (in my view) is a one size fits all model that may not apply to all fitness levels. I think you really need to consider just how fit you are before deciding to combine programs.

I started Insanity on May 23, and have been working in resistance work 2 days a week from the various p90x programs. Because my schedule is so jam-packed, it is necessary for me to do the work-outs one after the other. This is really tough, but I'm in pretty good shape and have been doing this length of work-outs for some time. My resistance days are typically Monday and Thursday (Thursday is the cardio recovery day for Insanity, so a bit easier of a work-out).

I'm going into my four week of Insanity, and here are my observations. Be careful about shoulder work on resistance days. There's a lot of work from the plank position in Insanity, and you want to be very careful not to over-work your shoulders. Also, I've heard that the second month of Insanity is a bear, much harder than the first, so I plan on taking a break from the p90x work-outs during that phase.

Good luck and work hard (and smart!)
