My Overall Goal: Lose Weight
Success Story
Carrie Knecht Won $1,000 in August 2009
"There was never a time in my life where I wasn't overweight," remembers 30-year-old Carrie Knecht. She despised any physical activity and always came up last in gym class.
"Pretty much from the age of 3 on to adulthood, I was chubby, overweight, obese, and in some cases, morbidly obese. I vividly remember my childhood when I was teased and called a fatso."
As Carrie got older, her days consisted of working behind a desk all day, eating junk food, and then coming home to flop on the couch. She wore oversized T-shirts, tennis shoes, and little else.
"I was a size 22 pushing a size 24. I was reaching the end of what they sell in plus-size stores."
After the birth of her daughter, the 5'4" mom stepped on a scale and it read two-hundred and thirty-four pounds—234. She told herself, right then, that she had to do something. She couldn't continue being overweight and run the risk of her daughter being overweight as well.
"I couldn't stand the idea of her having the same childhood I had. I thought, 'She is going to watch me, and she's going to do what I do. And if I sit around and eat badly and not work out, that's what she's going to do. But if I stop this here and now, and I start working out and eating better, she's going to watch that, and she's going to want to do that.'"
She now had "fitness fever," but time on the treadmill and with free weights did little to help her overall health. Then, while watching QVC, she caught a segment on Hip Hop Abs®. She watched Shaun T and the dancers closely and thought it looked like a lot of fun. She loved to dance and thought that she could do what they were doing.
"There's just something so likeable about Shaun T. His personality—enthusiasm—is just totally contagious."
She started working out to Hip Hop Abs and loved it, but Carrie struggled with changing her eating habits—after too many years of rich food, sugar, white pasta, and desserts. She turned back to the videos to find strength—strength in Shaun T's music, moves, and high energy.
"He gets in my face, and he just makes me stay with him. It feels like he's just training you. It's like having a personal trainer in your living room."
With help from Shaun T's other programs, such as Rockin' Body®, Carrie has dropped an amazing 108 pounds. At her heaviest, she was wearing a size 22, but now, she's a 4–6. She says because of her body transformation, she's a better friend, teacher, and a better mom. For all of Carrie's hard work and dedication, she is a $1,000 winner in Beachbody's August Million Dollar Body Game. Way to go, Carrie!
