Shakeology is a game changer for sure . . . I was completely blown away
What Adam B. won:
Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body? Before I started P90X, I was on a constant cycle of depression and loneliness interrupted by brief periods of enjoyment that were mostly superficial. I was lost essentially, I mean I worked hard in school and did everything I had to do for everyone else but myself. I would do crash diets from time to time to reverse any ridiculous weight gain that would happen (and it happened a lot) in combination with long treadmill runs and some weight lifting. To sum it up, noting worked at all and I hated what I saw in the mirror. It only compounded these negative feelings I had welling up inside of me and it really seemed like there was no light at the end of the tunnel so to speak. To top it off, I injured my lower back doing a deadlift that was too heavy for me back in 2009. It was acting up on me from time to time and evolved into full blown sciatica in my left leg.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey? On top of all of the negative things I mentioned above, I would get extremely sick every few months, usually with hospitalizable cases of bronchitis. Because my body was in such poor shape, it would take me almost two months to shake the nasty viruses and it was absolutely miserable. To top it off, I was not sleeping for more than one or two hours at a time - sometimes I would wake up every half hour (this was a nightly occurrence!). Finally, I got tired of living life the way I had for such a long time and began to make changes. It was, coincidentally, at this time that I took my car to get service. While waiting, I saw the P90X infomercial for about a half hour and decided that I would commit. I figured, why reinvent the wheel? So many people had success, at the very least, I could lose weight! Lo and behold, here I am today, another one of P90X's real success stories!
What in particular did you like about the program you chose? I love how well rounded the program is. It really does hit every area that is crucial to ones health and fitness. There was no "diet" guide, rather, it was a nutritional approach that served as a lifestyle change; as a result I was able to enjoy the foods I was eating and still rapidly lose weight. I, of course, enjoyed kicking some butt in Kenpo X - it allowed me to practice the basics of martial arts which I miss practicing so much. I loved the fast pace of the resistance workouts - there isn't much down time which allowed me to get in a lot more bang for my buck - I was used to the 3 minute set breaks in a gym waiting for the bench to open up. The flexibility training in Yoga X and X Stretch were crucial to healing my back. Legs and Back - OUCH, but man can I do pullups now and my legs are strong! Plyo took me from feeling out of shape to feeling like a capable athlete; couple that with the core strengthening in the rest of the program and I am now a force to be reckoned with!
Tell us about the greatest challenge you faced. How did you overcome that challenge? Well, the workouts themselves were ridiculously difficult for me of course - especially in the beginning when I had NO endurance at all! Beyond that, I live with two people who have no regard for their personal nutrition or healthy sleep schedules (despite being athletes). My family, as I stated, is in terrible shape (although I have my mom doing Ten Minute Trainer and Power 90 now!) and therefore when I would visit home, the food choices were awful. I was not much of a cook before starting P90X so I had to get used to cooking rather than ordering junk. I had to juggle the hour + a day with carrying the course load of two Master’s degrees, plus teaching music lessons, practicing violin for 3-5 hours a day, and any independent rehearsing I had to do for various gigs (outside of school). It was not easy at first but as time went on, and the results were showing both in ability and in the mirror, it got much easier and I learned to love it!
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody® program. What achievements are you proud of? I lost a lot of weight in my first 90 days (about 35 pounds; 50 total), went from doing no pullups to doing around 10-15 with ease (I can do 31 wide grip now!). Thanks to Plyometrics, I was able to go from being the first person winded in any sport to the guy still sprinting around an hour into the game! I can do a lot of every pushup in the program reliably (including airborne and one arm) I regained my old flexibility before my back injury, and then some thanks to Yoga X and X Stretch - I also learned to LOVE the last ten minutes of Yoga X, it would practically put me to sleep it is so relaxing! I have now been totally healthy for almost two years when before I couldn't go two months without being sick! And well, finally, not to float my own boat (too much), I look really good now - thank you Ab Ripper X - I really do hate and love you!
How did your Team Beachbody® Coach support you on your journey? Christina is a phenomenal coach. She motivated me from first day I met her, opening up my eyes to the world of possibilities in Beachbody by inviting me to events, sharing new exciting happenings with me, etc.. Without Christina, I never would have been turned on to using Shakeology, I probably would have never tried any other programs, who knows if I would have become a coach, and I certainly would NOT be as passionate about health and fitness as I am today. I am eternally grateful for her friendship, guidance, and support - she is a stellar example of what a Beachbody Coach really should aspire to be.
How did Shakeology® support your transformation? What are the biggest benefits? Shakeology is a game changer for sure. From the first time I tried it at a Game Plan event, I was completely blown away that this was supposed to be healthy for me. Sold on it immediately, I purchased my chocolate bag on HD. Since using Shakeology, my energy levels gradually increased, I feel more focused and alert, I don't have sweets cravings (the PB&J recipe is my delicious dessert if I need it to be!), I definitely recover faster from my workouts, and I haven't been sick in quite a long time - I realize that is also due to my clean diet and consistent exercise but I would still get that nagging pre-cold sneezing and feeling in the back of my throat but Shakeology seems to have knocked that out as well! Finally, one of my favorite things about it is how well it satiates my appetite. There is no better meal when I don't have the option of making and taking food with me than Shakeology. It is filling, delicious, and can travel with me in a bottle!
What tips or tools on did you find most useful? What made them so instrumental? The most helpful to me has been the message boards. There were quite a few times when I was puzzled on nutritional choices and I was able to search for my answers quite reliable. The few times that I wasn't, I posted a thread on the message boards and received a helpful response from the staff within that day! I also enjoy the videos and trainers tips that are posted. Finally, I love WOWY since it lets me set up times with friends to workout together. It is a nice little tool that keeps me accountable and helped me reach your goals (with the added bonus of being entered to win prizes!). Finally, I have to add a mention for the customer support at Team Beachbody. They have been SO helpful and lightning fast in finding solutions to my problems. Whether it was a broken band, a disc that wasn't working, adjusting payment information, or simply questions that I needed answered, they have always been courteous, very personal, and very thorough.
