What Dave H. won:
Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body? I was in the worst shape of my life, and depressed with the way I looked. I had quit working out years ago and my diet was terrible. In 2009, I broke my collar bone in an ATV accident, and the following year I developed tendinitis in my elbow and could barely use my right arm. After my ATV accident, I began talking about getting back in shape. I often watched the P90X infomercials, but thought I would never be able to do it. I would get worn out just walking to the end of the driveway to get mail. By all standards, I had become obese. I had been out of the Marine Corps for almost 18 years, and looked like I had never been a Marine. I was disgusted, and if I was ever at a beach or swimming pool, I hated to take off my shirt. I was convinced that if I was in decent shape, I could have avoided my broken collar bone, and my elbow would not be in so much pain. To sum it all up, I was disgusted about my obesity and it seemed to make me eat more of the wrong foods whenever I thought about it.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey? After breaking my collarbone, I watched Tony Horton and P90X infomercials hundreds of times. I placed an order for Power 90 because I thought P90X was impossible for me. I tried Power 90, but couldn't even do a couple of pushups without my collarbone hurting. I set it on the shelf, and never tried again for over a year. When I developed tendinitis, the doctor gave me a shot for the pain. A couple of weeks later, I was back to ask for another shot. The doctor told me I needed to strengthen my wrist and forearms or it would be a never ending cycle. I passed on the second shot, and decided that it was time to make a decision and commit to doing the workouts. My inspiration came from the thousands of people who had success and from Tony Horton's constant encouragment. I love WOWY Gym and have never seen a place that offers so much support from people who are pushing to reach their goals., I found several friends that were at different spots on their journey, and it kept me accountable
What in particular did you like about the program you chose? I love Tony Horton's style. Every DVD allowed me to modify where I needed to and I was still able to get results. I remember after doing my first workout thinking that I would never make it through the 90 Days, but the next day was a different workout and I worked a different area. Muscle Confusion is talked about in the infomercials, but until you push play a few times, you never truly understand the concept. "Do your best and forget the rest" became my motto for the entire program. I struggled, but Tony always encouraged and pushed to keep trying and I did. P90X is a total body solution that allowed me to lose weight, gain lean muscle, and get much stronger. I started out dreading my morning workouts, but as I got stronger, it became the highlight of my day. I loved the Kenpo workout and on month two I started doing doubles and was doing cardio X or sometimes exchanging that for a nice run. The whole program keeps you seeing results from day one. No plateaus, just results!
Tell us about the greatest challenge you faced. How did you overcome that challenge? The greatest challenge I had was to continue pushing play everyday. I was getting up at 3:30-4:00 am and didn't get to bed until late most nights. When I started, my collarbone ached so bad, I just wanted to quit and accept myself being obese. I was diabetic, and felt like the odds were against me ever getting back in shape. I don't think I would have stuck with it without the encouragment of others working toward the same goals. Obesity is an epidemic, and I finally made the decision to commit and push through and as Tony often says, "Do your best, and forget the rest" The first few weeks, it was a challenge to stay away from the food I had alway eaten. The best thing I discovered was Shakeology when mycoach told me about it. It helped with my food cravings and kept my sugar under control which is necessary for me to be able to complete the program. For evey challenge I faced, Team Beachbody had an answer and people were there to help me overcome the struggles.
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody® program. What achievements are you proud of? I initially set my goal to reach 199 pounds. I hadn't been there in I don't know how long. I was currently at 257 pounds and my waist was 47.5 inches. I surpassed my goal, and am now at 183.5 pounds and have cut 11 inches off my waist. My Diabetes was out of control before I started working out and drinking Shakeology, and now I have reduced my insulin by half and have much better contol of my diabetes. My overall goal was to get healthy. The almost 30 inches I lost and 73.5 pounds were a great bonus. I am excited about the future. I have become an spokeperson for putting an end to obesity. END THE TREND!! I know that my success can be duplicated by anyone willing to put in the work. The thing that makes me the most proud is that I am setting a good example for my children, and putting myself in the best possible position to be here for along time to come. My kids have all done some of the workouts with me, and hopefully they will form a habit that will last for a lifetime.
How did your Team Beachbody® Coach support you on your journey? Steve is a great role model for me. He is not only my coach, but he has actually done several of the Beachbody programs. When I started P90X in July, Steve started it again with me. I am thrilled with the support he gave me and glad he is my coach. He was there for me through email and phone calls. The whole Beachbody community has been great. I love the whole group and how they help each other with blogs and chat and constant encouragment. There have been several times I felt like quitting or taking an extended break, but because of the community, I keep pushing play and doing my best. I have never found a better place to work out than WOWY Gym! If you have never tried it, get ready to Bring it!!
How did Shakeology® support your transformation? What are the biggest benefits? Shakeology was the gamechanger for me. Every morning for breakfast, I would have Shakeology. It helped me control my hunger for hours and with the low glycemic index, it kept my sugar levels under control. This was huge for me because I am in the sales field and I don't usually get to eat at regular times. I would often hit the snack machines and eat junk (chips, candy bars, soda). Being a Type 1 diabetic, I had struggled for years to get my sugar under control, and it wasn't until I started drinking Shakeology that I saw amazing results. Since I have started working out at WOWY Gym and drinking my daily shake, I have cut my insulin doses in half, lost lots of weight, especially around my midsection and gained a ton of energy. My eye sight seems to have improved and I feel great. I recommend that everyone drinks Shakeology in place of one meal a day. I have tried several weight loss drinks, nothing compares to Shakeology, it's not even close. Lose weight, increase energy, feel great!
What tips or tools on did you find most useful? What made them so instrumental? I am a regular in WOWY Gym as I mentioned. It is very useful for accountability, and I have used some of the recipes and read several helpful blogs about people who have been through some of what I have and how they handled it and pushed through. There is so much helpful information on the Team Beachbody site that I have not even touched the tip of the iceberg of it. When you make the decision to get fit and then commit yourself to follow the program, the success will come. I saw some success early on, and it helped me keep going and all the results everyone is getting made me realize that I could do it. I found great Shakeology recipes, used the meal planner, and found lots of useful nutrition advice and tips. It is easy to find buddies that are like minded and have similar goals. This is Facebook on steroids. lol Seriously, you can find so much in the way of accountability, that success will come to anyone who puts forth any kind of effort with all the tools available.
