Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body? * I have been overweight and obese my entire life. As a child, I was teased constantly. I remember starting to diet at the age of 12 because I did not want to be teased anymore. Since then, I have Yo-Yo'd on one diet or program or another. Always losing a few pounds, then gaining it all back plus more after. In June 2008, I got married to a wonderful man. The following April of 2009 we had our first son. At that point I could hardly recognize myself, but having a child and a new family took me over. This past April of 2011, I gave birth to our second son. I am now the proud mother of 2 beautiful boys (both under the age of 3!) As I always tend to do, I let taking care of everyone else put myself on the back burner. I stopped looking in mirrors, stopped going places, and just stopped caring about myself. It hurt to much to see what I had let myself become. I was out breath just trying to chase my 2 year old son around the house and struggling with patience with my kids.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey? * Over the years, I had gone from a happy, confident person, to a sad and depressed person I no longer even knew. In September of this year, I went to the Dr and they put me on an antidepressant. I took it for a few days, and decided I could not believe what I had let myself become. When I realized that I was inpatient with my kids, setting a terrible example, and now needing antidepressants just to handle life, I knew something had to be done. A huge driving force for me is my children. My husband and I have struggled with our weight our entire lives. When I sat down and looked at the big picture, and the poor example I was setting for my chlidren, I knew it was time for a change. The last thing I want is for my kids to struggle with being teased and overweight as I always was, and I know the best thing I can do for them is give them a POSITIVE example! I knew I didnt need an antidepressant, I needed to regain self confidence and take charge over my life!
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody® help you overcome that challenge? * Prior to beginning the challenge, my greatest challenges were finding the money to invest in myself, and having the support. Investing the money in myself for Shakeology was tough as we were already living paycheck to paycheck. I told myself and my husband, "I Just need 30 days to get started." Withink 10 days, I knew I needed to find a way to continue this because I felt so completely different. The following month, I signed on as a coach where I could earn a discount, plus an income helping others achieve their goals. Support was another great issue for me. I have never been held accountable like I was in my first 30 day challenge, and thus have always failed. Having the group to go to for support, and my amazing coach to turn results into, made a huge difference. I never realized how much of an impact social accountability can have, and it made all the difference!
Why did you choose this particular program? * Liz Bollini (my coach) had posted several times about challenge groups that she had started. I decided to start with her on a 30 day challenge using Shakeology. I planned to only use it for 30 days to get "jump started," but a couple weeks in, I knew that with how amazing it had made me feel, this would be a long term part of my program! For the exercise portion, Years ago, I did Turbo Jam for a few weeks. I really enjoyed it, but never stuck to it. I knew when I saw the infomercials about Turbofire, that this would be a fun, challenging way for me to get going. After the 1st day, I knew I was hooked! I foud my soulmate workout!! After completing 20 weeks of Turbofire, we started Les Mills Pump and are nearing our last week! I love Pump & now sub in Turbofire on the 'walk' days to get my "Turbofix!"
What in particular did you like about the program you chose? * I LOVE EVERYTHING about turbofire!!! I chose it knowing everday would be under 1 hour. With 2 small children, I had to have a shorter program and know the exact time allotment for each day. I love Challene and her energy. When I work out, I feel like I'm right there with her and everyone in her class. I catch myself talking back to her, making faces, and really getting into the workout. The program is FUN. I enjoy getting crazy sweaty, laughing at myself when I couldnt figure out the moves, and pushing myself a little harder each and everyday. The schedule helps immensely. I hung the calendar up on my fridge near where I workout and eachday, and each day, I checked off my workout. It kept me going to see me tracking my workouts and results! Now that we are doing Pump, I love that as well! I never knew weight lifting could be FUN! The workouts go fast, and I always feel GREAT after!
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of? * There is not enough room to describe how different I feel. I have lost 71 lbs.....unbelievable! The weight loss is wonderful, but the way I feel is even better. I have so much more energy. I feel like I've gotten the person back that I was years ago. I am running around chasing my kids, dancing with them, and happy to take care of whatever I need to. Beachbody has made me an overall better person. Working this program and having this support has made me better able to handle every component of my life. I have gotten so many compliments...not only on how I look, but on how much different people can tell I feel. I am dancing and jumping around at work.....some days I have so much energy, I feel like skipping down the halls! This program has completely changed my life. A few months ago I was being put on an antidepressant, now I have so much energy and HOPE..hope to be that person that I've always wanted to be that was buried inside of me!
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program? * My life has completely transformed. Before, I was the Mom who 'watched' her kids play. The biggest excitements in my life revolved around what we were going to watch on TV That night or where our next meal was coming from! Now, I am out RUNNING & PLAYING With my kids. I am happy and energetic. I am constantly smiling and love the newfound LOVE of LIFE that I have! We rarely watch any TV, and instead use that time to focus on our family and our workouts. I feel like nothing is impossible now! I have so much more self confidence and am happy with myself & my life. I recently put on a bathing suit and for the first time ever, I am looking forward to pool & beach season! I also feel like my marriage has been renewed. Since my husband and I are on this path TOGETHER, we have something we love that isnt just about our kids. We have a newfound love & energy for eachother & it is truly amazing!
How did participating in a Challenge Group help you reach your goals? How did your group support you and keep you accountable? Starting in that first challenge group made all the difference. I posted daily to the group and that helped me stay on track. I've never had social accountability before, or anyone who was working with me towards the same goals. If I hadnt joined that group I have no doubt that I would NOT be here today and feeling this amazing.
How did your Team Beachbody® Coach support you on your journey? Liz has been an amazing coach to me. Thru her 30 day challenge, she posted and talked to me each and everday. She always commented on what I had to say and gave encouragement on how to keep going. She always tells me to "keep pushing play!" Thanks to her, I signed up to be a coach also! This month, I have 13 people signed up for me...all inspired by my story and my energy...all working towards postive changes in their fitness journey. Liz is such an amazing person. Without her, I would still be sitting around on the couch, feeling sorry for myself, and thinking that my life was hopeless. She has helped me everystep of the way, and if there is a coach award, she is the most deserving person I could ever think of! Even now that I'm no longer in one of her groups, I call and text her regulary for feedback and guidance. She has truly changed my life!
How did Shakeology® support your transformation? What are the greatest benefits? Shakeology is amazing. By about day 10, I knew that I wanted to continue shakeology long term. Not only have I lost a tremendous amount of weight, but the energy it gives me is wonderful! I no longer have the cravings for sweets and junk like I used to. I'm able to pass on the Christmas and Holiday goodies, no sweat....something that without this program and shakeology would have been a willpower breaker for me. Best of all, I enjoy my shakes. I look forward to my daily shakeology and love that I can mix it up and change recipes. If I ever miss my shake for even a day, I feel like I'm going thru withdrawal! Its nice to know I'm FUELING my body instead of feeding it JUNK!
What tips or tools did you find most useful? What made them so instrumental? Love the goal tracker. I love looking at that % of weight loss completed. It makes me soooo happy!! I also like logging my workouts daily. It helps to see that calendar and be told how many workouts you've completed. Just another reason to keep pushing play!!
