I am a 36 year old wife and mom. I wasn't always healthy. When I was a kid, I was more of an "indoor girl", reading and eating, and doing whatever I could to get out of PE class. I smoked and drank in college. However, I got tired of feeling unhealthy and didn't want to look back at my 20s as "fat time", so I started working out with videos at home. I also quit smoking.
I soon discovered that I loved working out, but I have always struggled with diet. In the 15 or so years since I started working out, my weight has fluctuated.
When I was 29 I became a certified fitness instructor, and took some time off from graduate school to work full time in the fitness industry as a group exercise coordinator. This was quite fun, but gave me little time for anything else (including school) so after about a year, I returned to school and continued teaching part time.
I was a big fan of Cathe Friedrich workouts, and other DVDs. In 2003,I heard about a new program called P90X and bought it. I loved it.
At age 32 I became pregnant for the first time, and immediately quit exercising and started eating everything in sight. I was in the best shape of my life, almost finished with a round of P90X, but (despite my prenatal exercise knowledge) terrified to do strenuous exercise.
I was depressed the whole time, worried about the baby, and generally miserable. I gained a total of 60 pounds, and when my PERFECT son was born, only about 20 came off. I found myself almost at a starting over point.
3 weeks after my son was born, I started Kathy Smith's Project You program. It was perfect, and gave me a doable workout program to help get my strength back. I soon did a round of Slim in 6, and mixed walking/running in. By 12 months post partum, I had completely lost the baby weight.
In December of 2009, I was in the best shape of my life (again) (you can tell where this is going, right?) I was up to a comfortable 4 mile run several times a week, and was planning to start half marathon training in January. However, on January 7, I discovered I was pregnant with my second child. What a wonderful surprise!
Determined to do things differently, I resolved to stay active. I ran up until about 6 months (had to stop because the extra weight made it uncomfortable). I currently do weights, Turbo Jam and even do some modified Turbo Fire. The baby is due September 6, and my plan is to bounce right back.
UPDATE: My baby girl was born September 1!
