When I was younger, I was active, but never committed to a regular exercise routine. After my first child was born, eleven years ago, I began exercising consistently to lose weight by walking and using light hand weights. I thought my diet was fairly healthy, and I tried to limit sweets, junk food and white flour products. I continued this practice for years without adding much variety to my workouts in order to maintain my weight.

Throughout my third pregnancy, I gained much more weight than the previous two, and I had no energy to workout. My three healthy children brought me such joy, but I could feel a difference in my overall health. My energy was depleted, and anxiety, lack of concentration and sleep problems began. Experiences of lightheadedness, shaking, heart palpitations, and fainting spells were scary.

I knew I had to make changes in my lifestyle starting with a check up from my doctor. Besides high cholesterol, a diagnosis of Hypoglycemia forced me to take charge of my nutrition and fitness. The primary goal of my nutrition program was to find the proper balance of food and exercise my body needed for vital success. My assigned nutritionist empowered me with knowledge on reading nutrition labels and combining the right food groups and portions to plan out my six meals a day. Increase in lean muscle mass was crucial to achieve my optimum health, which meant heavy weight resistance programs. Without lean muscle mass, your body will burn muscle protein instead of body fat, hence converting protein to sugar for energy. After building lean muscle, your body has a slow release of energy lasting for 3 hours.

Now, with discipline and motivation from feeling great, I will continue to make nutrition and fitness a top priority, and help others achieve their goals. I love challenging workouts like P90X and TurboFire to continue my fitness journey. I began my Beachbody adventure with the muscle confusion philosophy from P90X and have continued with many more programs, along with Shakeology. I was able to achieve much more muscle definition, a stronger core, better sleep, less anxiety, and increase in energy, concentration and flexibility. I am three sizes smaller and 25 pounds lighter with a stronger body and mind, and I am in the best shape of my life!
