Let’s face it, health and fitness is overwhelming! Over the years it’s become a jumble of information: carb-load/ don’t eat carbs – low-fat/high-fat – aerobics/ weight train/ cardio/kickbox/ Good grief!!

A lot of people I know don’t go in the gym, not because they’re lazy, but because they don’t know where to start. And who can blame them, today’s gym looks like a cross between a medical lab and a gladiator school – hi-tech machines that BEEP and BUZZ mixed in with ancient iron weights and grunting monsters.

So you’ve decided to change your life. I applaud you! But where do you start?

Well, before you can start, you need to know where you’re going. You don’t just get in your car and drive, and eventually wind up somewhere…You leave the house with a destination in mind – a specific goal.

Here’s where you’ll find yours:

  • Grab a magazine
  • Find a picture of the body you want (I don’t use old photos of myself because I’m not a time traveler – I’m interested in my future body not my past)
  • Cut it out and cut off the head (You can paste yours on if you want to!)
  • Post it somewhere prominent where you will see it every day – I like the refrigerator and the bathroom mirror.

When you eat you’ll think of this new body your creating. When you workout you’ll think of this new body you’re creating. This new body of yours will soon be so deeply rooted in your subconscious mind that you’ll start dreaming about the ‘new you’!

I believe in visualization because it works. It’s your road map for the future. If you don’t know where you’re going – how will you know how to get there or when you’ve arrived?

Don’t skip this step!

In my next post we’ll get more specific about taking action to reach that new goal!

Did you know Arnold Schwarzenegger would visualize the Matterhorn when he lifted biceps – take a look at the peak on his arm and you’ll see the result! Do you currently use visualization or have you used it in the past? Do you think it’s all B.S.? Let me know your thoughts!

Catching Up!

Well, I was neglecting the blog as I did not think anyone read it.  well, I guess a few of you do!  Oops.

My two weeks of clean eating at the beginning of the year went well.  It is good to clean out!   In fact I have done a pretty good job of eating clean, generally.   It is a good thing, because  now is the time I usually get serious!

Lent arrives on the 17th and I have decided to give up all sweets and  junk, and only eat clean.  That includes  no cheese, as well!   i have found that that is harder to give up than the  other junk.  When you go to a potluck, EVERYTHING has cheese in it. Sometimes the only thing available other than pure junk is cheese and crackers.  It is okay,.  It really makes me so much more aware of what I am eating.   It is super tough to do and I do not think I could do it any other time.  It is that covenant with God that allows me to stick with it.   I do not want to break any promises to the Big Guy!

So... I will have some treats on Valentines Day and I will probably have something yummy on Fat Tuesday.  But after that, I am done for awhile.

What is the hardest thing for you to eliminate from YOUR diet?   Come and share any strategies you have to avoid your food weakness!

Happy Valentines Day!!!

Acountability, Day one

Well yesterday was the start of my new years resolutions and the start of a new round of P90X.

I did get my glass of water in, I did feed myself high quality fuel, did get in my Shakeology and put in a grueling workout!  Here are the details.

Input:

am glass of water

Breakfast- mushroom omlette(P90x recipe, minus the cheese) egg whites with green onion, tomato and a bunch of mushrooms, coffee

snack- P90x bar

Lunch- chef salad( p90X recipe)- lettuce, tomato mushroom onion and a ton of turkey with balsamic vinagrette

snack- shakeology

Dinner-chicken with lemon dill sauce(P90X recipe), brown rice, red pepper soup(P90X recipe)

other- recovery formula after working out

Output-

Chest and Back

Ab ripper X

P90X is the gift that keeps on giving.  I have done this routine so many times I cannot count, but it still kicked my butt like nobody's business!  all those pull ups and push ups!  I am not nearly at the level  I have been in the past, but I still managed to squeeze out one more rep in the second round of each set. :)

Dinner was delicious, but to be honest, I was not that hungry.  I had to force it all down.  The funny thing was, when I woke up this morning, I was starving!!!  I guess the metabolism is kicking in already!  Yeah, baby!

Today I go to work at the bakery.   My boss usually makes me a super healthy lunch, like miso soup, but once in a while he offers grilled cheese.  Granted it is organic bread and high quality goat cheese, but that is not part of the P90x menu!   I think I will bring a P90x bar and a Shakeology shaker with some powder at the bottom in case of emergency.

Day 2 here I come!

New year, New intensions

I hope the new year finds you well and refreshed.

The holiday season was definitely fun, but my exercise routine has definitely suffered.  I do not even want to think about some of the goodies I have consumed!

well it is a new year and it is time to get my "house" in order.  I am looking to get back on track and would love to have you join me!  I know we may not have the same fitness and health goals and that is perfectly okay.  Let's just encourage each other to stick to the goals we have set for ourselves.  If you want to  join in the fresh new start, post or email me your personal goals, either short or long term.  Be specific!  Choose something you can actually measure, like" I will workout 3 times a week or I will eat 3 vegetable servings a day."

So here are mine:

Long term-

- I will work out a minimum of 5 times a week, preferably 6

- I will drink a glass of water first thing when I wake up.

-I will incorporate fun fitness and service into each week.  ( Okay, I know that one is harder to measure, but it it my new business model)

Short term-

- I will go on a cleansing for a week starting today, the 4th.  No junk, no cheese and Shakeology every day.

-I will journal my eating for the week on Facebook and here.

As I reflect on 2009, I realize how much I appreciate my fitness and Beachbody buddies.  You inspire me to do better.  I know that if we continue to link together, we can make even greater changes in our lives and the lives of others.

Together, we are better!

warmest wishes,

Lisa DG

June 29- more rain

ANOTHER chilly, rainy day in Maine!   That's okay because Tony's One on One Butt routine got me warmed up in a jiffy!   I had not done this one before and it was great!   Boy, using those big muscle groups really gets the sweat pouring.  It had some new moves in there too.

Eating has not been the greatest.   We have had too many activities letely that have made it hard to plan.  Not an very good excuse!   Yesterday my son's community band  performed about an hour away at the Owl's head Transportation museum( fun!) and by the time we got out of there it was 2:30 and we were starving!   We stopped at a mexican place around 3:00 for soem "Linner"  I ordered a butternut squash enchelada with blackbeans and rice.  it was amazing, but had far too much cheese all over it to call it a healthy choice.  I also had a light beer with lime.  It was my first drink in months, but still not a great chioce.

Today's eating is off to apretty good start.  I had home made wheat toast (with flax and pumpkinseeds in it) and recovery drink after the workout.  I am about to go and get some chicken breast over some lettuce for lunch.
