Where do you find motivation?

I hear a lot of people say that they have a hard time being motivated. I often get a personal message with the words "I need motivation" (or something similar) in the subject line. Well, truth is, I can't give you motivation - it has to come from within.

What I can do is help you find your motivation and what motivates you. I enjoy coaching people to their goal and giving a helping hand along the way. I ask for help from my Coach as well.

People often leave their goal out of the equation when looking for motivation to do their workouts consistently. We say things like:

"I'm too (*insert excuse here) to work out."

*sore, tired, lazy, busy, overwhelmed, stressed, etc., etc.

There was something that motivated you to buy your workout DVDs. What was it?
Lose weight?
Put on muscle?
Get toned?
Get ripped?
Get swimsuit ready?
Lower your cholesterol?

Equate that goal with working out!

"Ugh. I don't want to work out today."

Really?

Exchange the words "work out" with your goal. I don't want to lose weight. I don't want to look good in a swimsuit. I don't want to get ripped. YES YOU DO! IF YOU WANT THAT BODY, IF YOU WANT GOOD HEALTH - YOU WANT TO WORK OUT! YOU CAN'T AFFORD NOT TO!

Work out until pressing play is like brushing your teeth - you have to do it daily.

It's that easy. No magic pill, no gimmick.

Fitness + Diet + Support = Success

What Next?

So, I have been answering some questions on the message boards having to do with being consistent with diet and exercise. Some have mentioned that after they complete P90X or insanity that they "fall off." Then what is the solution? You can always do another round of the program you just finished, but say you want a break; here's a few tips to keep the exercise flowing and not lose the results that you worked so hard for.

·     Mix it up with some fitness-influenced activities. Give yourself a break from the routine, but not a break from fitness. Plan some weekend hiking trips, bike rides, swimming days, basketball - anything that interests you. Try to work out with some of your favorite Beachbody workouts a few days a week as well.

·     Take a vacation that is has a fitness element. A spa retreat with some yoga classes, a camping or lodging trip near some National Parks for skiing, snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, or other outdoor activities. OR take a trip to Las Vegas this summer and work out with all of your favorite trainers at the Beachbody Summit.

·     Start a new challenge with a new program. If you've completed a few rounds of P90X and need something different go for Insanity or the Asylum, or vice versa.

·     Back off with a lighter program. If P90X or Insanity pushed your limits and you're ready for a break, try 10 Minute Trainer, Power 90, or any of Beachbody's other programs. 10 to 30 minutes of exercise each day is a lot better than doing a round of an extreme program and then just stopping all together. With a less demanding program you can continue your healthy habits and jump right back into P90X or Insanity when you are ready.

·     Find a Beachbody Fit Club close by. Fit Clubs are a fun way to workout in a group setting to the programs you love.

Doing Beachbody in Alaska

It has been a while since I have posted a blog, but it has been a busy last few months. I am finally settled in my new home in Kotlik, AK.

My "Beachbody" figure can now officially be called a Snowbody or Icebody. I have also made a few adjustments to the P90X nutrition plan. Moose meat is not listed anywhere in the nutrition guide (go figure), but it has replaced beef (mostly) in my diet, and its more lean than beef so I'm pretty sure Tony would approve. Plus with no fast food, or any restaurants for that matter, Shakelology is my solution anytime I need a quick meal.

I had kept my body fat around the 10% area while living in Las Vegas, but I see that number dropping by a couple of percentage points once this round of P90X is done. There is really zero temptation to have a "cheat" day.

More on my Alaska adventure to come....

Things that cost $4.00...

Things that cost $4.00 or more... that I see people buy every day:

Starbucks Coffee

Cigarettes

A six pack of beer

A draft beer at a pub, bar, or brewery

A mixed drink or cocktail

“Value” meals at fast food restaurants

Energy drink + Candy bar

Ice cream from Cold Stone (or somewhere similar)

All things that are either detrimental to one’s health and well-being; really, just plain bad for you.

When I first heard about Shakeology, admittedly, I thought, “It seems a little pricey.” Once I looked into it and found out what the product consists of and how beneficial it can be to someone’s health, it made sense to me to give it a try. When I received my first bag of Chocolate Shakeology I mixed some up with milk in a blender and said, “Wow.” I turned to my wife and said, “Jaki, you’ve got to try this.” I had never had a “health shake” that tasted that good.

After drinking the shakes for a few weeks, I noticed a difference in the way that I felt. Most notable for me was the increased sustained energy and better digestion, and all together - I just felt better.

In the few months after I became a Coach with Team Beachbody I began to meet new friends (online and in person) that had truly compelling experiences with Shakeology. There’s Juan “Landy” Urquiaga that suffered two heart attacks then was able to get his cholesterol under control with Shakeology; and there’s Ellen Fuentes-Bevins that was able to curb her vertigo by taking the shakes daily. But, I think one of the greatest, and most touching, is Cammie Lusk’s story (see link below) of how Shakeology has helped her with MS.

I think of all the success stories out there with Shakeology; the before and after photos, the homemade and YouTube videos, and the personal stories like the one’s mentioned above. Then I think of the before and afters from the list at the top. Someone’s lungs before and after smoking. A liver after years of drinking. And maybe the greatest before and after story of fast food, the movie “Supersize Me.” If millions of people can pay more than $4 a day to potentially kill themselves, isn’t it a lot more rational to spend $4 a day (or less if you’re a Coach) on something that can prolong your life and improve your health?

After personally having Shakeology every day and feeling the benefits, and also seeing the positive impact it has had on the lives of my friends, I can say that at four dollars a serving – It is a BARGAIN!

The next Round of P90X

I was hoping to start my next round of P90X over a week ago, but I came down with pneumonia. Looks like now I will start it next week when I am 100 percent.

I had such great results last time that I can't wait to see what happens on this round. This time I am on Tony's nutrition plan from his book "Bring It". I hope that I get to the leanest I have ever been this time around. I am trying to do the first phase in the cleanse part of Tony's diet (no meat or animal products, no gluten, no sugar, no caffeine, no alcohol)

I might even try to add some heavier weight to gain some size on the arms and legs - we'll see.

It should be another fun ride!
