INSANITY Week One

Holy calorie burn Batman!  Let me tell you guys that week one of Insanity was as insane as everyone says.

I knew it was going to be hard.  My mind told me it was going to be hard, my body told me, after the fit test, that it was going to be hard.  But I wasn't expecting to feel so good after doing something SO hard.

Our first workout of the week was Plyo Cardio Circuit.  I knew the word plyo meant we would be jumping and there was definitely jumping, but this workout didn't stop there.  The warm up alone was enough to have me dripping sweat into my eyes and gasping for air.  I pushed through and managed to finish the workout.  Shaun T encourages you to take breaks when you feel your form suffering so I took his advice and took a few short breaks until I could come back with proper form.  It's inspiring to see the people working out on the DVD pushing so hard that they had to take breaks too.  Of course their form was well above what I could complete, but hopefully in time I will get there.

We moved on to Cardio Power and resistance. This workout was definitely heavy on the resistance.  Power jumps and v pushups were just a couple of the crazy things endured  during this workout.  Again paying attention to form  I made it through.  So happy that I actually had enough strength to do 2 of these workouts......and 2 days in a row!

Now, I hoped Cardio Recovery was going to be just that....a recovery workout.  eh, NO! The pace of this workout was much slower but the intensity did not diminish one bit.  When I was doing slow lunges or squats and heard Shaun T. said "hold that right there" I was like....whaaaaa?  You must be crazy.  But I held....until my thighs were burning so much that I just couldn't hold it any more.  This workout was hardcore. Definitely not the "recovery" day I was hoping for.  But amazing, nonetheless! Oh by the way, went out of town with the family and still managed to get this workout in at the hotel!!! So nice that this workout travels well, especially since there is no equipment.

Next ont he list?  PURE CARDIO AAAAAAAAtAAH! Man, this was the hardest workout of the week for me.  This was a full on, all out, blast of pure cardio without any breaks aside from the one given to you after the warm up.  I think it is just assumed that you will take breaks on your own when you just can't take it anymore.  And they did, and I did.  WOW, this workout just pushed and pushed and pushed.  After the warm up the main workout is 15 minutes, 15 moves, 1 minute each.  Even Shaun T is rolled out on the floor after this one.  I was SO glad when this one was done!

Last workout of the week was Plyo Cardio Circuit again.  I definitely noticed that after having done this workout and was at the end of the first week that I could push harder, which meanth my muscles pushed more and burned more but it means I'm improving right?

Did pretty well on nutrition during the week and then our out of town trip came along and I did the best I could, which was not as good as it should have been....ugh, my weakness.  I am working on it though.  Trying to give it my absolutel best effort. This week I am going to have to write down an eating plan for myself and just stick to it, no exceptions.  I'll fill you all in next week on how that goes. eeek.

So there is the long summary of my first week of INSANITY.  I made it.  If I learned one thing this week it is DON'T SACRIFICE FORM for speed! I also learned that I can do anything I am determined to do.

Even though I think I must be MAD to do a workout called INSANITY!

60 DAYS OF INSANITY

Ok guys,

In response to all of the comments I've gotten about starting Insanity, I am going to make sure to keep you all in the loop.  Today is our (Danny and I) first official workout.  Let me make this clear though.  We FELT like last night was day 1.

The INSANITY fit test is NO JOKE.  For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a series of moves that are listed for you to do every 15 days to measure your fitness progress.  There are 8 different moves and you are intruscted (by the incredibly fit Shaun T who never loses his breath by the way) to do as many of each move as you can in one minute.  At that point you record your number on the form that is provided and you get a minute break, then you move on to the next move, again, as many as you can in one minute.  25 minutes later, we're huffing and puffing, dripping sweat, and lauighing (which is why this is going to be fun with a buddy)

So let me tell you, I am a teeny bit scared about completing this program.  I know I have to get really comfortable with being uncomfortable.  I also know that to get great results I need to push my body to it's absolute limits.  Which means that when I feel like my muscle are getting tired I don't take a break then, I wait until my legs, or arms etc are on fire, then I break.  I have a habit of feeling that point coming and pulling back because I don't want to feel that muscle fatigue.  So, for me it's time to push forward and make this program an all out effort.

Let me share another fear of mine with INSANITY.....Nutrition!  I have had great results with Turbo Jam, P90X and Turbo Fire.  But I have never followed the nutrition guides that have been provided with them.  I read the nutrition guide for INSANITY from cover to cover.  I have figured out the main message of the guide and have a plan set for me now.  Again, I have NEVER followed the nutrition guide.  I can count calories, I can watch certain things but I have trouble with structure in the nutrition area.  So, this will be a HUGE challenge for me.

SO...I have my work cut out for me.  I hope you'll join me in my journey.  The good, the bad and the insane (thanks steph for that great line)  I will share my ups and downs with the program, throw it all down.

Here are my numbers from my first fit test.  (we'll see how they improve over the next 15 days)

Switch kicks: 83

Power Jacks: 39

Power knees: 92

Power Jumps: 21

Globe Jumps: 7

Suicide Jumps: 15

Push-up Jacks: 20

Low plank oblique: 40

WISH ME LUCK....UNTIL NEXT TIME!

Turbo Fire

This is my first week of Turbo Fire.  WOW, amazing so far.  We'll see how I feel at the end of the week.  Still trying to stay on track with my eating habits and it's been a challenge for sure.  The workouts definitely keep me more accountable.  Don't want to work out and spoil it by taking in the wrong foods.
