Of all the workouts, the Plyo workouts tend to be my least favorite. I don't really know why. Perhaps because I didn't play sports as a kid or through college. I engaged in some martial arts training at various times - ninjitsu, aikido, karate, tai chi, jujitsu.... but those never invovled a lot of jumping/plyo exercises. At least not at my levels haha.
I almost dread pushing play for the Insanity plyo workouts, and I'd probably do the same for P90X or others with "plyo" in the title of the disc. But there really is no reason for me to dread them so much. It's not like I do poorly. It's not like I'm hurt or anything from it, or injuries are aggravated by it. I just hae this ridiculous sense that I should dread them, I think. As a psych major that's interesting to me....
I am not on a specific workout schedule right now. My husband was recovering from an ankle injury after our first round of Shaun T's Insanity. The injury occurred after the workout program was completed, it was just dumb luck and bad coordination haha. So we cut back a little and were jumping from Power90 Masters Series to Power90 Sculpt 3-4 to Slim Series to some Insanity workouts from month one.
Now my husband is on a trip for work until the end of the month so I've been working out alone for this week. I woke up late today and was going to just shower and start my day, but then I stopped. What am I doing?! I work from home!! It's not like I have to rush through traffic to get to the office haha. Even with grad school, most of my work is done at home.
I changed into my workout clothes and set the mat down. When I openned the Insanity "book" I saw the Plyo Cardio Circuit and flipped passed it. Then stopped and went back. That's the one with the punches at the end, right? (I thought to myself) I decided to put it in. I got my water, actually... I used gatorade today. It's real hot and humid lately and I don't tend to consume a lot of salt so I try to use something like gatorade on occasion during my workouts. There was an electrolyte drink I liked better that I used to get in Hawaii, but I'll have to order it online if I want it now.
Anyway... so I pushed play. <--- that's the hardest part on some days, isn't it? Even for me!
As I worked through it, only stopping during the water breaks (I'm always proud of myself when I can manage that haha) I realized I was actually enjoying it. It's not really something to dread! Then I realized something else. Obviously it's not my first time running through this workout, I've done it over a dozen times probably.
I realized that I love in the Insanity Plyo Circuit workout when the music changes and you KNOW you're near the end haha. Then he changes to the jabs and punches and you KNOW it's almost over.... and then it's over and the mat can go away and Results & Recovery Formula is waiting :-)
