The Tortoise and the Hare - Slow and Steady Wins the Race

Happy Tuesday friends. This morning I went on a run in the rain (yes no excuses here) and that's when I do most of my thinking about what I want to write in my check in e-mails (don't you feel special). This morning all I could think of was The Rabbit and the Turtle or some may know it as the famous fable written by Aesop The Tortoise and the Hare. Why would I be thinking of that? Well two weekends ago I ran in a 5K race after running in one the weekend before........not too smart on my end. Anyway as they blew the whistle to start I take off with all the 250+ others passing up several peeps younger and older feeling great as to how far I have come in a couple of years. As I passed this one lady that was clearly in her 60's moving slow I turned to her and smiled thinking to myself..........awe Sha (Cajun for cute) and how proud I was of her for doing this. This meaning running 3.1 miles which could be a piece of fat free cake for some but very difficult for others including ME! I move on as I pass up more and more peeps with some even walking before they get to the 1 mile marker. As I turn the corner and get to the 2 mile mark I start to really slow down and struggle to breath and ummmmmm just run. So I talk myself into walking.......yes walking. As I walked for a bit I turned to the left and watched as the 60+ yr old lady just slowly passed me by. When I got up enough courage to run the last 1/2 mile I never caught up with her. She finished the race before me. Slow and steady.........that's what wins the race is what I was thinking at that moment. I was really proud of her and learned a great lesson. My races need to be about just finishing with out stopping not finishing first. As I ran this morning and thought of the fable, I also though of my sister that I am so very proud of. She has finally decided to change her life to being healthier and fit. She has a long journey, it will not be easy and it will not happen over night. I sent her my Slim In 6 dvd that I started with 4+ yrs ago and told her I would be in Louisiana soon to help her start Day 1. I think her first day of working out was probably one of the hardest things she had to do. To date she is on day 4, getting up early enough to push play at 5 am and making it through the whole workout without a break!!! Whoo Hoo that is so exciting. She has so much energy now and even sleeping better. I want her to know also that slow and steady will win her race..........her race being healthy......mind, body & soul. I'm thrilled to be on this journey with her and look forward to her being able to look back 4 yrs later and see how far she has come. For you Dottie - I love you!!!!!

My Story

Four years ago on a Saturday morning I was sitting on the couch flipping through channels feeling sorry for myself because I hated the way I looked and felt. I was 44 years old, out of shape, over weight, always tired, reflux so bad that I couldn't sleep at night. As I was flipping through I came across an infomercial for Slim In 6. It looked really easy (ha), they said you could lose up to 30 lbs in just 6 weeks. WOW, I thought. Six weeks is not long at all. I can do that. I was always looking for the quick fix.......magic pill to remove the 30+ extra pounds I was carrying.

I told my hubby that I was going to order this program on TV because it said I could lose 30 lbs in just 6 weeks.......that's all I need then I can get back to my normal routine. Easy! Well the hubby said something that at the time pissed me off but looking back now was the best thing he could have done for me. He said........."you have spent so much money (he really meant wasted) on pills, shots, drinks, powders, meal plans.......blah blah blah (that's really what I was hearing)". When I look back it was hundreds of $$$$ I'm sure. So what did I do? Bow up like a cobra and say............."I'll show you"! So I ordered my Slim In 6 and found the BeachBody message boards. I can remember when I first started posting on the boards thinking I can't see myself here in a few months from now because this is hard and it takes time. I've never stuck to anything before so why would this be different........then I heard his voice (hubby) and I said "I will show him"! LOL So I got more involved and posted everyday, meeting people that had the same interest as me. It became a social thing. We started working out "together" in WOWY (work out with you) and then it became FUN!!!! The message boards became my daily support. This was the missing link!

Fast forward 4 years later.................I'm still on the message boards giving the same support I needed back then to people that need it now. I not only completed Slim In 6 but have also completed.........P90X and Chalene Extreme - both 90 day programs, Turbo Jam and Hip Hop Abs - Fun Dancey, Ten Minute Trainer - short and sweet, Kathy Smith's Project You (for peeps with Diabetes) - which I LOVE, you don't have to have diabetes to use this program and so many other samples of BeachBody workouts. I love working out more now than I did then. It has become my daily routine with a day or two of rest each week. I have entered several 5K races and completed most............winning first place in my age group last October.
I eat better, sleep better, feel better............OH and off any type of medication for Reflux (2 yrs now) thanks to this little package of Shakeology that I drink daily. One of my best friends still to this day is one of the girls I met on the message boards 4 years ago............shout out to Susan R!!!!! Obviously I'm a coach now but also have 27 coaches under me working to end the trend of obesity, I have 263 customers to date that I try to stay in close contact with to help them with their health and fitness needs. Each day a new person comes around that can use the help of a BeachBody coach and I get excited all over again. BeachBody has changed my life!!!!!!!

I hope you can use my story to motivate you and know that you can do it too. Age is just a number. No excuses..............you have to do it for yourself.  Coach Lizzy:)
