The Tortoise and the Hare - Slow and Steady Wins the Race

Happy Tuesday friends. This morning I went on a run in the rain (yes no excuses here) and that's when I do most of my thinking about what I want to write in my check in e-mails (don't you feel special). This morning all I could think of was The Rabbit and the Turtle or some may know it as the famous fable written by Aesop The Tortoise and the Hare. Why would I be thinking of that? Well two weekends ago I ran in a 5K race after running in one the weekend before........not too smart on my end. Anyway as they blew the whistle to start I take off with all the 250+ others passing up several peeps younger and older feeling great as to how far I have come in a couple of years. As I passed this one lady that was clearly in her 60's moving slow I turned to her and smiled thinking to myself..........awe Sha (Cajun for cute) and how proud I was of her for doing this. This meaning running 3.1 miles which could be a piece of fat free cake for some but very difficult for others including ME! I move on as I pass up more and more peeps with some even walking before they get to the 1 mile marker. As I turn the corner and get to the 2 mile mark I start to really slow down and struggle to breath and ummmmmm just run. So I talk myself into walking.......yes walking. As I walked for a bit I turned to the left and watched as the 60+ yr old lady just slowly passed me by. When I got up enough courage to run the last 1/2 mile I never caught up with her. She finished the race before me. Slow and steady.........that's what wins the race is what I was thinking at that moment. I was really proud of her and learned a great lesson. My races need to be about just finishing with out stopping not finishing first. As I ran this morning and thought of the fable, I also though of my sister that I am so very proud of. She has finally decided to change her life to being healthier and fit. She has a long journey, it will not be easy and it will not happen over night. I sent her my Slim In 6 dvd that I started with 4+ yrs ago and told her I would be in Louisiana soon to help her start Day 1. I think her first day of working out was probably one of the hardest things she had to do. To date she is on day 4, getting up early enough to push play at 5 am and making it through the whole workout without a break!!! Whoo Hoo that is so exciting. She has so much energy now and even sleeping better. I want her to know also that slow and steady will win her race..........her race being healthy......mind, body & soul. I'm thrilled to be on this journey with her and look forward to her being able to look back 4 yrs later and see how far she has come. For you Dottie - I love you!!!!!
