Here is one of my favorite quotes:
You have to ACT your way into feeling better because you NEVER FEEL your way into ACTING better.
I am just as guilty in this as the rest of us. I have spent many days waiting for the big break to come to me or for me to get out of 'that funk' so I can go an do something that is positive.
We have all been there... at least most of us. I am sure its safe to make that claim. We just are in a 'sinking spell' as my grandmother would call it. And during these spells, we tend to just let it happen and hope that when we finally go to sleep and wake up the next day, it will just disappear. What we don't realize, is that our choice of inaction, we are simply enabling the spell the right of existence. We are actually FEEDING the spell, changing its diaper, bathing it, dressing it up and sending it on its way to college to let it get bigger and smarter.
Sure, sometimes when you are exhausted, you can feel depressed and be in a spell thats similar to what I am talking about and when you do to go sleep and wake up, you do feel better. We all get those to. But those aren't the ones that I am talking about.
When one of these depressions or sinking spells come on, that is when we should force ourselves to get up and DO something about it. This is why, in my experience at least, the more active people tend to not have these types of issues. They are busy DOING something. Its in the DOING that churns the engine in our bodies that feed our brains that then reacts to what its being fed.
What happens when we move? Our heart beats a little faster. We burn more calories. Our body tells us its hungry for something in particular (if we listen) that it needs so we eat it. This feeds our system. Our bodies are PROGRAMMED TO PROSPER. By willing our bodies to move, the system starts to work. Our body then rewards our brains with what it needs to feel good. This affects our mental states. So by DOING, we ALLOW our minds to move towards the positive there for we are ACTING OUR WAY INTO FEELING BETTER.
When ever you are feeling in a funk, don't listen to that sob story voice in your head. Take charge and move your body. Go for a quick run, even if its just a brisk walk around the block. Eat something healthy. Flavor it up to taste great! I like cooking fish in a hot plate on olive oil with fajita seasoning... its totally delish!
I love being a Beachbody Coach because what I do is encourage everyone to act their way into feeling better and staying that way! What a privilege!
