Like Riding A Bike

Ha!  We all pretty well know how to do that don't we?  But, if you're like I am, we don't live in town, so I haven't dug out my bicycle for awhile.  But guess what?  Bet I can get on that thing and it'll all come back to me.

My point, well, it's like eating.  We fall off our path and sometimes it's hard to get back on and try again.  Maybe I think that it isn't really doing much good because I'm not seeing the results I really want to see, but I know better.  Why?  Because if I fall off the exercise plan, my body definitely lets me know with aches and pains (Ya, over 50 is a new experience each day).  So, just because I don't see those results....they really are there!

The same goes for eating healthy.  Have you ever stopped eating sugar, processed foods, or cut out greasy foods, only to eat something with one of those things in it and end up "sick to your stomach"?  Well, don't ignore that feeling.  Your body is telling you it really doesn't like what that junk does to it.

Are we going to be 100% all the time?  Heavens no!  But we can keep getting back on that bicycle of life each time we fall off and try again and keep trying!

Oh, and it really is worth it, you and I both know that :)

Pain in the neck...literally!

Do you ever just wonder why things on our bodies have to give us fits?  I definitely do.  For over three weeks I've had problems with tension in my neck left 2 weeks right 1st week to where I can turn it or lift it.  I've historically made sure I lift weights a couple of times a week to keep the muscle in between my shoulders strong to keep from this happening.

Well, it's not helping right now.  Why?  Because of that nagging pain in my neck....STRESS!  Yep, amazing how it can affect our bodies and debilitate them.  I've been under a lot of pressure at work due to employees complaining about the changes that have come about by adding them to our city network.  Try to tell yourself to "stop worrying", "ha!"  that works until the next person comes an basically yells at ya.  No, thank goodness I'm past the eating thing when under stress, but have just shifted it apparently.

Sooo, short of spending another miserable weekend in pain, I'm going to give in and go to a chiropractor.  At this point, guess I can stand a few minutes of cracking and popping for some relief.

Today's lesson is....TRY NOT TO LET STRESS DRAG YOU DOWN.  I'm going to try some yoga tonight!

What next after you hit your goals?

I was just sitting here after watching the Biggest Loser and something stuck in my mind.  The guy that was in the Olympics made a comment about what happened after he met his goal of making it to the Olympics.  He basically said "Where was he to go after accomplishing it".

If you think about different goals we have set for ourselves and how we feel after getting to those goals...what was next?

I think about when I won the transformation contest here on TBB and how happy I was when I accomplished that goal.  It was great!  The coming months weren't a problem because I knew I was in the running (even through the holidays) that I had a chance to go to the finals for that year.  When I wasn't chosen, it was quite a letdown.  I soon found myself thinking that since I didn't have to worry about winning anymore, it was okay to relax a little.  Well, that's also a the point where I decided to quit smoking.  I was still semi-watching my eating and still exercising.  I should have been grateful that I only gained 11 lbs. compared to the many, many people who I know that gained 25 to 30!  I kept plugging along, but didn't set any goals toward losing that weight.  I had an "excuse" for it.

My point of all of this?  If you don't continually set goals for yourself, you are leaving things in life that you tell youself you want, to chance, not reality.

And that is why I refuse to give up on a healthy lifestyle!

Are you really too old?

I was sitting here thinking about the events of the last week and half.  My mother had a place on her arm that looked like a spider bite and went to the dr. a week and half ago.  Ended up it was cellulitis and was hospitalized with low bp (60/30) and very low potassium.  Long story short...they ended up finding a perforation in her stomach, full of infection inside and has been battling this since then.  Is she getting better?  Yes she is.

My point of this blog?  Well, my mother is 76 years old and goes to our local fitness center 3x a week, eats well and is above average in having her faculties about her.  I found it interesting when hospital staff would come in asking her questions and their faces when they found she wasn't "deteriorated" for her age. Oh, and believe me people do think if you are old, you don't have it all together.

Anyway, I'm attributing her quick recovery period to her healthy lifestyle.

YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD TO BE HEALTHY!!!

New Year....New Goals???

Been thinking about my blog for a few days and kept intending on getting here....ya , ya, ya.

I have been posting on my accountability thread though.

Which leads me to my subject for today.  It's almost New Year's.  Have you set your goals for this coming year?  I KNOW, I KNOW!  We always have goals, but why don't we stick to them?  Well, I've heard it many times before..."write down your goals".  It's true!!!  I used to think how lame that sounded, but it is true.  If we see those goals (even if it's just one) it's a conditioning that we reinforce everyday.

Oh, and don't be too hard on yourself.  Not everyone is 100% and if they tell you that, I doubt it.  So, think of it as something you work toward.  Or think of goals as part of your "journey of life".  Some we reach, so we keep working toward....it's a way of living and that makes life easier to stay on track!
