Well, it finally came.

One of those days where I just don't feel 'right'. I haven't had one of these in awhile, so it's kind of hard to remember what I need. I worked Kenpo HARD, but about 3/4 of the way thru, stuff started creeping into my head. And then it just kept digging...

I pushed myself to finish, but just didn't feel right when I was done. I don't know if it's the kind of day it is outside or what. I just don't feel motivated today. All the stuff that piled up over the last 3 years or so is boiling to the surface, reminding me of who I was before.

It's kind of like that good angel/bad angel on my shoulders, except the good angel is taking an early 3-day weekend, leaving the other guy to have free reign over my thoughts. It's one of those moments where I feel like everything I've done in the past... everything I've tried... just isn't enough. I start to feel like I'M not enough...

Part of my journey out of the mess I created was feeling sorry for myself too much... looking for someone or something to pull me up out of it. But when a Pity Party falls in the forest and people get sick of hearing about it...? All you're left with are your thoughts...

One thing that's different this time is I know I can pull out of this... before it wasn't like that. I'd go for days like this, and it ld just snowball thru the weekend and into the next week.

But not this time... because I know I'm better than that now. Everybody deserves better...

I want people that can identify with what I'm talking about to know there is a chance... you can do anything you set your mind to... never give up on yourself.

What your mind believes your life achieves.

Day 5 - P90X Legs & Back / Ab Ripper X

WOW again...

There was a moment when I finished The Ripper and tried to get up off the floor that I thought I might be stuck down there all day. I honestly thought I was done for.

If doing Legs & Back wasn't hard enough, I still had the Plyo Burn going from Monday. Once I finished Legs & Back, I could barely lift my legs off the ground for any of The Ripper... I was shaking uncontrollably from the waist down!

Now THAT is what I call a great workout!

I can really see now why people give up in such a short time period. If I didn't know what I was capable of already, I might give in too. It takes something more than just strength and stamina to pull of 90 days of The X... it takes mind control.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... you're only as strong or as weak as you think you are. If you go in every day thinking you CAN'T do it, you WON'T do it.

I think everyone should try and live their days like "Opposite George" did on Seinfeld. Take everything that didn't work before in your life and do the OPPOSITE... see how your life changes.

All I ask is that you give yourself a chance to succeed...

P90X Day 4 - YogaX... Namaste My Friends...

Day 3 - P90X Yoga X

Namaste... what a workout.

I've never been a fan of Yoga. If you've ever seen the YouTube video where Tony Horton talks about Yoga (look it up), I'm one of the people the woman talks about when she uses the word 'hate'. I used to REALLY hate it. Now I don't dislike it so much... thanks to Tony.

I realize that I'm getting older, and between the regular 'growing old' symptoms that I have, many of you know I also battle Psoriatic Arthritis. When I first started showing symptoms 2 years ago, it was pretty brutal... not being able to stand up in the morning getting out of bed, walking down the stairs holding both railings, and never able to run or workout without major pain.

But with medication (which I hate to have to take) I've gotten it somewhat under control. In the past few weeks though, it's started rearing it's ugly head again. My hands and feet hurt, and doing some of the P90X moves really bothers me. But I know that if I fight thru the pain, my gains will be GREAT.

Today with Yoga, I still felt the Plyo Burn from Monday... my thighs are still killing me. But I'll tell you what... doing Yoga today was just what the Dr. ordered. It felt good to stretch out my body, and my legs really benefitted from it. And it was nice to be able to clear my head before I start back at the Middle School tomorrow. I also added a bit of walking this afternoon, with a 2 mile walking lawn mow with DAT Self-propulsion... I wouldn't want it any other way.

Doing Yoga can be beneficial on many fronts... it not only helps your body recover and stretch, but it shows your psyche that you can accomplish whatever you put your mind to.

So if you're thinking about doing something good for your bod, consider Yoga... you won't regret it.

And from today on, I vow to never complain about Yoga again...

I'll just curse it under my breath.

Now I remember the leg burn!

When I crawled out of bed this morning, I was greeted immediately with the inability to stand for about 30 seconds. My thighs were WASTED... it hurt just to take a step. I haven't felt that in many, many months, but I'll tell you what... it goes to show that while I was 'working out' for the past 6 months, I wasn't truly pushing the envelope. I wasn't doing everything necessary to give myself a great workout.

So today brought a new level of focus... ignoring the pain in my legs to push myself thru the Shoulders & Arms workout. But I especially noticed it when doing The Ripper... I had trouble keeping my legs off the ground at some points because they were so sore.

This brings up a good lesson... don't let what happened YESTERDAY interfere with what you want to do TODAY. You may be sore beyond belief, but the whole point of starting a new journey in fitness is doing those things that you couldn't fathom doing in the past. It's about breaking down walls of doubt, and climbing up to break thru those ceilings that have stopped you before.

If you can't do everything during the entire workout, then break it down and do what you can. Maybe you can't do all 25 reps in The Ripper, but you can probably do 15-20, right? Then do THAT... but don't do NOTHING.

Once you can control your MIND, everything around you will get easier. But first you have to give yourself that chance to succeed... no one is going to lift you up off that couch and drag you to work out... that's up to you. It's all about DESIRE... where you are and where you COULD be.

And you could be GREAT...

P90X Day 2 - Plyometrics... JUMP!

Day 2 - P90X Plyometrics

That was some SERIOUS leg work!

I had forgotten how much work Plyo is. In the past 6 months or so, I had been mixing in INSANITY on my cardio days, so It's been a while since I had jumped like that. But JUMP! I did, and I loved every second of it.

As I was in the middle of soaking my basement carpet with buckets of sweat, it came to me that what separates success from failure in home-based workouts comes down to just one thing...

DISCIPLINE

As a Fitness Coach, I can tell you everything you need to do in order to be completely successful with your workout program... all the equipment you need, the space you need to work out in, the time of day that's best to work out (morning btw)... EVERYTHING.

And on your fitness journey, you can have everything at your disposal to create the environment you need to be successful. You can spend hundreds of dollars, from the dvds to the equipment and workout gear. But the one thing you need that costs you NOTHING?

DISCIPLINE

About halfway thru Plyo I realized that I could turn it off, walk away defeated and beat down, and tell everyone I did in fact finish the entire thing. Any person that uses these programs could do the same... when it gets too hard, just turn it off and walk away.

But when you get to the point in your journey where it's not a chore... where it's a CHALLENGE...? THAT is where you've turned it into ROUTINE.

If you're working on a new program, don't get discouraged if you can't do everything in the beginning. Give yourself... give your BODY... time to adapt to your new fitness regimen. But never EVER turn off the tv and stop. Pause if you have to... walk away and take a break for a minute or two... but then get back in there and FINISH STRONG.

Discipline separates the 'haves' from the 'have nots'... like the famous John Wooden quote...

"The true test of a man’s character is what he does when no one is watching."
