My first day of the Cleanse

Monday, September 13th, the first day of my cleanse! I was so excited to wake up and get my day started.

I had a glass of lemon water next to my bed to drink before I even get out of bed, the reason for doing this is because it alkalizes your body. While we sleep our bodies get acidic and we need to flush out toxins. Most of us use caffeine to do this, I don't drink caffeine so this is the healthier way!

For lunch I had a vegan, gluten free veggie burger with a salad, a little dressing and an avocado and for a snack I had a larabar. They are so good!

Now dinner i was a little nervous. I really want my kids to try what I cook. I do not want to have to cook 2 different meals. So i asked them to please just try what i make. I made a 3 bean chilli with tempeh served over Brown Rice. They loved it! I was so happy that they actually ate it. I really want them to learn how to eat healthy. Im not looking to make them vegetarians or vegans, but just to learn to eat healthy. To also learn that there are other choices other than fast food, processed foods or foods full of sugar. Especially my daughter. My daughter loves to eat and there is nothing wrong with that, as long as she makes healthy choices. That doesn't mean I'm not going to allow her to have sweets, its moderation and it's knowing that fruit and veggies can be just as good a snack as cookies, cake or salty fried chips.

She is also helping me in the kitchen and asks a lot of questions about what we are making so this will help her to learn not only what she is eating and how to make it, but why. She loves to cook!

So I am excited for day 2. I have my meals planned out, I made some homemade hummus (missy's recipe) yesterday and it's delicious! i sent my husband to work with some for his snack today! I am looking forward to my day!

My shopping trip for my cleanse

Yesterday with my list in hand from Missy of some of the foods that we should have in our house I went to Whole Foods. i spent two hours in there! Reading the labels and making sure that I got all the right things. I had fun and I was excited to try some of the foods that I bought! i even started thinking of some great recipes!

I started a little today so as to ease myself into the cleanse. Even though I am not a bad eater, the past few weeks some "bad" foods have slipped into my diet. I'm not gonna lie, I'm human. But what's funny is that I know that after I eat these foods, I really don't feel so good. I get stomachaches and headaches so I know that I am not going to totally miss them. but i am also not going to feel deprived because I know there are healthier, cleaner alternatives to everything that I like. And I look forward to the challenge of following some of the recipes that Missy has given us as well as come up with some of my own ideas. I love to cook and I am excited about learning to cook vegan. I have even been throwing around the idea of going to a school in NYC to take some professional cooking classes to learn how to cook vegan.  I keep looking at the catalog and contemplating. The only thing that holds me back is my responsibilities at home. I know...excuses, but really it has to be something that i can do and it still make sure the kids are taken care of.

Speaking of the kids, someones calling me so i have to sign off!

starting a 30 day cleanse! Cannot wait for the challenge!

In a 3 days I will begin a 30 day vegan cleanse with a nutritionist! I am so excited! About a year and a half ago after reading Skinny Bitch, I decided to change my eating habits drastically, and I did it and I felt and feel great. However in the last couple of months I have began to eat some not so "clean" foods. So when I saw this 30 day vegan cleanse on www.KarmaChow.com which is Missy Costello's website, I decided this was for me.

So for the next 30 days I am going to follow this vegan cleanse and eat exactly what Missy has put on the list. Now this is  not about depriving myself, this is about eating "clean" food and eating enough to fuel my body the right way. I am hoping that I will start to feel even better than I have, I hope to lose some of those last few pounds that have been stubornly hanging on. I hope to learn some more about different types of foods, that not only can I enjoy but I can introduce my family to also.

I am proud to say that because I have changed my eating habits that my family has been eating a lot healthier than ever, but I feel that I have only touched the surface and there is so much more to learn, and in these next 30 days I plan on trying everything on the list of clean foods and tryinig all the new recipes that Missy gives us!

So i am ready for the challenge, Bring IT! and I hope you enjoy reading about it and I hope that I will  inspire you!

Gonna start to Blog

I never understood how people had the time to sit a blog and the deisire, that is until I read how important it is to the success of weight loss and setting goals. So here I am, blogging.

I started P90X a little over a year ago. I am still going strong and I have even started to change it up a bit. In the beginning after I finished my first 90 days, I freaked out, I remember thinking, "Now what?". I was afraid to do anything else, but then I read how people where just doing another 90 days! Why was that so hard for me to figure out? So that is what I did, and I felt great. And so I have done P90X 3 full times and now I have moved onto Tony's One on Ones, which I love when i don't have a full hour!

I even started running back in April, something I never could do, but by being fit, it is now something that is actually enjoyable. Today I ran 3 miles outside. Something I have never done in my life! I was so excited!

I have learned more about food this past year than ever before. I have learned to cook with organic and healthy foods, last night I made veggie lasanga with whole wheat noodes, tomatoes, zuchini and low fat ricotta cheese with tofu mixed in. It was delicious! My kids even ate it. Made enough to have for lunch, this way I didn't have to worry about what i was going to eat.

I tend to eat healthy all day, night time is my problem time. I really have to talk myself out of the kitchen. I am sure everyone has that time of the day where they are hungrier that other times. But I am still learning, every day I learn something new about myself and how to continue on my healthy journey.
