I recently went back to the doctor and my bone is healing nicely. I managed to do 40 push-ups on my knees and 25 regular ones. I asked him if I could try pull-ups again and he has finally given me the green light! YAY... I'm a little worried about how much strength I've lost and how few I'll actually be able to do. I'm going to "do my best and forget the rest" I’ll keep you posted on how many I can do with and without the chair. Before the accident I was doing 8 pull-ups without the chair and about 40-50 with it. Not too bad for an old mom as my kids say.
I haven't exactly been sitting around doing nothing all this time... my lifestyle won't allow it. I still have to feed, groom, water and work my horses and clean my house. In lieu of lifting weights, I've been lifting 50 lb bags of feed and bales of hay. I've loaded and unloaded about 300 bales of hay in the last three weekends. Next weekend I help my daughter move....again. I try very hard to get my regular workouts in, but lately I have had very little time. I do what I can when I can and try not to beat myself up too much about it. My weight is hanging in around 108, so I'm not putting on weight, but I feel my muscles and my cardio are not where I would like them to be. It's time for me to start digging deep and pushing play more often.
I know I am not the only one that struggles with time and commitment - we all do on some level. The best part of being part of Team Beachbody is that I know there are people out there that are with me in my journey, they face the same struggles and yet we keep trying to reach our goals - to SUCCEED. Reach out to me - let's motivate each other; let's be accountable. I'm here for you and I know I can count on you too.
I had an accident and broke my collarbone. It was a nasty break too. I had surgery to have a metal plate put in to fix the break. I had no idea how much hardware he was going to put in there!!!! I have a "Terminator" collarbone now! Why didn't he just go ahead and make it a bionic arm for crying out loud! 5" of metal and 5 screws - nobody better come near me with a magnet! The airport security should be fun too. I wonder if I can pick up radio and TV stations better :P
I'm recovering pretty well though. If I hadn't already been in pretty good shape when it happened it could have been a lot worse. I regained a lot of range of motion and muscle strength quickly. I even surprised my physical therapist. It will still take several months for the bone to heal, but at least I can wash and dry my hair and put shirts on that I pull over my head. I can't ride a horse for a while though, but I still feed them and groom them daily.
My youngest daughter took pretty good care of me through the worst of it. I'm very grateful and proud of her for stepping up to take care of her old mom when I needed her.
I am missing my workouts. Right now all I can do are my physical therapy exercises. No lifting, no push ups or pull ups, no putting any weight on my shoulder at all. I had no idea how much I used my arms until I couldn't use one of them. I will never again take for granted what my body does for me on a daily basis. I will treat it well and be grateful for my health, my strength and my abilities.
I hope you are all in full swing for Spring and Summer! It will be here before we know it! Let me know if I can help you in any way.
Time seems to get away from me with the hectic schedule I have. I hope all of you are doing well in your workouts and are sticking to your regimen of fitness and healthy eating!
I have switched to a 3-4 day workout plan and continue to eat healthy and drink my Shakeology for breakfast. I have not only maintained my weight loss, but have also dropped a little more body fat by cleaning up my diet and working outside a lot with my horses. Changing what you do can also change your body when you least expect it. If you feel you are in a rut and have hit a plateau, perhaps you need to make change in your daily activities for a week or two. Add walking to your routine and if you're not drinking Shakeology - YOU SHOULD BE! I tell my friends about Shakeology - it's like a magic potion! You feel better, you're healthier and you're eating better when you drink Shakeology everyday.
I love to hear from other Beachbody nuts like myself and my team members, so send me an email and tell me how you're doing and what program you are working out to.
Well, I finished INSANITY! I’ve never felt better in my life! Don’t get me wrong, there were days when I thought the workouts would kill me, but they didn’t. Not only did I survive, but I thrived. I am now doing a P90X/INSANITY! hybrid until I get Brazil Butt Lift. Not a great name, but I’ve heard from other coaches that it is a GREAT workout. I’m really looking forward to the next challenge. I never would have believed that I could get hooked on working out and taking it to the next level over and over again – for a year straight with no end in sight. Beachbody has truly helped me change my health, my fitness and my life. I have made new friends who share this common goal and reconnected with old friends who want to join me on this journey. It’s amazing and I look forward to so much more in the years to come!
There are people that we all know who need a little push to get started. Those that don’t believe after a certain age that change is possible or that they are so far gone with poor health, nutrition and fitness that they can’t do it. I know it’s possible and there are people on my team and part of the Beachbody community that prove with hard work, focus and determination anything is possible and those goals that seem too far fetched are attainable if you want it bad enough. Do you know someone who could use your help? Are you someone who could use help reaching your goals? Never be ashamed to reach out and ask for help or give someone a hand or a boost toward making positive changes. Become and continue to be an inspiration to others. Let people know what you’re doing, whether it’s working out and/or eating healthier. I think the support you’ll find may surprise you. If you find yourself surrounded by naysayers than I encourage you to find others who will give you the support you need. We are not in this alone. We do not struggle alone. This is TEAM BEACHBODY! We do this together as a team and a family. Be inspired by others and an inspiration to those you meet and who may need to hear your story to believe that they too can achieve a healthier and richer life.
It's hard for me to believe that Christmas is here and a new year begins in a week! Time certainly seems to fly by the older I get! My oldest will be 18 on Christmas day... that makes me a little sad and yet excited for her future. I hope each of you has a wonderful holiday and bright plans for your New Year. I know it's hard to stay on the workout wagon and eat healthy during this time of year, but I want you to do the best you can - if you have off days that's okay, but remember to re-focus at the first of the year!
In 2010 we start a new decade - it's an excellent time to make new and better choices for our future. The last 10 years were gone before we knew it. How will the next 10 years be? If we don't make the right choices they will pretty much be like the last 10. I'm planning to have a much better decade this time and I hope you are too.
Choices. We make them everyday without being aware that we're even making them. You have more control over your life, your lifestyle and your health than you may think. Things happen to all of us. Opportunity mixed with difficulty. The choices you make determine your future, your health and your life. "The same wind blows on us all, it's how you set your sail that determines the outcome." How will you set your sail in the coming year? Will you make the decision to eat healthier, workout, improve your life and your lifestyle and, take notice of the people in your life and how your actions (and their actions) affect your everyday life? Surround yourself this year with people who are supportive, kind, loving and have the best intentions. Be accountable - to yourself and the people around you. Choices. We all make them everyday. My resolution for the New Year is to make better choices. What I put in my mouth, how I continue to challenge myself, what I say and do in regards to the people in my life. How I live my life. How I can and will help others reach their goals while reaching mine. My choice is to be a better person, a better mom, a better friend and a better coach.
I wish each and every one of you a wonderful Holiday season and a happy and prosperous New Year. I'm always here if you need me. A big group hug to you all! Best wishes and warmest regards, karen
