Summer 2010

Summer in Seattle was so very short!  It took until July 5th to even feel like summer, and it ended quickly right after labor day.  Somehow, I managed to get plenty of golf in all summer, although my tournament play this summer was a major dissapointement.  I felt it was going to be my breakout season for amatuer golf, instead, ended with just one event where I placed in the top 5, and all others, were rather embarrasing to say the least.

I managed to maintain my fitness quite well, despite only working out less than 30 times throughout the entire summer !  Between the golf, and hoops, I was often "resting" for the next game, or round of golf, instead of working out!  One thing that really kept my energy was SHAKEOLOGY.  I still drink it EVERY DAY, sometimes, twice a day.  The days, I managed to workout, I found that my appetite was HUGE!  Thanks to Shakeology, I managed to never lose control.  Maybe, I had ONE slice of pizza all summer, but I could never go a day with my daily Shakeology.

I could have never played as much golf (and sometimes hoops in between rounds), had I not completed both P90X and Insanity.  Insanity is still my all time favorite workout, but going back to P90X, and the weights is always a nice changeup.

Thanks to hoops, I again, sustained another injury, this time to my left thumb/wrist area.  That forced me to limit my golf and hoops, for most of September.  I still can't do a full pushup with that left hand flat on the ground, but I discovered there was no pain doing pushups if I used pushup bars!    I still have some pressure/pain at that joint area of the thumb, which really sucks, but I find a way to manage.

That's about the quick summary of my summer - time to get started on Turbo Fire, my next program starting next month!

Time for golf- Insanity, P90X continues!!

It's been a couple weeks since my completion of Insanity.  I've managed to get in another three workouts of the Insane Weights workouts.  I love this.   A little Insanity cardio, with arms, chest and shoulder workout.  Feels great to make the muscles pop again.  Lots of bicep work in this one.

Golf season is here, and finding time to workout, vs practice is already a challenge.  Gotta stay focused with at least three workouts minimum per week.  Still hoopin on Monday nights which is very, very good.  I'm NEVER short of breath, running up and down the court.  I find it truly amazing that this near-50 year old can grab a rebound, get the outlet pass going, and then run the floor, catch a pass, and finish for an easy layup!!  Of course, having great teammates make it all happen!!

The big 5-0 is only weeks away (5/28), and my first year of the second half of life is going to be great !!

INSANITY -COMPLETED !! April 15, 2010

It took a bit longer than I wanted to, but alas, finally the final workout.  Fit test finale tomorrow.

So it took nearly 80 days on the calendar.  Two trips out of town, some golf in between, hoops, and crazy work schedule, not too bad.  New pics tomorrow.

Getting ready for the Insane weights workout next, then the hybrid Insane 90X that is becoming so popular.

More later!!  Love Insanity !!

Falling behind - Insanity March 26, 2010

Well it had to happen.  Our beloved UW Huskies was cause to get sidetracked a bit the past two weeks.  They made a run to the SWEET 16 in the NCAA March Madness.  I finally caved in last week and took my sister's invite to get down to San Jose and cheer on the Dawgs for the first rounds of the tourney.

Wow, I'm so glad I did.  Not only was it the first time EVER, to be part of the great basketball season of this year's team was an experience to behold, (if you're a diehard Husky !!)  They were seeded #11 in the eastern bracket, taking on Marquette in the first game.  Quincy made the go ahead/game winning layup to beat the #5 seed from the east....let the fun begin.  The 2nd round on Saturday (3/20), we faced #3 seed New Mexico, and the game was over by halftime, with the Dawgs pounding N. Mex by 23 (or so).    Just Awesome !  We got photos with some of the players, saw other friends and family there..just a great weekend.

Managed to squeeze in ONE workout while out of town.  Of course, had to squeeze in TWO rounds of golf at MONARCH BAY in San Leandro.  My first time.  Loved the course.  Links -ish style course, on the water, GREAT views of SF bay !!  Sunshine, and short sleeves wasn't bad either !!

Since returning home, played ( and lost!!) our first round playoff game.  That was bad, as I don't feel as if I've played very well the past two games.  Was really tired the next TWO days since being home (Monday), to finally getting a full workout in just Thursday night (3.25).  That felt great.  REally needed the rest.

Unfortunately, yesterday was the first round of the SWEET 16, and the underdog, Huskies, blew their halftime lead over W. Virginia (#2 seed), and fell apart in the latter half of the 2nd half.  Uggghhh!!!  They had chances !!

It's so much fun to get behind these "kids", remember, they're only 18-22 year olds !  Wow, what a season, to embrace the imagination of going further !!

ONE MORE WEEK, six worouts, one fit test to go, as I've now stretched my 60 days into about 75.  But hey, a trip to Vegas, and to a weekend of March Madness, 10 rounds of golf, eight games of hoops...I think I did OK...

Insanity - March 10 The final push !

Thanks to our unseasonablly warm winter, golf has come to the forefront on weekends.  That's made it a little challenging to keep on pace to get all workouts in the 63 days in the program.

As of today, I'm a full week behind, (6 workouts), but considering taking a trip to Vegas in January, and many more days of golf than I'd ever expect in Februrary, that's not too bad.

The hoops have been great.  My conditioning from Insanity is very, very noticeable.  AFter 10 minutes of running the floor, I'm sweating, but not out of breath by any means, compared to the 20- somethings, that I'm playing against.  My jumping is strong throughout the whole game, and that's exciting.

The workouts in this 2nd half HAVE been challenging to get all the reps in as Shaun T barks out.  THIS ISN'T EASY.  But the rewards are well worth the DIG DEEPER efforts !

I'm waiting for the new set of pics next weekend.  My weight actually has been steady from the start, but shedding the fat, and gaining more muscle tone in the shoulders, arms, legs is a tradeoff I'd take any day .
