How Exercise Reduces Anxiety

It's no surprise that exercise makes us all feel calmer and better able to tackle stressful situations, but WHY it's so helpful wasn't clear.  Well, another anatomical mystery has been solved!   Take a look at this article in the New York Times discussing the latest research in this field.  In a nutshell, exercise creates new new cells (neurons) in the brain that are impervious to stress.  For mice, it took between 3-6 weeks of regular activity to see marked improvement.  So, start exercising today and see how much less stressed you feel by Jan. 1st!
