Wakeup Call

Today I took a class where we were able to professionally calculate our body fat percentage using the caliper method.

What a wakeup call!

According to my calculations, my body fat percentage is 42.37%!!!

I've let life get in the way of my being able to take my workouts seriously...my mind tells me that I have too many other more important "fish to fry".

However, I know that my health is important too...even more important, because without it I wouldn't be here for long!

This weekend I'm fasting...not so much for weight loss as for spiritual reasons.  So I'm not going to try to workout this weekend.

However Monday is a new day, with new goals.

Restarting

I can't believe I have had this many setbacks in my first week!

Firstly, my back has been hurting and I've been feeling exhausted.  I can't tell if it's physical or emotional.  Or a little of both.

On top of that, I had a personal disappointment this week that also threw me for a loop.

So, I'm going to give it another shot.  I'm starting again on Monday as Day 1.  If I mess up again, I'm just going to keep going forward anyway.

Looking forward to Monday...

Day 1 of Turbo Fire

Well,

I had done a run-through of the first 15 minutes of Fire 30 on Saturday, and found that it was very similar to Turbo Jam.  In fact, it seems that Turbo Fire's audience is Turbo Jammers that want to take it to the next level.

The only thing is it is FAST!  But it's fun.

My glute (butt) muscles were sore all day Sunday, which is simply a testament to how out of shape I am.

I had wanted to do the Fit Test but I couldn't bring myself to exert myself like that, knowing that I wanted to be able to make it through my workout.

So I did the Day 1 workout very late Monday night.  So late that I was concerned about jumping on my neighbor's head (I live on the 2nd floor), and waking them up.

So I did the workout barefoot and kept it low-impact.  I don't like to wear shoes in the house anyway so I am going to either need to wash my sneakers or purchase a new pair specifically so I can do Turbo Fire.

The choreography was a lot like Turbo Jam but got extra complex at one point...but I kept it moving even if I was clueless about what I was supposed to be doing.

Overall, even though I took it very easy, it seems doable.

Blogging My Progress

On Monday, I will be starting Turbo Fire.  I am hoping to blog about my progress daily to help me to stay motivated and consistent.

Today I am thinking of doing a run-through of at least one of the DVDs so I can get an idea of what I'm in for.

I've been athletic in the past but I have not been exercising regularly for almost a year.  I know I'm strong and build muscle and endurance pretty quickly, but I'm still concerned that the Turbo Fire will be tough.

I was thinking of doing the prep schedule, but when Chalene described the requirements for the full schedule, I fit all three.  I can do 30 minutes of intense aerobics three times a week, my heart is healthy, and I have strong joints.

So instead, I'm just going to do the low-impact moves and take it easy for the first couple of weeks so I don't overdo it and hurt myself or worse: give up and quit.
