To Insanity and Back

In 2009 at the Team Beachbody Coach Summit, I saw the trailer/preview for Insanity along with the before and after photos with the other Coaches and I was absolutely amazed!!  It absolutely blew my mind!!  At the time, I thought, "I want this program and I will do it!"  However, at the time, I knew that I was not "ready" for it.  I was working out to P90X, and my goal was to complete my current workout plan and eventually buy and complete Insanity.

I knew a Team Beachbody Coach in New York City that hosted a fit club that did Insanity workouts.  So I called him, asked if I could stop by one day to participate in the workout.  He said, "Absolutely!"  So I woke up early, ate breakfast, made my recovery drink, put on my heart rate monitor, got dressed, and caught the train to NYC.  I met him at a studio and several of us worked out to Insanity for the first time.  I thought that I was getting in good shape and getting stronger from P90X.  What I learned from that workout is that Insanity works your body DIFFERENTLY than P90X!  But I went to the workout and remembered what tony Horton says - BRING IT!  So, brought it…

My mind was BLOWN!  I mean ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY!!!  I was completely out of my comfort zone, my form was a mess, but I kept on going - and by the end of the workout, I had burned myself And when I mean "out", I mean that the one workout obliterated all of my calories that I had consumed and a lot more!  After the workout, I devoured my recoverey drink... but it wasn't enough!  He invited me to grab a bite at a little restaurant around the corner from the studio.  I agreed, and had something healthy and nutritous.  I wasn't fond of spicy food, so I chose something non-spicy...

But the walk back to the train station, I was zombified!  Fried!  I asked myself "how is…” and couldn’t even finish the thought.  I got home, cleaned up, had a bite to eat, and kept thinking about the workout.

Here's the interesting part - I WENT BACK THE NEXT TWO SUNDAYS!  Same food, same intense workout, same result!!  Right there I said to myself, "I am not ready for this program yet."

2010, I hosted a fit club with two other Team Beachbody Coaches.  One bring Insanity's "Plyometric Cardio Circuit" to fit club.  I workoued out at P90X level, and wiped myself out.  Again!  But this time, I felt incredible!  Exhausted, but incredible!  750calores burned!  Again, I knew that I was not ready for the program.  Oh yeah.  Something else to note - I wore a size 34 jeans at the time.  So I needed some personal motivation, and bought a pair of 32 jeans and hung it on my door.  People said, "You won't fit into those, take 'em back!"  Personally, those jeans were my visual motivation to keep on going. :)

2011, I was "Sidelined" (got a blog post about that here).  During that time, I had a plan in mind both for keeping my mind active and for when I began exercising again.  I knew that I would eventually do Insanity.  I started it December 11th.  But, since I wasn’t consistent and with the workouts, I thought “I have to do this right.”  On December 25, 2011 (yes, Christmas Day).  I bit the bullet and took my measurements, photos, and fit test #1.  I was excited because, "I got through it!"  And I stuck to the program... for about 2 1/2 weeks.  I mean it was challenging, really challenging!  And I worked out with the same intensity that I did P90X.  WOW!  The difficult part is (since I moved back to my folks), I worked out in the basement and the ceilings are only 8 feet high.  I couldn't jump very high, otherwise the ceiling tiles would emit dust.  So instead of raising my arms when I jumped, I lowered them.

2012, I visited Canada for 4 days, but didn't bring my workouts.  I just enjoyed the trip, with the mindset of "I'll get back to it when I get home” and I did.  Little did I know that there were sidetracks at home that not only challenged my time but my energy level.  But I wasn't going to quit and I wasn't going to start over again.  Not now.

I decided that when I worked out again, I’d pick up exactly where I left off.  After the recovery week and I began the MAX workouts, I was burning myself out even more.  I was like "not again".  Form was bad, nutrition was bad, not enough sleep… I thought “STOP!!”  So I took a step back.  I had to!  I re-evalued my nutrition, and increased my calorie intake with HEALTHY and NUTRITIOUS calories!  This had to be the smartest decision I ever made!!!  I was absolutely out of my comfort zone but in my nutrition AND my workouts!  I was consuming about 3000 calories a day, and I was freaking out thinking “I’m gonna gain weight, OMG!”

Then something happened.  Not a setback or an injury.  Something in my mind said, “trust the process and don’t quit”.  I was determined to complete the program!  However, I wasn't going to let my form suffer.  I remember something ShaunT said in Insanity, "Form over speed!"  THAT resonated with me because I had decided that - instead of burning myself out with Insanity, I will focus on proper form – and as a result of doing that MY CALORIE BURN INCREASED!!!  Not only that, I started seeing definition on my body!  EVERYWHERE!  My face was leaner, my triceps were defined, my calves POPPED!  And my abs were getting lean AND defined!

One morning after getting cleaned up and getting dressed (just in jeans) I caught a side glimpse of my profile in my mirror and didn’t recognize it!  I said, "Who the hell is…. OMG!"  I was AMAZED at my OWN body!  (Don't get me wrong, I'm not this way, but I couldn't get over it!)  At that moment, I thought "That's it!  Hell no!!!  No giving up!"  And I saw it through the rest of Insanity!

You know, I may not have completed the program in exactly 63 days.  But here's the thing - I DID COMPLETE IT!!!

I took final measurements and photos, and submitted them to Beachbody Success Stories.  Two days later, I received a confirmation email saying, "We received your success story.  Congratulations on completing Insanity.  Your Insanity shirt will be mailed out to you!"  The following day I recevied an email from Beachbody with a tracking number.

The day I received the box with the Insanity shirt, I took it out of the box and stared at it thinking "this is something I earned, I didn't BUY it!"  I grabbed my camera, put it on and just started snapping photos.  I loved it!!  I posted it on different social media sites, and also made it my Team Beachbody profile photo.  Plus, I also made my final photo for Insanity my "after" photo.

I gotta tell ya, after completing Insanity I can truly say that if you stick with the program and do the best that you can - you will achieve results!  And you know what, that goes for EVERY Beachbody program!

POST-INSANITY

After I took my "after photos", I went to my room and took down that pair of 32 jeans.  When I tried them on and they were LOOSE around the waist!  My jaw dropped, but I loved it!!!  My only thought was, "OMG OMG OMG!"  I haven't worn a pair size 32 jeans since 1989!  I reflected on my fitness journey since 2007 when I started working out to only Beachbody products and felt really proud on how far that I've come.  Now I have so much more confidence and hope on what I will achieve!  THAT has made this journey so worthwhile!!!!

Slim In 6

I never gave a complete chance in 2007.  I regretted it then.  I knew that one day I would go for it and do it properly.  October 2011 was that opportunity.  After recovering from my injuries, I KNEW that Slim In 6 would be the first stepping stone on my way to whatever I choose to do next.  A stepping stone, per say.  Slim In 6 was challenging, especially the exercises working your core and back.  Those exercises are where I struggled the most in the beginning because I never really "worked" those areas hard enough.  I gave up.  This time, I pushed through.  But by the last workout, I really LOVED those exercises.  The reason why I loved them is because my waist and hips SHRUNK from doing them!  The day after I completed Slim In 6, I couldn't WAIT to take after photos and take measurements.  The AFTER photo is on my profile.  My weight remained the same, my biceps increased a little, my waist is smaller, my hips are smaller.  There's more definition in my triceps and forearms - and I love it!  Here's the best part of all - I lost 10% bodyfat!  I wanted more!!  The day after I completed Slim In 6, I began Slim Series Express.  A new challenge, a new change.
Back At It

After taking several weeks to recover, it was worth it!  When I visited my docotro again, he gave me the green light to exercise.  On October 9, 2011 - I began Slim In 6.  I'm ading a little extra weight lifting and ab work as well.  Right now, I'm beginning week 4.  I'm excited to see what happens by the end of week 6!!!

Sidelined

I may be sidelined (or as doctors said "not able to exercise") for now.  I was in an accident, and I'm healing internal injuries.  The RN at the hospital said, "The yoga and weight lifting that you've done is what has saved your life".  Even though I'm not able to push play every day to a workout program, I have two legs and I can take a brief walk - even if it's to the end of the driveway and back, or around the circle by the house.  It's something.  I'm moving.  It's something!  Its a beginning.

Once I get the medical clearance from doctors, and once I've healed these internal injuries, I'm taking a step back and using a different program.  I'm thinking about doing Slim In 6 and Total Body Solution.

They say, "time heals all wounds".  I have time.  Until then, I have books to read to fill my mind, as well as a short walk down the driveway.

336 Days

The title describes exactly how long this workout program is.  Ok, it's not only one workout programs.  It's multiple programs.  Seven programs in all.  Nine if you count the two programs that repeat.  Hip Hop Abs, ShaunT's Dance Party Series, Rockin' Body, Rockin' Body Rockin' Results, Hip Hop Abs Level 2 Ultimate Results, Rev Abs, Rev Abs Full Throttle, Brazil Butt Lift, Brazil Butt Lift Deluxe.  This is a hybrid.  Rev Abs will be the primary program, and I'm mixing in ShaunT's workouts every other day.  For instance, days 1, 3, 5 are Rev Abs and days 2, 4, 6 are Hip Hop Abs and day 7 is a rest day.

Initially, I planned on doing this as doubles.  Hip Hop Abs in the morning and Rev Abs at night.  But due to a scheduling issue (I have to be up very early for something and won't be able to workout), I will be doing one program at night.

I took the schedules from each program and just mixed/matched it.

This is the first hybrid that I'm doing, but it's not exactly a hybrid because I'm doing two programs simulatenously.

To give you an idea of what the week looks like:
day 1 - Hip Hop Abs, day 1
day 2 - Rev Abs, day 1
day 3 - Hip Hop Abs, day 2
day 4 - Rev Abs, day 2
day 5 - Hip Hop Abs, day 3
day 6 - Rev Abs, day 3
day 7 - REST
THIS is why it's taking 336 days to complete the schedules - because I am mixing/matching two programs at the same time.

Essentially, I'll be working out one hour a day, and I will not be overdoing it.  My nutrition is spot on as well as my hydrtation.  I will be taking measurements and photos every 30 days to remain consistent and in check with this hybrid (or so called hybrid).

I officially began this on July 31, 2010.  This will complete on July 1, 2011.  As time progresses, I will post more information.  So keep watching!
