Inspired by my BUDDIES!

I was so excited to so many of my buddies when I logged into WOWY today!  We all have days that we struggle though a workout and today was one of them for me.  As I considered calling it quits (very unusual for me, but there it is) I just focused on the fact that I wasn't doing this alone and pretnded that all of those friends (who live MILES away from me) were in the room with me.  It wasn't pretty, but I made it to the end and finished strong!

What inspires you to do what you do?

Mostly Borrowed Holiday Tips....

  1. Start your day by pushing play:  No matter how many guests you have coming for dinner or how much you have left to do, make time to start your day with exercise.  If you really are short on time, consider a shorter, but more intense workout like HITT 15 from Turbo Fire, Pure Cardio from Insanity, or any of the 10 Minute Trainers.
  2. Don't deny yourself:  Some do well by swearing off "forbidden" foods, but for many of us that notion only leads to bingeing or a feeling of deprivation. Remember that the occasional splurge is what diet experts call ?moderation?. Go ahead?treat yourself! You deserve it! Remember, a splurge should last a meal or a day at the most. By eating poorly for several days, you set yourself up for a season of weight gain. Plan for and enjoy your favorites then get back on track to your journey of healthy living.
  3. Drink water:  This rule applies regardless of the day of the year. Water consumption decreases cravings and helps to regulate hunger. Be sure to consume water after your workouts as well.  Avoid calorie-laden beverages like alcohol, eggnog, peppermint lattes, and hot chocolate. One cocktail is fine. But keep in mind, alcohol usually makes you less attractive, less articulate, less responsible, and more likely to overeat. Cheers!
  4. Don't skip Shakeology:  Because it provides your body with incredibly dense nutrition, it will help you avoid cravings and the spikes and valleys that come with the high sugar and simple carb offerings we all love to hate.... or hate to love.  I plan to have mine about an hour before the meals that will tempt me most to over-indulge.
  5. Don't keep leftovers:  Some of you, including my mother and sister-in-law are gasping!  If you?re hosting the festivities, add disposable containers to your shopping list so you can send guests home with ALL of your leftovers.  If you find yourself on the receiving end of a half eaten pecan pie, or a neighborly plate of cookies, graciously accept, enjoy a nibble and then.... toss it. Now Aaron is gasping!  Which would give you greater long-term happiness, more pie or to fit into your skinny jeans?
  6. Give yourself permission to take care of yourself:  If you are hosting, have fun with family food traditions, but make sure you have healthy alternatives.  Our family loves summer sausage with cheese and crackers during the holidays.  My contribution to that meal will be shrimp cocktail and a layered cheese spread made with fat-free cream cheese, spinach & roasted red peppers.  If you are the guest, ask how you can contribute to the meal and bring something you know you'll feel good about eating
Take it Up a Notch! BAM!!

So, I just finished my workout for today:  CHALEAN Extreme:  Burn It Off & Recharge.  Burn It Off is a challenging workout, but as my fitness has progressed, I find that I need to push myself a little more.  If you are feeling the same way here are some suggestions:

  • Increase your intensity by going lower and jumping higher
  • Pick up the pace by doing more reps in the same amount of time.

Never in my life, did I think I would be doing this.... makig fitness a lifestyle.  As I have challenged myself to try just about every program Beachbody has to offer, I haven't liked all of them, BUT I HAVE LEARNED something new from every single trainer!  When I'm working out to CHALEAN Extreme or Turbo Jam, I hear Tony Horton and Shaun T's voices in my head.  When I am working out to P90X or the Power 90 Masters Series I hear Chalene Johnson's voice, and so on :)

Thank you Beachbody for helping me live a healthy and fulfilling life!

Shakeology 3 Day Jump Start (clenase) and Observations

I need to Blog more often!

I decided last week to try the Shakeology 3 Day Jump Start because the pace of life had lead me to poorer eating habits.  I just wasn't feeling as good as I knew I could.  I also knew I needed to be as prepared as possible to hang out with all of my buddies at the Beachbody Leadership Conference, so dove right in.

I did weigh and measure the day I started, but dropped the ball the morning after day 3 (last Friday) because of my early travel plans.  So, I'm home from a crazy fun weekend and here's what I have noticed:

  • My energy level is highter than it ever is after a big weekend
  • My cravings for "bad for you food" are GONE!!
  • My digestive system was not severely impacted/impaired by travel
  • I am NOT bloated like I normally would be after a weekend of travel

For me, these are HUGE results!!  Thanks you Beachbody for safe, effective, YUMMY nutritional products that continute to improve my health and the health of my family!

PS - I hope to write a little each day this week to pass along some of the new, exciting thigngs happening in the Beachbody community!

Days 2 & 3

Have you ever set out to do something with the perfect plan and then been thrown a curve ball that threw everything off balance?  Well, it happened to me this week!  In the last 3 days, my son locked my keys in my car while it was running, my husband (who is out of town) took my portable DVD player that I use for my workouts with him, I have a terrible cold and Riley forgot to take his lunch to school.  Even though these are small inconveniences, they all required extra time and energy for me to find solutions.  And yet, I still managed to get my workouts in and stick to my healthy meal plan!  The ONLY reason I've been able  to do this is because I've made myself accountable to a group of people who are also committed to 90 days of exercise and clean eating.  I BELIEVE ACCOUNTABILITY IS KEY TO SUCCESS IN EVERY AREA OF LIFE!  This is something I have had to learn and accept - usually through failure.  In order for someone to hold me accountable, I have to be willing to BE accountable and give that person permission to do so.  These are not easy things for me to do.  So, if you are a part of my FB 90 Day Fit Challenge, THANK YOU for being my accountability partner!  I need you more than you know!

Meal Plan Update:

Yesterday

Breakfast:  Wraps with Scrabled Eggs, Chicken, Spinach and Mozzarella - Big hit with the kids

Lunch:  Tuna Salad on a Bed of Romaine and Tomatoes - not new at our house

Dinner:  Chicken Burschetta & Green Beans - I turned the Bruschetta (tomatoes, garlic, basil and olive oil) into a sauce and doubled it so I can use what's reserved in omeletts tomorrow morning.

Today

Breakfast:  Kashi GoLean cereal with berries and skim milk - a no brainer that I was glad to have planned because I overslept!

Lunch:  Was supposed to be Egg Salad Wraps, but there wasn't time so I sent the lunch planned for Friday (Whole Wheat Wraps w/ Peanut Butter and Banana) in the kids lunches and Rianna and I had leftovers. I'll do the Egg Salad ahead tomorrow, because I know Friday is going to be a busy day.

Dinner:  Tomato Topped Salmon with Sauteed Kale - YUM!  To my surprise the big kids LOVED the kale.  I'll admit, I over salted it a bit because I was concerned, so next time not so much.  Riley enjoyed the Salmon, but the girls weren't crazy about it.  Renae ate hers because I promised her a peice of dark chocolate if she finished.  Rianna (3 yrs. old) is still learning.

Redling's Meal Time Rule:  Mom only cooks the same meal for everyone.  You can choose to enjoy it or wait until the next meal is available :)
