End of the Year Update

I just realized that I haven't written anything in awhile. I've been on an itty bitty break from long distance running after running 2 half marathons, 2 marathons and numerous other races from Sept 26-Nov 20. I'll be back it at next Sunday when I attempt my first 50K. It's not an official race so it's not a real ultra, but I'm still looking forward to it. I don't know if I'll complete it since I haven't been doing any longs runs, but we'll see.

In October, I ran my first trail marathon and came in first female overall! I ran my third marathon at the Outer Banks Marathon on Nov. 14th. I got a PR of 3:25:31, but I was a little disappointed in how I did. I'm hoping to really improve that time at the Boston Marathon in April 2011. I was first female in the last two races I ran, one a 10-mile trail race and the other a local 5K. My next real race is another 10-mile trail race in mid-January, followed by an 8-mile trail race in February.

I'm looking at one more half marathon before the Boston Marathon, and then we're moving up to New Hampshire.

Body Composition Analyzer and Races

Just used a Body Composition Analyzer for the first time yesterday. So cool! I realized that I've been doing my BMI wrong all along so I have to go and update all my stats. I feel pretty good after using that, since I'm on the low range for fat mass and BMI.

On the running front, I've had a super busy schedule for the past couple of months. It's about to wind down, though, for the summer. I ran my first marathon in March and was super excited to come in under my goal with a time of 3:28:15. I qualified for Boston, so that will be my plan for next April. I recently ran two trail races, one a 12-miler and the other a 15K. I was first female finisher in both. I ran a local 10K 3 weeks ago. I finished 3rd female overall with my PR of 42:22. I'm stlll hoping to get below 42 minutes on my 10K. This weekend is a trail half marathon and then June 11th is the Army Birthday 10-miler here on Fort Bragg. My goal is 70 minutes or faster, but we'll see. After that, I have a long break from races until September.... I think, or so I told my husband. Something could come up that I might want to run, but I don't know of anything yet. It's just too hot here in the summer, so any road racing would just be brutal.

About Me

I'm 34 years old, married to Bryan, who is in the US Army. I'm a fitness freak, currently training for a marathon while doing another round of Chalean Extreme with a bit of Insanity thrown in there. I love to work out. I live for it. I want to be healthy for my 4 year old son, John. Sometimes, I have more energy than him so that I wear him out. Ha ha.

I started P90X in August 2008 after getting discouraged with the gym. It was the best thing I've ever done fitness-wise. From there, I got Chalean Extreme which I adore. Of course, Insanity was to follow. I can't get enough of it. I'd love to see 50 million new Insanity videos because I love it so much.

After my marathon in March 2010, I have some long trail runs planned up until my husband deploys again. After that, I plan to continue Chalean Extreme and Insanity and probably rejoin the gym to start spinning classes again. That's the only thing I really did at the gym when I was still a member, and I miss it. Running long distances will have to put on hold for about a year.

I gave the Coach bit a try, but had no luck so I gave that up. I'm always recommending Beachbody products to people. I got my sister to buy Slim in 6 and a friend to buy Insanity so you think I'd make a good Coach, but I wasn't. LOL. Maybe I'll give it a go another time.

Although I love working out, my true passion is hiking. My husband and I have both hiked the Appalachian Trail twice and the Pacific Crest Trail. Our goal is to some day walk the Continental Divide Trail, and hopefully, the Appalachian Trail and Pacific Crest Trail again all with our son. It will be some years yet, but it's something I dream about.
