Personal Challenge for the month of December

Goal : Walk at least 1/2 mile daily on the treadmill.

I am half way through this challenge and so far I have missed 7 days on the treadmill.  Two of them were because I had physical theraphy on that day and did VMO exercises for an hour. Couldn't really do the treadmill after that. That other days were missed due to shoveling snow . I probably could have walked some, but to be honest, I just didn't fell like I could do it with the proper form, ie keeping my toes pointed forward and not to the side (because fo the VMO weakness).

I have, however, put in at least 1/2 mileson the days I have been on the treadmill.

I have discovered that walking at night, about 20 minutes before I go to bed, helps me sleep better and have a better morning.

My first 5K

As some of you may know, (because I have been talking about it non stop), today was the day of my first 5K. It was a fund raiser for Southern Colorado food banks. It was cancelled due to the weather, which really bummed me out. (We can request a refund,... but I don’t know what kind of person would.) I originally thought that I should just go home and do it on the treadmill, but decided to do it on the track on post.
My husband asked me if I really wanted to do it since it was icy, windy and flurrying. I told him it really wasn’t about the “official race” it was a personal challenge and I was going to see it through. “That’s my girl.“ My husband stayed in the car with the boys and I did my thing. He kept track of my laps and took pictures. I finished the 3.2 miles in 59:53:13, which was under the 60 minute time frame I had set.
I thought I deserved a treat and he agreed. He bought me a challenge coin and “We are Marshall”, the widescreen version, on DVD.

I have been preparing for this for since August 28th . I stated out on a 2200 calorie per day eating plan, but discovered that that was too much for the goals I had set. I moved it to 1500 and then to 1200. The 1200 one worked out much better for me.... I also tried to walk every day, but that didn’t happen. In fact, I missed about 22 days of that. When I was able to walk, I did at least a mile. I will be started back up the P90X on Monday and keep up the eating plan. I plan on entering more races and my new goal is to run the 5K next year. I just didn’t have enough time to get the lungs ready this time.

Now for the numbers…..
I lost 8.6 pounds, 7% body fat and 18 ½ inches. I gained 5 pounds of lean body mass, which I think is muscle.
